They also use Sinky butter in glass bottles and climb aboard moving vessels, and the captain claimed he was shot but there's almost no proof of that. I don't like whaling very much but i sure as hell don't like the Sea Shepherds.
×Australian ○AustKorean This incident made me find AustKorean being also lacking in common decency such as Korean! And there seems to be some AustKorean in Europe! lol Hey AustKorean! GET ANGRY!!! GET MAD SUCH AS KOREAN!!! We can defeat you easily!!! Actually we Japanese tend to respect others Actually we Japanese tend to be adraid of others. But we DON'T BE AFRAID of those who are like Korean at all!!! COME ON!!! lol lol lol 来いよオラ!!!!
The 56-year-old Eastham native is a television producer, cinematographer and cameraman who was the first mate on the Sea Shepherd vessel MV Steve Irwin in January, when two of its crewmen boarded a Japanese whaling vessel without permission and were held on the ship for two days.
It only became a "hostage" situation, Brown admits, when he turned the Steve Irwin around and left the scene so the Japanese would be forced to hold the two crewmen longer.
@SXJULIE Why!?...Whales are very intelligent mammals; even more intelligent than we previously thought. They have a sophisticated communication system (which in the marine environment is far better than our hi tech), they are caring parents, they display emotions. They would be our near equals if they had arms/hands to manipulate thier environment. NASA has studied thier language prepatory to any succes by SETI.
Killing a whale is the same as killing a person and should incur the same penalty.
the whalers are just fisherman trying to make a living and providing food leave them alone, however they should be punished for fishing illegal waters thats it
How can they say they were taken hostage. They when on the ship freely cheering as they did it then they call the press and say they were kidnapped. Its good that they try to protect the whales but to say they were take hostage is just bullshit.
Research? Right. Who do you think actually believes that. Japan, Norway and Iceland are all conducting whale massacres against the laws of the IWC. How barbaric can Japan be. If it's not enough to harpoon whales and let them suffer for an hour, let's watch them bludgeon and spear schools of dophins for meat as well. Where is their humanity?
Perhaps, in due course, it will become prohibitively expensive for whale murderers to buy property insurance for their ships and other capital equipment and facilities.
You are a liar, you say you conduct research yet you kill endagered animals and sell their meats! You are dishonorable, false and a liar! Japan will be responsible in the future for wiping out life and destroying our oceans!
Whatever. I know that in my mind, this is righteous. So you say I'm without honor? I don't care if you say I don't have honor. Well the U.S. still whales, so does Iceland. This is racism.
Exctingting entire species and calling it "research" in great bold letters? That is both a lie and selfish since a destroyed eco-system could threaten on a global scale. Play the race card on me? Lol, I'm not american. :p U.S. and Iceland wales, did you see me defending their whaling? In what fricking way is this racism to point out that Japan hides their extintion of creatures under the name of science like cowards? It's fact, no matter if more than they do it, right?
Once again i find you being a dick and trying to move spot light on other countries, Japan's whale count for one year is over 2000 other countries barley add up to 50
What about Iceland and Norway? They're whaling to, so stop trying to pin all the whaling problems on one country! Besides, we have a set quota each year. So yes it is legal.
You are absolutely right, more lies from Sea Shepherd.
They're on record after the incident saying they deliberately abandoned their crew members once the japanese detained them, so as to draw the whole thing out.
Holy shit did I hear that right? THEY (the sea shepherd crew) boarded the Japanese ship and claim they were taken illegally? Shit I never thought I would like to see a ship sink so bad
Man, if I was the captain of the whaling ship, I would've waited to see if they (Greenpeace) would take any action such as filing a lawsuit, and then counter-sue the crap out of them using footage that they took themselves, seriously, these idiots illegally boarded a vessel, what were they expecting.
lol that would be awesome, SS has a annual budget of what 3 million, they would be fucked. I wish the Japanese would do more, as they are the only ones in this conflict that aren't breaking any laws.
