How bad ass were the Animals, just look around Youtube...... man, it is near 50 years ago and the Animals still rock with the best, just think about that.
The only one to ever even come close to doing Eric Burdon was David Johanssen. He did the Animals medley on his live album, and did Eric proud. He's probably the only guy that can scream "DON'T PUSH ME!" like Eric. The Animals were truly bad-asses, and I listen to them today, as I will tomorrow. Hell, you can see the reverberations today, as Dave Grohl screams a verse in "Monkeywrench."
I'm a long-time fan of Eric Burden and the Animals. I just found this video posting of "I'm Crying" and it is incredibly good! Outstanding sound quality and great video!! Kudos for posting it.!! One of the 1st albums I purchased was in 1966, "The Animals Greatest Hits"on MGM.. It had "I'm Crying" and "I'm Mad" on the album, as well as House..., It's My Life; etc. Excellent!!
Man, this is off the charts good and really shows what an unbelievable, energetic band the Animals were. Eric Burden Rules. Top 5 rock singer of all time up there with Jim Morrison.
I've watched a lot of Animals vids on Youtube- this has to be one of the best. Sounds live, group really into it, good technical quality. Animals body of work is really in top tier of sixties British groups. Hard to beat. Thanks.
I'm getting to be more and more of an Eric Burdon fan. It's a fine line between Van Morrison and Eric Burdon. EB tried to make the big change with WAR and it worked but got stuck for arguable reasons while Van kept going. He's one of the most underated singers of all time. So many of the Animals songs are true athems.
@SuperBuzz71 Heard them both live, love them both - I am glad I do not have to chose and prefer one of them. They both like to improvise, Van is jazzier. I hope they will keep on going for a long time!
It astounds me now -- when I was a kid I didn't know from nothin', but this is one of the best, smokiest, jaded old man's blues voices that ever existed, coming out of that little bad-boy hobbit from Newcastle. (He's a hobbit -- check the ears. They still look like that.) He just ran it through himself like an electric current.
met the drummer John Steele (if can I remember the correctly) n the guitarist something Valentine (vaguely remember his name).. that was like 15 yrs ago.. sadly Chas Chandler weren't there..
Holy Cr...ud! I have the studio version of this song on a Greatest Hits CD. Didin't know there existed a live version! Thanks for posting this! What an awesome powerful performance.
Amazing. Singing with his thighs. I had a very bad case of it for him back then -- must have been all of 13. Lord knows mama wasn't telling any facts of life -- had to get it somewhere.
Yeah! White trash on choppers circa 1965! Shades of an AIP motorcycle flick! Why does this song remind me of a very young Ann-Margaret Olson or viewing some Hells Angels pics (shot in 1965 by Bill Ray for Life magazine)? This tune still gets it!
@53Valparaiso Burdon was really great but there were others just as good in their own right. Nobody had better moves and stage presence than Mick Jagger. No need to put anyone above the others.
after watching their other performances and the awkward walking video for house of rising sun, i can hear the record executives saying "hey, you guys need to move around more on stage" then they did this. that dance eric is doing is classic.
''Hail to the MIGHTY Eric Burden and The Animals'' I have been a fan for thirty years, seen it all, heard it all, done it all, and it goes like this; #1, The Animals # 2, who cares?........
The Animals' national television debut on the Ed Sullivan Show on October 10, 1964. They just rocked the place. Unfortunately their "House of the Rising Sun" was preempted in the second half hour by an address from President Lyndon Johnson, politicking for every vote with his election just three weeks away. And then he brought us the Vietnam War for the following eight years.
Smokin! These guys would blow Lady Gaga or that little twit Justin Beiber off the stage.... of course ANY band out the British Invasion could do that - DC Five, Kinks, Them, Beatles, The Zombies, The Who, The Rolling Stones, just to name a few.
Finally, a live performance of the fabulous Animals. Youtube is full of poor quality badly lip synched rubbish, and this track demonstrates the powerhouse that the Animals were.
Eric Burdon what a voice, and the Animals what a band, there might have been the Beatles, but there was the Animals too, and a great live version of i'm crying, electric performance.
