The Germans WARNED that they would fire on ANY ship no matter what or who it was carring and yet we sent the ship anyways. You don't blame a tiger for attacking someone if the person was poking it.
IF there had been ammo on board (i aint saying there was) the ship would have suffered a greater explosion than it did. Shipwrecks and disasters like these have created a much more safer ocean voyage like the requirement of a lifevest for everyone aboard a liner
Divers were sent down last year to dive the wreck. They found piles of Remington .303 ammo in the Lusitania wreckage. Look it up. Nevertheless, this doesn't change the fact that the German U-Boat fired upon a civilian passenger ship in international waters committing a war crime.
how can you people sit there and say its an inside job? you wouldnt be saying that if someone you knew was on that ship. this has to be the second worst ship disaster ever (first is gusltoff). i admit they should NOT have been carrying ammo. but still its a passenger ship why in the hell would you torpedo it? the germans just did a dasterdly deed in a dasterdly way. eathier way we will all find peace when we join God in heaven.
The RMS Lusitania was proven by Robert Ballard to have sunk from the torpedo hitting a coal bunker that was filled with coal dust that caused the double explosion. First explosion was the torpedo and the second was the coal dust. Coal dust is very combustible
uhh NO! Carpathia was American. she had a proud WW2 and WWI service AGAINST the germans! no commercial german ship would be in those waters! they were in a war you poor uninformed fool!
LOL, YOU are the uninformed soul! Titanic sank in 1912; World War One did not begin until 1914, moron. I accidentally confused the first ship to answer the Titanic's distress call and the Carpathia, not a big deal!
Carpathia was an English built ship that was part of the Cunard Line fleet. Cunard was a British Shipping Company. The Carpathia was sank in WWI and therefore never saw service in WWII. So if you want to know who the uninformed "fool" is just look in a mirror
There was nothing heinous regarding U-20's attack. The Imperial German government posted numerous warnings that those who chose to sail in wartime did so at their own risk. The Lusitania blatantly transported munitions on a passenger ship - AGAINST international law! The U-20 fired just ONE torpedo. They realized they had fired on a passenger ship after the fact and ceased fire. The Admiralty is the real criminal for allowing weapons to sale with unwitting civilians.
The Lusitania was a passenger ship. They also allowed munitions to be loaded on that ship to aid the british for the war. The German Embassy actually asked the united states newspapers to print a warning ad that any ship entering those waters may be sunk. The Lusitania, by definition, would be considered a lawful military target by the Germans because it carried military supplies for the british. Why would the U.S. allow passengers on a ship with munitions? To get US citizens to enter the war
The wreck of the U 20 lays about 150 meters off the coast of Jutland Denmark not far from were i live. were she was blown up by her crew after running aground. Her conning tower and 80mm deck gun can be see at the wreck museum in Thorsminde
To call the bombing "heinous" is missing the historical und juridical facts a bit.
Compare the bombing of the "Gustloff" and of the "Lousitania". If you come to the conclusion that both were "heinous", that would at least be consequent. I however would agree to most historians that both bombings were a hugeb tragedy but, as sad as it is, in an international law view, legal.
its a good video, but when was the wreckage found? some of the pix of the lusitania (both before the bombing and the coral-crusted wreck on the bottom) resemble that of the titanic. that 4-funnel look must have been a popular design for transatlantic ships during the WWI period.
the reason why steam ships had four funnels was for show,it made them look more powerful, majestic and important.a ship only needed 2 or 1 funnel but then because of there size they would have looked stupid.
the Lusitania was loaded w/military supplies and Wilson knew she would be sunk. the german embassy tried to warn americans. they were deliberately sent into an area known to be infested w/ u-boats. The plan of the sinking was to make americans indignant and to be willing to enter the war. So, the lusitania was an "inside job" also. So was the titanic, but that is another story...such a sad state of affairs. public opinion can be so easily swayed.
The Americans took two more years before they entered the war, in a war that had already lasted a year and ran for only one year more. I wonder if we read too much into this. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't buy it somehow. I really think the Americans tried quite hard to stay out of the war and the Brits would have won it any how - with or without direct US involvement