Hypocritical Americans! They bombed Japan with nuclear weapons, killing hundred of thousands, but then self-righteously act upset when the Japanese try to feed their people with whale meat.
What are you talking about? Would you like to see that 2 percent starve? What do you eat? Indiginous peoples have a right to their cultural/culinary heritage. Hypocritical Americans!
you are such an idiots... know what? i think you should be on the whales place to try that good experience, for what? Japonese people should be shame of their acts. They are needing other atomic bomb...
i would shoot them, for all you know they could be suicide bombers or pirates, and im not puting my crews lifes at risk if these dudes try and make a pass, mabey id letem hit the deck and beg for the lives but i go boating and somone comes up like that, theyre gonna have a round in them by the time they can say fishsticks.
Good work sea shepherd, if you won't protect our oceans who will? Certainly not neogam209 that's for sure. It would be a sad world if he were in charge
Hang on a moment....you board the whaler and then say you were taken hostage??? Boarding any vessel without authorisation (e.g. from the vsl in question or from the government in whose territorial waters you are in) is an act of piracy as defined by international law. SeaS have breached the law regarding peaceful protest and the whaler was well within her rights to arrest the boarding party. Silly fools. Good way to discredit SeaS btw...
You dont get it do you? Where did they ever say "We dont know why we were detained"? It was deliberate, it was planned, it was effective. Two of the four major whaling companies of Japan (there not the only countries that whale) shut down recently due to pressures and bad publicity. Thank these men for standing up and taking action for something they believe in whether you or I agree with it or not.
Lol whaling will be around in 10 years mark my word on it - Why on this Earth would I thank a white supremacist? As I stated before white supremacy under the disguise of animal rights - My fellow Asians are on to your game and will not cater to your attempts to reform our values and society
the outcome was that whaling operations stopped for 2 weeks and caused massive uproar in the media which brought the whaling issues into many homes. The year they did this they saved 500 whales and all endangered ones.
It was a trap for the whalers to seize them and ultimatly to stop whaling operations which worked. With them leaving them tied up in freezing waters and releasing media that they 'weren't' tied up only caused more of a uproar and was the whalers own doing.
You got to note that the two members were willing to be charged, but with Japan lying and showing no respect for life they gave them back as soon as possible so no more bad media was reported.
Just this year Japan used miltary LRAD's in the ATS zone, Aus government has condmened this and the violation will be discussed at thye next ATS meeting.
i understand your point of view....and personally i dont like the sea shepards way of going about things, even though i'm against whaling, but in their defense they never put human lives at risk. whenever they sink ships it's alway done without explosives and never at sea, and they never use any form of harmful weapons, only smoke gas etc
ah yea that would explain the username... good on ya!
I support Sea shepherd's anti whaling campaign as it is the best thing at this moment that is stopping whaling. Although I wish our govenrment would step up and do what they promised to do... therefore SSCS wouldn't have to be down there and none of these confrontions would be happening.
hey don't think for a second I support thes bastards. theses guys go about all the wrong ways of doing stuff. what good is saving a whale if all you manage to do is hurt a entire family for just doing there job? I am a fisherman in newfoundland and god knows we hears enought out of these people when the seal hunt starts. only question I got is why arn't they this forcefull for the cows or chickens? probably cause there is no money in that for them
Whatever I say is not gonig to change your mind. ignorence is a dangerous thing.
