Nice job!! Any advice for getting the hi hat part up to speed? Refferring to one of your earlier comments, Vinnie mentions that the time signature is 5/4 in an interview from Modern Drummer Oct. '93. You can find the interview on his web site. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the compliment. I too really enjoy this tune. I decided that I had to figure out what Vinnie was doing at the end of the tune. It is seldom that you hear interesting drum parts on pop tunes. I respect Sting for encouraging Vinnie to express him self on that track.

You should really check out Russ Miller's album an DVD "Arrival" if you love great pop drumming. Manu Katche's album "It's About Time" is one of my favorites!

BTW - it sounds like they layered in 16th notes on the snare played with brushes about 2 minutes in - then it comes and goes a few times during the verses.

Great job, extremely relaxed which impresses me. Just wondering, what I'm hearing is not live is it? I heard the snare at 3:44 where you are turning the page. Still I've watched this many times. If I'm correct you are playing a steady pulse of 4 notes, accents on 1 3 5 then 2 and 4 of second measure of 5. This gives interest feel and was a challenge to learn, but cool.

its a peace maple kit.. the black things are tom mounts.. they attach to the lugs and serve as a way to mount the toms.. rather than drilling into the shell of the drum as yamaha and other companies do

I think it depends on how much time you are willing to put into it. It also depends on what level you are looking to play. If you play guitar, it may not take long to get to a level where you can play bar gigs. Also, you should try to get a good teacher. Try to find someone who is honest and encouraging. Good luck. I did the transcription. I originaly wanted to have modern drummer publish it. However, I'm now thinking of putting together a book of transcriptions. I've been working hard on it. i've finished transcriptions of Vinnie, Benny Greb, Pery Price, Danny Cary, etc. I'm trying to have it finished by next Summer.

The editor for MD said that he would like to. however, they just featured Vinnie in the March issue (you should pick it up. It is great). Anyway, the editor said he wanted to wait a few months before publishing another Vinnie transcription. I'll email him tomorrow to see if they are ready. If they aren't ready for it, I'll start emailing it around.