Even the Lusitania incident couldnt get Wilson to join in ,it was only after the Zimmerman Telegram ,that he had no choice but to act for American interests. Especially when their own trans atlantic cable was used to send the message. And that extra help from the Americans couldnt have been at a better time for the Allies when it eventually came.
simple portholes were left open and there was a second explosion on board eathier another torpedo or probably ammunition for troops.and dabulldog britannic was sunk by a mine but still she a casulity of war like lusitania
I think the Lusitania looked better than the Titanic. Titanic looked good too, but it looked sort of clumsy, but the Lusitania looked very sleek and streamlined.
i think you had to be an idot to becoming for america to england when there was a war and a big risk of the germans going to sink you it more understanding if it was british people outgoing to america were it is safe !! RIP RMS Lusitania & Passagens of Lusitania
Right up to the point of Lusitania's sinking, it was believed that civilians would be spared the horrors of war. The vast majority of people still hoped for a civilised conflict, even after it wasn't 'over by christmas.'
The other factor is that the Lusitania's speed made her impossible for a u-boat to chase her down. Schwieger's U-20 just happened to be in a perfect position as the Lusitania sailed in front of him, crossing the 'T'.
Nearly textbook shot. Schweiger did not expect to sink her.
i think lusitania is the one of the worst diesasters ever for ships.the titanic lost so many lives and sank on the maiden voyage.but if u think about it the lusitania was murdered never sunk taking 100 children and over 1000 lives with her.if lusitania isnt the worst she sure is in second
lusitania is sadder. shes a victim of war war one of the greatest casualitys in that war.its also one of of the most hanesest acts ever by germany.i know they warned but its a passenger ship.people want to see their families oversea. germany in all wars have done dasterdly deeds in dasterdlyways this is one of the worst. RIP lusitania we will never forget
Well, now that you explained it to me clearly, I do now understand, but it is a bit ironic how "Lusitania" only got 17 min., while "Titanic" was able to get 2.5 hours.
It is a known FACT that the Lusitania was carrying munitions(and was armed),the Lusitania's own cargo manifests listed the munitions. All you have to de is read the manifests. The whole idea was for this ship to be sunk. That was the "heinous act".Read the book by Colin Simpson,it is all in there.
Well you probably can't feel any sadness since you didn't lose any family. My 2 great aunt and her niece Alice age 13 were traveling on the Lusitania. They were in the
1st class dinning room when the torpedo hit. They Catherine rushed to the boat deck thinking Alice was behind her, but Alice ran back to there state room to save her kitten. Alices body was never found. Catherine Never forgave herself and died heartbroken 3 years later.
The Lusitania was build with money from the British Royal Navy. In war times this ship served as a assistant war ship. It had weapons and munition on board. Civilians were warned not to travel and it travelled directly in a war zone. It was a legal target
Zeitzler is right, though it was extremely surprising to meet somebody who had family who traveled on the "Lusitania". Do you know if any of your family happened to travel on the "Titanic". I'd really be delighted!
It was a war...german autorithies advised civilians to avoid travelling.. and what sunked the Lusitania? If she wouldnt had being carring weapons she wouldnt had blown-up so hard and she would survived or at least lasted hours before sinking (as the torpedo would only damaged at best 2 compartments).. The sub fired her last torpedo, they wanted to cause damage to a potential troop ship.. if she had not explosives she would be saved..but not..lets smugle weapons in civ ships..
Actually, the second explosion was caused by coal dust thrown into the air by the torpedo. Coal dust mixed with air is extremely explosive. The 'illegam munitions' theory was proposed by the German admiralty to justify the attack.
Thats true... now the coal dust teory is the acepted one..
That doesnt change the fact that Churchill ordered the cargo ships to ram any subs in sight.. until then german subs advised the crews to evacuate with time and then sank the abandoned ship.. churchil's orders to ram subs and gun them in sight made the sub crews to attack ships without warning.
Actually, recent expeditions have suggested that it was Lusitania's boilers that exploded. Icy cold water coming into contact with red-hot boilers is a very nasty combination.
the facts are: the Lusitania WAS carrying weapons of war (as stated connon shells etc), and as such made it a target. the germans started unresricted sub warfare because the british cut the germans off (not allowing even food ships to pass into germany).
the captain of the lusitania ignored orders to zig zag and to also be further in the channel. it was a tragic loss of life.