Alot of prowhalers here state "they are only killing minke whales whic haren't endangered"... yet they are killnig more then just the minke species, FIn and Sperm whals are both endangered ad is against the law.
i already said i dont agree with how sea shepard goes about things...BUT like i said (i dont know how much you know about boating), sea shepard NEVER sink ships in the open ocean, ships are sunk at port OR damaged on the water so they're incapable of whaling
Why are you all so hung up on whales? Really, what is it about whales. I bet you people jerk off and cry when you see a whale being hunted. Pussies, all of you.
look, i'm not gonna get into an arguement about how fucked up whaling is, and whether or not they have a 'right' to "research" whales. but the japanese are ILLEGALLY entering restricted waters to hunt ENDANGERED whales. these protocols are written out by the International Whaling Commission (IWC). Minke whales are the only great whales not listed on the endangered species list, yet Japan continues to hunt humpbacks, bows and others. do your research you retarded fuck
I agree I am not going to fight about something a foolish as what these terriosts did either. sure mabye the japs were in the wrong but how does endargening human lives and families justify that.
k #1 it is illegal to board a boat on the water without permission of the captin or crew (which they did). second, where is the rest of the video? I have seen the full video from the other boat of SS throwing objects on the boat and boarding the boat and when they released them to the asustrala coast guard. so just another good cut and paiste jobe done by SS. they are nothing but terrorists!
All of you that believe that this type of protest, are what is wrong with society. You use your holier than thou attitudes to defend those that believe in your cause and cast those that don't vehemently support the same cause as part of the problem. You're all a bunch of hypocrites. I suppose the majority of you also support the Earth Liberation Front. This group (wanted by the US Gov. for terrorism) are burning down personal property because the homes some people build are too big. Kiss my ass!
"A citizen's arrest is an arrest made by a person who is not acting as a sworn law enforcement official.[1] In common law jurisdictions, the practice dates back to medieval England and the English common law, when sheriffs encouraged ordinary citizens to help apprehend law breakers."Maritime citizens arrest on behalf of our planet's greater collective international wisdom" despite self interests and proud patriotic rendition of corporate interpretations of our ocean's laws.
The odd choice of words was purposeful and I'm sorry they were lost on tin ears. "minds are made up?" you talk legalities and post this claim? Secondly, Shepard absolutely has the right to defend international treaties endorsed and enforced by United Nations signatories.
They are an extralegal organization without any mandate to enforce international law. Take a look at the UN convention on the law of the sea. No where does it say a civilian vessel may board or seize a ship it suspects of violating international law, unless of course they have been given permission to do so by their government and they are within territorial waters, or the vessel has been commissioned as a part of the nation's merchant marine during a time of war.
Here is the score card on the Sheperd haters: generally they are downtime wintertime out of work fishing industry advocates on the "its all about me and my money" mail lists writing from their warm households while real men are out fighting icy seas for the existence of important and often intelligent sea creatures.
..."detaining two of our crew members illegally"? the crew members *illegally* boarded another vessel.
without the consent of the captain or a crew officer with delegated authority over the ship, under maritime law, no one may come aboard a vessel unless they are a member of the law-enforcement agency or military of a country whose waters the ship is currently in. this incident took place in international waters, therefore the crew of the Yushin Maru had every right to detain them.
they have "every right to be legally boarded"? odd choice of words there.
firstly, sea shepherd has no way of objectively determining whether or not these vessels are whaling for profit and not conducting research as they claim. as far as sea shepherd is concerned, all these japanese ships are whaling ships. their minds are made up before they even pull out of port.
secondly, as an NGO, sea shepherd does not have legal authority to board ships, especially foreign ones in international waters
How sad is it that we as people are killing so many of life's beautiful creations? (plants, animals, humans, etc.) Anyone can argue that it is a part of life for animals to become extinct but at what point is it unnatural? To kill thousands of whales is NOT a part of natures cycle. We do NOT need to kill them consistently to research them. I think the few thousand already killed should be sufficient enough.
I found the show interesting. You have a very charismatic leader and a bunch of people looking to be a part of something greater than themselves. I suspect that many of them lack direction. It is practically the definition of a cult. Anyway, if you threw things at my ship, tried to foul up my prop, and then jumped on board, I wouldn't be too pleased with you. You aren't held hostage if you jumped on board!
