The song was written by Natalie Maines (lead singer) of the Dixie Chicks and Neil Finn. Natalie has said that it was inspired by her losing her grandmother to Alzheimers. A great song.
Both versions are great!..Neil said he envisioned a different role for the guitar that what Rubin did. But with Emily playing banjo, and Martie playing fiddle, they obviously sound different.....I can enjoy both without putting one up or down!
Amazing song! I do think it's about Paul. I am one of the many drummers that auditioned. I would love to be part of the creative process that is Crowded House!
It was very relaxed and comfortable. I had to play 4 songs. The guy's we're great! They really played with heart, wich was impressive considering home many times they've played these same 4 songs over and over. It was alot of fun! Hearing "Four Seasons In One Day" while playing along was a highlight for me!
Wow! What an honor to read a comment by someone who played with Neil and Nick! Well done! Even if you're not selected, this will always be a great memory, I'm sure.
The way the whole thing came about was great. My friend and band mate met someone involved with the band which led to the audition. He's a huge Neil Finn fan. At the end of the audition I called him and ha got to talk with Neil!! That was great!
The way I got the audition is crazy. My friend and bandmate is a bartender. He met someone in the CH camp. A couple days later I auditioned. My friend is a huge Neil fan. After the audition I called my friend and he got to talk to him!
How brilliant! Wasn't it a fantastic concert! Thanks so much for posting this up. I love it I've been dying to listen to this song again. Its been haunting my mind ever since Thursday.

I love that this song is about the past and future and Neil is being backed by his son and they amazingly talented Ellie-Mae Barnes (the future!!)
And as far as only oldies playing guitars - check out Liam Finn!!!

One of Natalie Maines' sons is Beckett Finn Pasdar, named after Neil Finn.

The chorus is so typically Neil Finn: brilliance. What an absolute legend.

That song has "Neil Finn" all over it. I wonder what the Dixie Chicks input was other than lyrically.

I agree, this is vintage Finn.

In response to "dingothing's" post, this song is about Natalie Maines' grandmother who has Alzheimer's.

Silent House is a GREAT song. While no one can beat the Dixie Chicks' original version, Neil Finn does an awesome job! Beautiful.

You're crazy....Neil is a million times better than the chicks.

I guess it's not about Paul. Read a discription on Dixie Chicks web site. Sure could be. huh?

I don't think it's about Paul Hester. One of the Dixie Chick's said the lyrics are about a family member going senile.

This is cool - I think it's a song Neil co-wrote with the Dixie Chicks. When is it from?