little known FACT is that towards the end of ww2 soviet subs torpedoed 3 german passenger liners carrying refugees and soldiers fleeing the advancing russians. the combined death toll at least 18,000 (Willhelm Gustloff, general steuben, and goya). wounder why history teachers leave that out? i HATE nazis etc, but the allies also committed attrocities, dont forget that.
Oh, rly? I tought it was the assasination of the duke of serbia? USA wanted to join this war after this inciden.
This is typical american way of warfare: make their death toll look like martyrs. Germany was no "great enemy" like y'all love to believe. If you want your martyrs, start to think of all the rapes and murders performed by your american "heroes" when they invaded germany at the end of "The Great War".
It's WAR, there are no good people, no matter what they try to make you believe.
The tragedy did NOT "cause" WW1 ~ it caused the USA to enter the "family quarrel" that was WW1. I'm particularly interested in whence you get the idea of the existence of an "AMERICAN" British line of ships which you, then, claim to be suitable war targets. The German navy HAD EVERY RIGHT TO SINK THE MUNITION SHIP, the RMS LUSITANIA. The ALLIES had NO RIGHT to use civilians as DECOYS. THAT was the "heinous" act ~ the sinking was a mere act of war which is a real occurrence ~ like it or not.
daddybare2002, can you PROVE the Luisitania was carrying munitions? It seems to me that the Germans used the "munitions carrier" theory to excuse their ghastly actions.
cowboysarecool, can you PROVE that they WEREN'T??? Seems to **ME** that you are frivilously defying ALL reported findings by those credited with knowing AND being able to "PROVE" it at the time the proof was readily available to the world. SHEEEESH ~ how about YOU "PROVING" literally, ANYTHING throughout all of HISTORY??? Did HISTORY never happen simply because it's uncomfortable for YOU??? Hey ~ ya know what ARROGANCE is??? {wink}
daddybare2002, the crazy thing about history is that there are controvesies like the Lusitania/muntions theory that will forever remain a mystery. The problem is when people like you and me get so emotionally involved in something that will forever remain enshrowed in the shadows of history.
you are correct in ONE thing that I can see ~ I am extremely "emotionally involved" {as you put it} in TRUTH and TRUTHFULNESS and NO TRUTH is arbitrary. Neither do you, I nor anyone else {even in vast delegation} influence the establishment, thereof.
Like it or not ~ we can ONLY report on what the TRUTH, already, is. The PROBLEM, however, comes only when someone is NOT "emotionally involved" in the TRUTH of which there is MUCH TOO VAST A NUMBER nowadays!!! And, only ARROGANCE places forth that any INDIVIDUAL can possibly have any POWER over the TRUTH. Things are as they are; and, NOONE will ever change that whether **I** report it or anyone else does.
And, as for so-called "controversies" ~ MOST of the time, so many WANNABE "intellectuals" try to PRETEND that a VALID controversy exists when, in fact, no such thing is in the "pot". They just need an escape valve for the steam pressure that builds up within them; and, they saw a movie about some debating course so decide they hafta emulate it in order to show their intelligence. The sad thing is that they do that very thing ~ they show that which ain't all that much!!!
It's wisely said: "Better to keep one's mouth SHUT and be thought a fool than open it and remove all doubt" If history was as it SHOULD be ~ filled with FACTS ~ & titular history buffs were concerned with INTEGRITY in their speech, t'would be far LESS idiocies & asinine, ridiculous claims made by MOST {shown on here} but, then, there'd be no need for "YouTube" and THAT wouldn't be KOOL.
Anyway, YOU should LEARN the TRUE meaning of "theory" and stop bending with the wind so easily ~ using the terminology of the ENEMY of all VALID education in the manner chosen by that enemy. Further, you need to learn what a "FACT", indeed, **IS** and speak accordingly!!! So many in today's warped society portray that no such things as FACTS even exist; but, at the end, the FACTS are right there to BITE THEM IN THAT END and evaluate their MOCKERY of knowledge in a most fitting manner.
daddybare2002, were all those replies where you droned on and on about hazy philisopical ideas meant to be a reply to my comment? Face it- it would great if history was a series of perfectly recorded facts. However, history involves imperfect people.
Get your history right guys. Unrestricted submarine warfare as practiced by Imperial Germany was HIGHLY criticized at the time and in the end turned out to be a fatal policy as it brought in the U.S. providing the extra push that broke the German army. All this nonsense about conspiracy just shows a lack of understanding of politics. WW1 was a mutual calamity, but unrestricted sub warfare was a German policy, planned and executed by Imperial Germany.
ander: I agree that the conspiracy theories are far fetched. The U-boat war was a response to the British "starvation blockade" of the Central Powers, which resulted in famine conditions in central Europe. Germans saw U-boat warfare as retaliation, but it was an enormous blunder (as was the entire war).