Regardless of the "characters" of the show they all are serving a greater purpose than most. It's called being selfless...not many people can call themselves that anymore. They expected to be treated unkindly. They are volunteering to piss people off not to hand over a letter of endearment.
You shouldn't expect to be treated unkindly by your own crew mates. Jim Jones followers were selfless as well...up to an including killing themselves because their leader told them to. That doesn't make it a good thing.
I don't think Jim Jones and the Sea Shepherd's stories are quite the same...that's a pretty drastic comparison. Jim Jones committed forceful suicide of hundreds including children. I don't think the Sea Shepherd is carrying around weapons of such sorts and threatening it's crew members (or children). Maybe you should think more deeply of the two situations before comparing such different stories.
I agree the situations are not the same. A lot of Jim Jones followers voluntarily took the poison...alot did not. It is more about the power some leaders have over people to manipulate them. I think the capatain of the Sea Sheperd has that quality. He got crew memberbers to jump on board another ship where they easily could have been killed. It has been nice debating with you:)
True...there are people that possess qualities that may enrapture a more weak-minded person to act or respond differently than normal. But the volunteers of the Sea Shepherd knowingly go into this situation that will put there lives at risk. I commend them for it. They are doing "something" w/their lives that to many are selfish to do. Their not preaching the words of religion or taking a political stance but putting their views and beliefs into a non-violent action.
They have been taken to Japan and handed over to the authorities. Japanese police or coast guard or navy (I am not sure wich one) than gave them to Australian Coast Guard in change for the promise that they will be sentenced for vandalism. An australian court than stated that they did not do anything on that ship so set them free. Those two guys were beaten by japanese crew. They had light wounds, and had to sit in some cells for some weeks, but that is all. Nothing serious happened to them.
I applaud what the Sea Shepherd crew did. The Japanese need to stop slaughtering whales all under the FAKE excuse of research.
Research my ass.
We can go on and on and on about other animals. But this video, this thread, is about whales. Not pigs. Not cows.
I hope that whales ships prop gets tangled in rope and seizes up. I hope their harpoon gets removed or thrown over board. I hope PEOPLE stop murdering whales.
Those of you who think that this is a noble and just cause should use the "normal" means to stop this activity. As a merchant sailor if someone boarded my vessel they would be beaten into submission and locked up in my brig. The crew members should have thrown those two over the side. They are terrorists and nothing more.
Wow beat them into submission...that's a mature way to act. Or throw them into the sea to their deaths? Even better. Terrorists torture, kill, and put fear into others...I don't think merely hopping board ship and handing a letter qualifies as terrorism. Just another ignorant person throwing around the word terrorist.
If Japan and Norway (and others) were raising these whales and dolphins as food then they would have a right to "farm" them. However, cows and other "typical" meats are raised for meat. These whales and dolphins are protected wild animals. That is the difference...Atleast in my eyes.
I know heaps of people who support this. Yet, they eat battery-hen chicken, factory-farmed pig and hormone-filled cow. Yet they frown upon some Japanese eating whales and dolphins. The hypocrisy makes me so angry. Either don't eat meat and THEN complain or continue to eat meat but don't condemn others who eat animals people like to think are 'cute' etc.
Thats one side to it, the 'vegan' reason. But the thing with whaling its wrong on so many levels. Japan takes whaling even further by including endangered species in a area that is protected by 3 treaties/regulation. This what I can't stress enough, even people who wat the ATS protected are against japanesewhaling and it has nothing directly to do with whales. Then u havwe the IWC, Australia and the fact of CITIES which illegal trade is happening.
So there is a very deverse range of why people are against whaling and more partically Japanese whaling.
So there is many factors to consider, your statment is one of them. But yet your statment doesn't apply to everyone. See where I am going?
Anyway I am not saying your statment is wrong, I agree that some people are bias by calling them 'cute' and are hypocritical in some statments. but not everyone fights for whales because of that.
fred, I agree with you, I'm sure there are some people on the Shepherd who don't eat meat etc, but, people do seem to care a lot more about dolphins and whales being killed than seeing a massive pig factory where they are kept in crates so tiny they cannot move for months and months.
