I wasn't a crew chief or sheetmetal, so I couldn't answer that. I don't even think a visual would have caught that and only NDI would catch the damage? I was stationed at Langley for 5 years and have been at a depot for the last 7.
well when you plane falls apart around you it's pretty fortunate to escape just like that... that was hardly an optimal ejection condition with your cockpit spinning around like that.
Kinda looks like some of the F-15's are at the end of their service lives (stating the obvious). I'm guessing these are the F-15A's, and some C's that are remanufactured A'S.

Phase fucked up on that
crewdogg15 2 years ago
@crewdogg15
Nope. This was in a area that a typical phase crew would not inspect. Try again.

I Know, I worked phase for 3 years. Not carded but haven't you ever failed for non carded items?

If you pull enough g with very high speed that would happen to any aircraft.

Bad manufacturing on Boeing's part.
And they still whine they didn't get the KC-45 contract.
bah
angelcar22 3 years ago
not bad manufacturing,,, the aircraft is old,,,
chaingang90 3 years ago
no, it was a bad manufacturing practice that lead the longerons to fatigue before their designed life expectancy.
look it up

um..... this is a fake simulation lol.

Um... it's a S I M U L A T I O N
By definition it is "fake," as in not real footage. Nevertheless, it's a CG representation of what happened to the airplane.
angelcar22 3 years ago 6
I'm almost certain the F-15s are already past there design life.
arnaage 3 years ago
They're not
That was the problem precisely. Due to the incorrect manufacturing the longerons in question here didn't last as long as they were designed to last.
angelcar22 3 years ago
happened last year and all the f-15s in the af were grounded
refused215 4 years ago 4
Still grounded aren't they? :(
Well, at least the other variants like the Strike Eagle are still OK.