The whole cataclysm was the result of a terrorist act, which Austria felt had to be avenged. The evidence linking Serbia to "Sarajevo" was more more convincing that that linking Iraq to 9-11.
The CLAIMED "heinous" act was NOT performed by the GERMANS in this case. In NO WAR is it considered an "HEINOUS" act to sink a MUNITIONS SHIP of the enemy involved, which the Lusitania has been PROVEN to be! The ones performing the HEINOUS act in the whole deal were those that used the CIVILIANS, WOMEN & CHILDREN to SHIELD the MUNITIONS on the ship!! The commentary supplied on the video clip is unnecessarily VOLATILE in referring to those who SANK the MUNITIONS SHIP as performing an HEINOUS act.
If you are a LITERATE individual, you should know what I am saying; but, I'll restate it here for your pleasure. The Lusitania was a ship which was used to transport MUNITIONS {that means BOMBS, GUNSHELLS, USW} Itwas, therefore, a WARSHIP and the ALLIES had, absolutely, NO RIGHT to try to conceal the munitions on the ship by placing civilians of any gender or age on the ship as passengers. The only "HEINOUS" act that was performed under such circumstances was by the allies.
What the hell would you do with small arms in the middle of the fucking ocean??!?!?!?!!?!?? RMS Luisitania was carrying light arms, I see, but to kill over a thousand people over some guns is out of the fucking question!!!! The captian of U-20 was given a bad name for himself because of his actions.
Adama16: I won't defend the sinking of a passenger liner, though to use such a liner to transport munitions is analogous to using human shields to transport war supplies. And the German gov. did warn people that any ship sailing to England was liable to be attacked.
The British at this same time had imposed a "starvation blockade" against Germany which resulted in the death by hunger of hundreds of thousands of elderly, disabled, and children. Isn't that also a war crime?
"I am reluctantly driven to the conclusion that there was a conspiracy deliberately to put the Lusitania at risk in the hope that even an abortive attack on her would bring the United States into the war. Such a conspiracy could not have been put into effect without Winston Churchill's express permission and approval." -- British naval historian Patrick Beesly in his book 'Room 40'
CaptKev; I believe Churchill at that time was a member of the British cabinet and First Lord of the Admiralty, which is roughly the equivalent to the US Secretary of the Navy.
It surprises me that anyone could say Lusitania was an American ship. It was British - RMS means Royal Mail Ship. She was just off the Irish coast, on the normal shipping route. It is totally unthinkable that there could have been British connivance with the Germans. There may have been some munitions aboard, but there was a lot of contraband being smuggled by both sides. Britain didn't particularly want America in the war. The US was militarily weak and couldn't offer much to the war effort.
"Eighteen minutes after the initial explosion, the Lusitania began its final plunge. It had lasted only four minutes longer than the Empress of Ireland."
Ballard, Doctor Robert D. Ghost Liners. Madison Publishing, 1998. Page 45.
<For reference, the Empress of Ireland lasted only fourteen minutes.>
Your right the lusitania was just was set up by the british government because there was American passengers on board and they knew that if they sunk her that America would enter the war
England didn't want to involve the world it wanted to get America involved so they could have supplies and have support of there troops because the lusitania wasn't even where she should have been they sent her into a trap because if she sank with all the Americans on board America would enter and help britain and by the way it wasn't a American ship it was a british ship.
The Lusitania sank of the coast of Ireland? Or was in england, it was somewhere in Europe, but why would the British get involved with thier enemies. What did they do, ask the Germans if you could kill over 1000 people so America would enter the war? Germans sank it because it was believed to have ammunition going to Europe.
She was on the wrong coarse miles from where she sould have been. The British sent her on a coarse so she would run into U-boats it was the perfect plan half of America wanted to join Germany so when all of those American's died they would be mad and fight for Britain.
ohhhh, WOWZERS!!! Thanks LOADS for the history lesson, Future Director 7. Do you remember the history of which hand you used to wipe your ass the LAST time [previous to this time, that is] you used it in speaking such gems of VERY little known facts???
DUH-H-H-H-H!!! Look at the very top of this page and see the TITLE as "RMS LUSITANIA". At least, on MY screen, it does NOT say "USS Lusitania"; but, instead, "RMS" or "ROYAL MAIL SHIP" Lusitania!!! Please advise regarding just how many more "ROYAL MAIL SHIPS" is in the **AMERICAN** FLEET ~ if you will.