I know Japan is breaking international law etc. but what about countries like Greenland who kill whales simply for food? They cry & get angry about that, too but do the same thing when they eat cow, pig etc.
That is someone elses fight (the cow-thing). Sea Shepherd stands for the whales and that is their fight. You either stand for something or you don't. You can sit there and stand for nothing and do nothing. Don't condemn these warriors for standing for something.
venom, I'm not the one condemning anyone. I am merely pointing out a very obvious double standard. I hear a lot of people these days who are against other cultures eating marine mammals making racist remarks about the Japanese (and Norwegians) because they eat animals Westerners hold as 'special'. They are the ones condemning others.
its what sea shepard does to stop whaling that I hate I hate how the illgally ram ships and board them like pirates Im a big supporter of animal rights
Well thats great to hear. Sea Shepherd in fact saved 500 whales and no endagered whales were caught. You may not agree with their tactics, but they are doing a damn good job. for the first time last year due to this boarding, it got into the japanese media, best thing is japans media condemned the whale hunt in the same report. Either way 500 whales were saved and I am happy :) like in japanese customs 'musashi' you need the pen and the sword... lets stop this illegal hunt!
If I had 100 million dollars. Id spend 50 million suing and imprisoning all the Sea Sheperd crew and the other 50 million to save the whales through legal intervention.
Well thats a waste of money, cause the international court has ruled in favor with Sea Shepherd several times. Powerful governments have tried, they have access to millions of dollars and high legal experts... yet they lost so I doubt your 50 million would even scrap the surface.
But if I was in your situcation with a million dollars I would spend it on somthing that would actually help this enviroment. Meaning 100% to the whales.
Do you even know how this enviroment works within it self? Food Webs are very complex you screw aorund with them you'll see hundreds od speces disappear, which we are now in many cases over the world.
Ok I put it in simple terms for you, in canada cod numbers are decreasing everyone blames the seals yet the harp seals don't eat cod they eat the larger predator of fish that eats the cod. Therefore the less seals the more the predator fish and less cod.
now thas just an example of harp seals anbd their role to maintain cod levels. Whales are even higher on the food web and our oceans depend on them and sharks. Alredy whales are only 10% of numvers before 1900's and sharks are only 1% before 1800's.
Large commerial factory ships aren't part of the Ocean Food Web.
well seals eat cod that i have seen for myself. here we got salmon farms in the fjords that drive the cod away also. its to many people on earth plane and simple. did you know its comming up the 7 billion now?.
yes exactly what I mean when I said "Large commerial factory ships aren't part of the Ocean Food Web" that goes for any unsustainable hunt.
BTW wirth the harp seals, they are a particular species and their deit is not made up of primary cod. They do eat them but not their target, basicly the pedator fish (which i forgot the name of) is the main threat to cod then harps seals. Beside the enviroment can run itself, these lies are just dug up by canadian fisheries to justify their 300 000 hunt
The oceans has run itself for the last few million years, they don't need humans coming in saying we need to kill more seals to get more fish.
Besides that I am here for whaling, but same applies, they say they hunt minke whales to help out endangered species. That theory has been exposed since they actually started hunting the endangered sperm and fin whale.
we hunt so few minke whales so it dont have any impact on the population. we harwest much from the sea and we also have the most healthy population of cod in the world in the waters around here. its not perfect by far, but we are trying.
Lets compare minke numbers and how much Japan kill a year comapred to the world. Killing just 100 whales is equal to wqiping the whole of germany of this planet each year. Would you support that mass murder?
besides that theory only acocutns for minke, about the endangered fin and sperm whale hunting? and the plans to increse it to 20,000 whales year? What if every nation did that?
