hey man keep the good work cnet and who ever you are the guy that dus this show keep up the good work. ya. well i just bot a tl sh-awd adv pac and i tests drove the ford turos sho its all right but hevey fealing, chrysler 300c awd its so so, lexas es 300 that car was nice but way to under powered, bmw 335ix its prity fun to drive but to many options to chose from, mercades-benz 350c that was all right but smooth ride. i prity much test drove and resecht all the cars out ther. love the acura tl
it beats the g37 coupe in the 0-60 and slalom tests and ties in braking but falls short in 1/4 mile only by 0.1 seconds. That's pretty impressive considering you get more room, 2 extra doors, better interior and better reliability.
Sure they do. They just aren't making new ones. Does have that metal thing in the back like Saturns. But who cares, I like this better and bought it. Great freakin' car.
And all these people talking about safety features like "blind spot warnings" "adaptive cruise control" etc...if its your day to crash and possibly die - its your day. People need to focus and the most important safety feature - YOUR BRAIN AND COMMON SENSE.
Just bought this car in white after trading in my 06 TL. I rate it a 9.9 out of 10. Why not 10? I loved the uncluttered/clean dashboard look of the previous generation. The dashboard on this thing has TONS of buttons (most of which are really useless to most ppl). The only significant changes on the dash since the last generation is a faster cpu and more memory for the gps/radio...so what's up with the tons of buttons Acura :(
don't worry, lane departure, adaptive cruise control, blind detection will all be coming eventually, Honda/Acura has had that for years in Europe and Japan, it just takes them a little longer for them to bring it to the states!!!
I meant to say, I love all of the saftey features in the SHO like the Adaptive Crusie Control, Blind Spot Warnings and they have a better backup camera system where it beeps when something is behind the car but I love the tech system in the TL and the look of the design. That is what I meant to say.
yeah this car won't be getting a refresh until about 2012. And i love both cars too, but the tl is a true performance luxury sedan in comparison to the sho, plus the tl does in fact handle better.
I can't understand why so many people deem this car ugly! The minute I saw it in the showroom, I was in love with the car. I happen to love this design and hope to make a decision soon before next year when Acura may change the design again. I have been going back and forth between the top of the line TL and the Ford SHO top of the line. They both cost 45,000 when all of the options are added. I love the safety features on the SHO but I love the tech system in the SHO and the look of the design.
I would go with the Taurus SHO, but they are not going to change the design for a while. If Acura is like most other auto makers, they change the design every five years and usually do a refresh for the third year.
I like it, but somehow I'm not convinced to buy it instead of keeping my 2004 TL.
It's no quicker than last year's Type-S, not that much roomier but much larger and heavier, and five speeds for 40 grand is iffy at best. I could overlook that if it had serious power, but it doesn't.
It seems like beneath the technology and styling it is kind of dated or something. Maybe it's just me. Very nice car, though, no doubt.
Although the substantially upgraded navi is superior to previous navi units provided by Honda/Acura, the old units weren't "crusty" as they have always been at the top of their classes.
As far as styling....its a mixed bag. I love the new wide commanding stance and road presence but the TL's overall proportions (mainly the front overhang) and front/rear styling are major turnoffs as they don't seem well integrated. With a little work this car could be a looker.
The styling is a result of Honda's trying to accomplish several safety standards at once. The nose could be lower, the grille could be different, and the overhang could be a little shorter.
But if they did that, they'd be compromising the Safety for Everone protocol, reducing the car's 5-star-plus safety rating and impacting the new pedestrian safety standards.
Yes, I'm aware of the "safety for everyone" standardsHonda and Acura have implemented in their cars and I'm aware that Acura has been named the safest luxury auto manufacturer on the planet. The ACE system has a lot to do with that. On the contrary, even with the ACE system integrated in the TL I still think Acura could improve on its design while keeping the same safety standards in place.
Personally, I love the grill of this new TL. Unlike some cars that look like other cars (e.g. Hyundai Genesis sedan, 2010 MB E-Class's back, etc.), this car doesn't remind me of any other car but the older generation TL. People say some of the technical gadgets in this car are copied from other cars. Give me a BREAK!! Honda copying from other cars? That is funny. Because I am quite sure a lot of automakers bust their bubbles when they get a feel for the competition directed by Honda.
i have a TL and love it. they are just amazing cars and they cant be beat for pricing. the only step up would be buying a mercedes, but who has another 30 grand to put into a car with that same features as the TL
trust me when I say MERCEDES is not better haha, well maybe those 80-100k models, but the regular ones are CRAP, my dad has an 08 ml320, my sister 06 C280, my 01' TL-P drives better and if not for the stabilizer bar rubber pieces missing it'd be just as smooth.
I would not. Touch screen is new to me. And it is still missing from 85% of cars on the road in the world today. I do not know about limited res, or problem with scratches or messy screens overloaded with buttons? Voice command is excellent. A touch screen along with that will do fine. And a knob for those who do not want to use touch screen. I would like to see quicker responsing touch screen systems in the future however. I dont think it would be difficult. It will come soon.
Why not touch screen system also? It is better. For those who dont like touch screen or those who dont like to use the knob. I personally like the screen out there, although the slightly hidden screen also looks good. But too deep is not appealing. Acura should improve on the feel of the Navi knob, making it more rigid. This TL generation is larger than the previous. It has a few more technology and I think an optional AWD. Acura makes efficient engines, gaining most out of little.
If it's like the Accords, one of the advantages to switching off of the touch screen was being less compelled to not allow you to use the navi at all while driving. It should still let you. One of the few cars that still does, I believe. Funny, because it has the best coverage of voice recognition out there as well, so it's almost not necessary.
many automakers are phasing out touch screen (considered an "old" technology) due to limited res, problem of scratches, and messy screen overloaded with buttons. with acura's system, you don't really have to use the knob, voice command gets the job done much faster!
Touch Screen is much easier to use. The Knob however lessens the grease on screen. But I'd take Touch Screen over Knob Control. That's why I say build both. Why can't we have the best of both worlds??
idk bout the commercial, but theres a rim package thats black and white which looks awesome, and along with the standard acura body kit some dealerships will pain the grill the color of the car which makes it look alot less hideous
I 've seen every single one of Brian Cooley's car reviews. I think he likes two car brands: Audi as his primary choice & acura next.

I actually did test drive it, twice.
It handles superbly but I can't overlook other large sedans for the price like the G8 GXP or Genesis 4.6, even the new SHO.

Acura messed the exterior design for sure.
Also lane detection system, blind spot detection should be put in to this car like some of its competitors have (A4 or Lexus).
