@ZehFiend In Japan it's different. The big guys like Misawa work stiff because they are willing to get stiffed in return. It's a show of respect for the other wrestler. When they get into the ring they are going to give all they have. The really dangerous spots as suplexes and drivers are also stiffed, but they are skilled enough to make them look devastating while still protecting the reveiver.
@ZehFiend If stiffness is used to compensate for lack of skills then I agree. But that's not the case with Misawa and Kawada, two of the best the world has ever seen (they still hold the record for having the most and second most 5*matches in their career). But aside from that...this statement about "good wrestling" came from Raven? No offence but that sure sounds odd coming from a guy who's whole career consisted of him hitting people with chairs, brawling in the crowd and hitting random DDTs.
@ESCAPEDCONVICT01 that elbow wasn't fake. Kawada fucking felt that. He certainly sold it legitimately as a real knockout blow but Puro style never holds back when it comes to strikes.
I just love how Kawada sells. You can never tell if he's selling or if he's knocked out legit.
He doesn't just fall down or jump and fall. No, he crumbles to the mat as if someone turned off the power switch in his head. Just awesome. I just watched an old TagMatch of him and Taue against Misawa and Kobashi and still can't figure out if he was just selling or out cold, because for the last 2-3 moves of Kobashi and Misawa, Kawada just seemed to be dead weight that gets tossed around.
Before I started watching japanese Wrestling I never understood why a Clothesline/Lariat could be a Finisher... But thanks to Misawa, Kawada and all the others, I love to see Strike Moves such as the Uraken, The Rolling Elbow or even an good ol Western Lariat by Stan Hansen.
BTW: This is one tough SOB Elbow Miswa was throwing there. RIP Misawa, you will be truly missed down here!!!
Yeah it was. At first i saw that and said it couldn't be the finish. But that replay, damn! This clip can't do it justice though, there was a LOT of psychology behind that last shot, cause Kawada tried everything to keep Misawa from hitting that running elbow.
kawadas face told the story...ohh.. fuck i cant feel my face!!

As raven would say, working stiff is the exact opposite of good wrestling. But to each his own.

It's pretty easy to sell something when you are legit in excruciating pain from an elbow like that.

Kawada is the master of selling moves
he sold the Emerald Frosion, western lariats, backdrops, elbows, Tiger Drivers, and last but not least the Tiger Driver 91
Mutoh3ll 3 years ago
Kawada could sell a scoop slam like it was a Burning Hammer and still make it look real.
FuckinDago 3 years ago 2
That explains Kawada's peculiar orthodontics.

he actually got his teeh knocked out by a stan hansen lariat in the early 90s. it was freakin brutal.