Your wrong about japanese waters, its one of the worse maintained in the world. Fish stocks are depleted and full of mercury poison, not to mention the thousands of dolphins slaughtered each year. The Japanese minke is almost extinct and they want to hunt them. It is an unqiue species to this world and they must not be wiped out. That is why a global ban has been placed.
When you'r look at the Japanese clips on youtube....you can't rate and comment because they know there wrong.... and they say that it's TERRORISME.....they kill wales.... we don't kill the people.... or am i wrong? because wales have feelings too! How can they say they were taken hostage. They when on the ship freely cheering as they did it then they call the press and say they were kidnapped. Its good that they try to protect the whales but to say they were take hostage is just bullshit.
falmark187 2 years ago
Research?

1.boarding a vessel without permission = illegal
2.right to use equal/reasonable force to repel boarders = legal
3. right to detain boarders humanely to hand over to authorities = legal
Why doesn't Greenpeace fight this hard to save the tens of thousands of sharks caught and tortured then left alive to die? just for a nothing soup.

Okay so Iceland, Norway, and Japan all whale yet no one is protesting the fact that Norway and Iceland are whaling at all. It is racism.

Boarding any vessel without authorisation (e.g. from the vsl in question or from the government in whose territorial waters you are in) is an act of piracy as defined by international law. Peteomatic5000 2 years ago
the outcome was that whaling operations stopped for 2 weeks and caused massive uproar in the media which brought the whaling issues into many homes. The year they did this they saved 500 whales and all endangered ones.
It was a trap for the whalers to seize them and ultimatly to stop whaling operations which worked. With them leaving them tied up in freezing waters and releasing media that they 'weren't' tied up only caused more of a uproar and was the whalers own doing.
fred100446 2 years ago
You got to note that the two members were willing to be charged, but with Japan lying and showing no respect for life they gave them back as soon as possible so no more bad media was reported.

Minke whales are the only great whales not listed on the endangered species list, yet Japan continues to hunt humpbacks, bows and others. do your research you retarded fuck

bostonmaritime 3 years ago
nice conclusion of Sea Shepherd there. however Sea Shepherd has been proven legal under the UN charter legal in the USA courts and even international.
BTW no one here thinks this is a type of protest. Sea Shepherd is not a protest organisation, its a law enforcement organisation under the UN.
Don't like it? go change the UN charters if you are that desperate.
It is also stupid to compare SSCS with ALF or ELF, if SSCS was ALF they would be burning the japanese ships wouldn't they?

"A citizen's arrest is an arrest made by a person who is not acting as a sworn law enforcement official.[1] In common law jurisdictions, the practice dates back to medieval England and the English common law, when sheriffs encouraged ordinary citizens to help apprehend law breakers."Maritime citizens arrest on behalf of our planet's greater collective international wisdom" despite self interests and proud patriotic rendition of corporate interpretations of our ocean's laws.
Shoetiefly 3 years ago
The odd choice of words was purposeful and I'm sorry they were lost on tin ears. "minds are made up?" you talk legalities and post this claim? Secondly, Shepard absolutely has the right to defend international treaties endorsed and enforced by United Nations signatories.
Shoetiefly 3 years ago
No, they do not.
They are an extralegal organization without any mandate to enforce international law. Take a look at the UN convention on the law of the sea. No where does it say a civilian vessel may board or seize a ship it suspects of violating international law, unless of course they have been given permission to do so by their government and they are within territorial waters, or the vessel has been commissioned as a part of the nation's merchant marine during a time of war.

..."detaining two of our crew members illegally"? the crew members *illegally* boarded another vessel.
without the consent of the captain or a crew officer with delegated authority over the ship, under maritime law, no one may come aboard a vessel unless they are a member of the law-enforcement agency or military of a country whose waters the ship is currently in. this incident took place in international waters, therefore the crew of the Yushin Maru had every right to detain them.
grahamnoyes 3 years ago
Actually not grahamnoyes. Vessels conducting illegal activities in international waters have every right to be legally boarded.