The RMS Lusitania was proven by Robert Ballard to have sunk from the torpedo hitting a coal bunker that was filled with coal dust that caused the double explosion. First explosion was the torpedo and the second was the coal dust. Coal dust is very combustible
BB2433 2 years ago
BTW, I agree that it was probably the coal dust from the coal bunker that ignited and not the ammo. They did find ammo last year though.

LOL, YOU are the uninformed soul! Titanic sank in 1912; World War One did not begin until 1914, moron. I accidentally confused the first ship to answer the Titanic's distress call and the Carpathia, not a big deal!

LOL, Carpathia is build in Liverpool and sank in 1918 (in the end of the first WW), long before the second world war began.
She been attacked by a german u-boat and 5 people died!

The Admiralty is the real criminal for allowing weapons to sale with unwitting civilians.
ataramprat 3 years ago
this, i will have to agree with.
NA337reborn 2 years ago
The Lusitania was a passenger ship. They also allowed munitions to be loaded on that ship to aid the british for the war. The German Embassy actually asked the united states newspapers to print a warning ad that any ship entering those waters may be sunk. The Lusitania, by definition, would be considered a lawful military target by the Germans because it carried military supplies for the british. Why would the U.S. allow passengers on a ship with munitions? To get US citizens to enter the war

To call the bombing "heinous" is missing the historical und juridical facts a bit.
Compare the bombing of the "Gustloff" and of the "Lousitania". If you come to the conclusion that both were "heinous", that would at least be consequent. I however would agree to most historians that both bombings were a hugeb tragedy but, as sad as it is, in an international law view, legal.

its a good video, but when was the wreckage found? some of the pix of the lusitania (both before the bombing and the coral-crusted wreck on the bottom) resemble that of the titanic. that 4-funnel look must have been a popular design for transatlantic ships during the WWI period.
tamandocomando 3 years ago
the reason why steam ships had four funnels was for show,it made them look more powerful, majestic and important.a ship only needed 2 or 1 funnel but then because of there size they would have looked stupid.

the Lusitania was loaded w/military supplies and Wilson knew she would be sunk. the german embassy tried to warn americans. they were deliberately sent into an area known to be infested w/ u-boats. The plan of the sinking was to make americans indignant and to be willing to enter the war. So, the lusitania was an "inside job" also. So was the titanic, but that is another story...such a sad state of affairs. public opinion can be so easily swayed.
batgirl791 3 years ago