Shoetiefly 3 years ago
they have "every right to be legally boarded"? odd choice of words there.
firstly, sea shepherd has no way of objectively determining whether or not these vessels are whaling for profit and not conducting research as they claim. as far as sea shepherd is concerned, all these japanese ships are whaling ships. their minds are made up before they even pull out of port.
secondly, as an NGO, sea shepherd does not have legal authority to board ships, especially foreign ones in international waters
grahamnoyes 3 years ago

You aren't held hostage if you jumped on board!
rns2go 3 years ago
Regardless of the "characters" of the show they all are serving a greater purpose than most. It's called being selfless...not many people can call themselves that anymore. They expected to be treated unkindly. They are volunteering to piss people off not to hand over a letter of endearment.
maryjaneDR420 3 years ago
They expected to be treated unkindly...
You shouldn't expect to be treated unkindly by your own crew mates. Jim Jones followers were selfless as well...up to an including killing themselves because their leader told them to. That doesn't make it a good thing.
rns2go 3 years ago
I don't think Jim Jones and the Sea Shepherd's stories are quite the same...that's a pretty drastic comparison. Jim Jones committed forceful suicide of hundreds including children. I don't think the Sea Shepherd is carrying around weapons of such sorts and threatening it's crew members (or children). Maybe you should think more deeply of the two situations before comparing such different stories.
maryjaneDR420 3 years ago
I agree the situations are not the same. A lot of Jim Jones followers voluntarily took the poison...alot did not. It is more about the power some leaders have over people to manipulate them. I think the capatain of the Sea Sheperd has that quality. He got crew memberbers to jump on board another ship where they easily could have been killed. It has been nice debating with you:)
rns2go 3 years ago
True...there are people that possess qualities that may enrapture a more weak-minded person to act or respond differently than normal. But the volunteers of the Sea Shepherd knowingly go into this situation that will put there lives at risk. I commend them for it. They are doing "something" w/their lives that to many are selfish to do. Their not preaching the words of religion or taking a political stance but putting their views and beliefs into a non-violent action.
maryjaneDR420 3 years ago
They have been taken to Japan and handed over to the authorities. Japanese police or coast guard or navy (I am not sure wich one) than gave them to Australian Coast Guard in change for the promise that they will be sentenced for vandalism. An australian court than stated that they did not do anything on that ship so set them free. Those two guys were beaten by japanese crew. They had light wounds, and had to sit in some cells for some weeks, but that is all. Nothing serious happened to them.

They are terrorists and nothing more.
bostonmaritime 3 years ago
Wow beat them into submission...that's a mature way to act. Or throw them into the sea to their deaths? Even better. Terrorists torture, kill, and put fear into others...I don't think merely hopping board ship and handing a letter qualifies as terrorism. Just another ignorant person throwing around the word terrorist.

If Japan and Norway (and others) were raising these whales and dolphins as food then they would have a right to "farm" them. However, cows and other "typical" meats are raised for meat. These whales and dolphins are protected wild animals. That is the difference...Atleast in my eyes.

rgs650 3 years ago
I know heaps of people who support this. Yet, they eat battery-hen chicken, factory-farmed pig and hormone-filled cow. Yet they frown upon some Japanese eating whales and dolphins. The hypocrisy makes me so angry. Either don't eat meat and THEN complain or continue to eat meat but don't condemn others who eat animals people like to think are 'cute' etc.
thestarduster 3 years ago
Thats one side to it, the 'vegan' reason. But the thing with whaling its wrong on so many levels. Japan takes whaling even further by including endangered species in a area that is protected by 3 treaties/regulation. This what I can't stress enough, even people who wat the ATS protected are against japanesewhaling and it has nothing directly to do with whales. Then u havwe the IWC, Australia and the fact of CITIES which illegal trade is happening.
fred100446 3 years ago
So there is a very deverse range of why people are against whaling and more partically Japanese whaling.