The Americans took two more years before they entered the war, in a war that had already lasted a year and ran for only one year more. I wonder if we read too much into this. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't buy it somehow. I really think the Americans tried quite hard to stay out of the war and the Brits would have won it any how - with or without direct US involvement
MARKBPHARM 3 years ago
Even the Lusitania incident couldnt get Wilson to join in ,it was only after the Zimmerman Telegram ,that he had no choice but to act for American interests. Especially when their own trans atlantic cable was used to send the message. And that extra help from the Americans couldnt have been at a better time for the Allies when it eventually came.

ashleytisproduction2 3 years ago
Right up to the point of Lusitania's sinking, it was believed that civilians would be spared the horrors of war. The vast majority of people still hoped for a civilised conflict, even after it wasn't 'over by christmas.'
The other factor is that the Lusitania's speed made her impossible for a u-boat to chase her down. Schwieger's U-20 just happened to be in a perfect position as the Lusitania sailed in front of him, crossing the 'T'.
Nearly textbook shot. Schweiger did not expect to sink her.

The sub fired her last torpedo, they wanted to cause damage to a potential troop ship.. if she had not explosives she would be saved..but not..lets smugle weapons in civ ships..
sparrowlt 4 years ago
Actually, the second explosion was caused by coal dust thrown into the air by the torpedo. Coal dust mixed with air is extremely explosive. The 'illegam munitions' theory was proposed by the German admiralty to justify the attack.
BamBogleBlaster 4 years ago
Thats true... now the coal dust teory is the acepted one..
That doesnt change the fact that Churchill ordered the cargo ships to ram any subs in sight.. until then german subs advised the crews to evacuate with time and then sank the abandoned ship.. churchil's orders to ram subs and gun them in sight made the sub crews to attack ships without warning.
It was a descending espiral ...
sparrowlt 4 years ago
Actually, recent expeditions have suggested that it was Lusitania's boilers that exploded. Icy cold water coming into contact with red-hot boilers is a very nasty combination.

the facts are: the Lusitania WAS carrying weapons of war (as stated connon shells etc), and as such made it a target. the germans started unresricted sub warfare because the british cut the germans off (not allowing even food ships to pass into germany).
the captain of the lusitania ignored orders to zig zag and to also be further in the channel. it was a tragic loss of life.
metube1120 4 years ago
little known FACT is that towards the end of ww2 soviet subs torpedoed 3 german passenger liners carrying refugees and soldiers fleeing the advancing russians. the combined death toll at least 18,000 (Willhelm Gustloff, general steuben, and goya). wounder why history teachers leave that out? i HATE nazis etc, but the allies also committed attrocities, dont forget that.

lido9090 4 years ago
AidanReed 4 years ago
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
daddybare2002, can you PROVE the Luisitania was carrying munitions? It seems to me that the Germans used the "munitions carrier" theory to excuse their ghastly actions.
cowboysarecool 4 years ago
cowboysarecool, can you PROVE that they WEREN'T??? Seems to **ME** that you are frivilously defying ALL reported findings by those credited with knowing AND being able to "PROVE" it at the time the proof was readily available to the world. SHEEEESH ~ how about YOU "PROVING" literally, ANYTHING throughout all of HISTORY??? Did HISTORY never happen simply because it's uncomfortable for YOU??? Hey ~ ya know what ARROGANCE is??? {wink}
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
daddybare2002, the crazy thing about history is that there are controvesies like the Lusitania/muntions theory that will forever remain a mystery. The problem is when people like you and me get so emotionally involved in something that will forever remain enshrowed in the shadows of history.
cowboysarecool 4 years ago
you are correct in ONE thing that I can see ~ I am extremely "emotionally involved" {as you put it} in TRUTH and TRUTHFULNESS and NO TRUTH is arbitrary. Neither do you, I nor anyone else {even in vast delegation} influence the establishment, thereof.
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
Like it or not ~ we can ONLY report on what the TRUTH, already, is. The PROBLEM, however, comes only when someone is NOT "emotionally involved" in the TRUTH of which there is MUCH TOO VAST A NUMBER nowadays!!! And, only ARROGANCE places forth that any INDIVIDUAL can possibly have any POWER over the TRUTH. Things are as they are; and, NOONE will ever change that whether **I** report it or anyone else does.
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
And, as for so-called "controversies" ~ MOST of the time, so many WANNABE "intellectuals" try to PRETEND that a VALID controversy exists when, in fact, no such thing is in the "pot". They just need an escape valve for the steam pressure that builds up within them; and, they saw a movie about some debating course so decide they hafta emulate it in order to show their intelligence. The sad thing is that they do that very thing ~ they show that which ain't all that much!!!
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
It's wisely said: "Better to keep one's mouth SHUT and be thought a fool than open it and remove all doubt" If history was as it SHOULD be ~ filled with FACTS ~ & titular history buffs were concerned with INTEGRITY in their speech, t'would be far LESS idiocies & asinine, ridiculous claims made by MOST {shown on here} but, then, there'd be no need for "YouTube" and THAT wouldn't be KOOL.
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
Anyway, YOU should LEARN the TRUE meaning of "theory" and stop bending with the wind so easily ~ using the terminology of the ENEMY of all VALID education in the manner chosen by that enemy. Further, you need to learn what a "FACT", indeed, **IS** and speak accordingly!!! So many in today's warped society portray that no such things as FACTS even exist; but, at the end, the FACTS are right there to BITE THEM IN THAT END and evaluate their MOCKERY of knowledge in a most fitting manner.
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
daddybare2002, were all those replies where you droned on and on about hazy philisopical ideas meant to be a reply to my comment? Face it- it would great if history was a series of perfectly recorded facts. However, history involves imperfect people.

Get your history right guys. Unrestricted submarine warfare as practiced by Imperial Germany was HIGHLY criticized at the time and in the end turned out to be a fatal policy as it brought in the U.S. providing the extra push that broke the German army. All this nonsense about conspiracy just shows a lack of understanding of politics. WW1 was a mutual calamity, but unrestricted sub warfare was a German policy, planned and executed by Imperial Germany.
andersedward 4 years ago
ander: I agree that the conspiracy theories are far fetched.

DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
so are you sying killing innocent men women and children is not a HEINOUS act? the germans had no right to sink that ship.
ronniecamp 4 years ago
As I said before: We only know these wome and children died by the U-20.
Think of the hundreds of women and children that died at the hands of both sides
AidanReed 4 years ago
If you are a LITERATE individual, you should know what I am saying; but, I'll restate it here for your pleasure. The Lusitania was a ship which was used to transport MUNITIONS {that means BOMBS, GUNSHELLS, USW} Itwas, therefore, a WARSHIP and the ALLIES had, absolutely, NO RIGHT to try to conceal the munitions on the ship by placing civilians of any gender or age on the ship as passengers. The only "HEINOUS" act that was performed under such circumstances was by the allies.
DaddyBare2002 4 years ago
What the hell would you do with small arms in the middle of the fucking ocean??!?!?!?!!?!?? RMS Luisitania was carrying light arms, I see, but to kill over a thousand people over some guns is out of the fucking question!!!! The captian of U-20 was given a bad name for himself because of his actions.
Adama16 4 years ago
Adama16: I won't defend the sinking of a passenger liner, though to use such a liner to transport munitions is analogous to using human shields to transport war supplies. And the German gov. did warn people that any ship sailing to England was liable to be attacked.
The British at this same time had imposed a "starvation blockade" against Germany which resulted in the death by hunger of hundreds of thousands of elderly, disabled, and children. Isn't that also a war crime?

ROYl MAIL SHIP
napsspur 4 years ago 3
It surprises me that anyone could say Lusitania was an American ship. It was British - RMS means Royal Mail Ship. She was just off the Irish coast, on the normal shipping route. It is totally unthinkable that there could have been British connivance with the Germans. There may have been some munitions aboard, but there was a lot of contraband being smuggled by both sides. Britain didn't particularly want America in the war. The US was militarily weak and couldn't offer much to the war effort.