So there is many factors to consider, your statment is one of them. But yet your statment doesn't apply to everyone. See where I am going?
Anyway I am not saying your statment is wrong, I agree that some people are bias by calling them 'cute' and are hypocritical in some statments. but not everyone fights for whales because of that.
fred100446 3 years ago
fred, I agree with you, I'm sure there are some people on the Shepherd who don't eat meat etc, but, people do seem to care a lot more about dolphins and whales being killed than seeing a massive pig factory where they are kept in crates so tiny they cannot move for months and months.
I know Japan is breaking international law etc. but what about countries like Greenland who kill whales simply for food? They cry & get angry about that, too but do the same thing when they eat cow, pig etc.
thestarduster 3 years ago
That is someone elses fight (the cow-thing). Sea Shepherd stands for the whales and that is their fight. You either stand for something or you don't. You can sit there and stand for nothing and do nothing. Don't condemn these warriors for standing for something.
Venom1a 3 years ago
venom, I'm not the one condemning anyone. I am merely pointing out a very obvious double standard. I hear a lot of people these days who are against other cultures eating marine mammals making racist remarks about the Japanese (and Norwegians) because they eat animals Westerners hold as 'special'. They are the ones condemning others.
thestarduster 3 years ago
its what sea shepard does to stop whaling that I hate I hate how the illgally ram ships and board them like pirates Im a big supporter of animal rights
thedarkside54 3 years ago
Well thats great to hear. Sea Shepherd in fact saved 500 whales and no endagered whales were caught. You may not agree with their tactics, but they are doing a damn good job. for the first time last year due to this boarding, it got into the japanese media, best thing is japans media condemned the whale hunt in the same report. Either way 500 whales were saved and I am happy :) like in japanese customs 'musashi' you need the pen and the sword... lets stop this illegal hunt!
fred100446 3 years ago
fred100446,
If I had 100 million dollars. Id spend 50 million suing and imprisoning all the Sea Sheperd crew and the other 50 million to save the whales through legal intervention.
axe863 3 years ago
Well thats a waste of money, cause the international court has ruled in favor with Sea Shepherd several times. Powerful governments have tried, they have access to millions of dollars and high legal experts... yet they lost so I doubt your 50 million would even scrap the surface.
But if I was in your situcation with a million dollars I would spend it on somthing that would actually help this enviroment. Meaning 100% to the whales.
fred100446 3 years ago
and how is a to big population of whales going to save the environment?.
sisutrucks 3 years ago
Do you even know how this enviroment works within it self? Food Webs are very complex you screw aorund with them you'll see hundreds od speces disappear, which we are now in many cases over the world.
Ok I put it in simple terms for you, in canada cod numbers are decreasing everyone blames the seals yet the harp seals don't eat cod they eat the larger predator of fish that eats the cod. Therefore the less seals the more the predator fish and less cod.
fred100446 3 years ago
now thas just an example of harp seals anbd their role to maintain cod levels. Whales are even higher on the food web and our oceans depend on them and sharks. Alredy whales are only 10% of numvers before 1900's and sharks are only 1% before 1800's.
Large commerial factory ships aren't part of the Ocean Food Web.
fred100446 3 years ago
well seals eat cod that i have seen for myself. here we got salmon farms in the fjords that drive the cod away also. its to many people on earth plane and simple. did you know its comming up the 7 billion now?.
sisutrucks 3 years ago
yes exactly what I mean when I said "Large commerial factory ships aren't part of the Ocean Food Web" that goes for any unsustainable hunt.
BTW wirth the harp seals, they are a particular species and their deit is not made up of primary cod. They do eat them but not their target, basicly the pedator fish (which i forgot the name of) is the main threat to cod then harps seals. Beside the enviroment can run itself, these lies are just dug up by canadian fisheries to justify their 300 000 hunt
fred100446 3 years ago
