A dummy was brought in to stand in place of the mummy wrapped man. They dropped the dummy moving him into place during the dialog between Micheal and John.
I love Graham's reaction here too, he doesn't look round to see what's happened but has obviously guessed. Cracks me up the way he cocks his head toward the camera at 0.53 and tries very hard to hold it together.
God that fake laughing is so obnoxious and unnecessary. Month Python needs to just cut that shit out. It's like its dictating to you when you should be laughing, give me a f'n break. I love Monty Python but goddamn that is annoying.
@osuvalpal They were moving the actor who was wrapped in bandages. When they brought in the other prop (the head of which 'Maurice' removed at the end of the sketch), the head probably fell off.
@DarthRevan1051 Apparently that was the dummy of the character on trial, falling over, after the actor became the dummy for the end of the sketch. And that's why the audience starts laughing too.

I wonder if there's any footage of filming the sketches when they had to stop because someone broke up laughing? for example in meaning of life, when Cleese had to laugh in the Mr creosote scene? I'd love to see that outtakes!
@ladylancelot500 Although, Graham was like that before the thump. I think Palin's entry whacking everything in sight already had gotten to him. I sympathize.
were they laughing at the guy when he got off the stand to put the dummy there? did he fall over or something? i hate not knowing!! lol ive watched it on dvd like 5 times & i always here the audience laughing & i CANT see it :P
& you just gotta love it when they start laughing @ stuff. it happens quite a bit actually cause they didnt have much money so they had to use the best that they had ^^
After the bang at 00:45 ...Terry Gilliam's laugh is quite visible but you can see that Michael is also having some difficulties not to laugh when he's swinging his...um...police equipment. And he's biting his lip just before the shot of wig-headed mummy at 00:54 .

@sternumagnum No, he didn't! His shadow is immobile. Something fell off camera.

what was that bang just before the laughter?
DarthRevan1051 1 year ago 8
@DarthRevan1051 I'm not sure, but I have a feeling it contributed to the breaking of character :)

@DarthRevan1051 It had to be when they replaced the real bandaged person for the fake, hollow bandaged person.

@DarthRevan1051 Knowing the whole sketch, I'd bet that the bang was caused by the head of the 'defendant' falling off.

Graham has that face he makes when he's trying not to laugh on as well. Just like when he shouts BURMA in the Penguin sketch.
Ans I agree with irnbruyum, mike is adorable when he smiles!

@ladylancelot500 Agreed, Graham succeeded on an impressive scale given how long he had to keep it up! And sitting right in front, too.

You hear the thump, I think the dummy's head fell off before they had it on correctly lol

i love it! cause it just adds on top of the extreme humor of this sketch lol

@randomloves74 That definatley IS what happened, I don't recall where I read it but you can hear the audience laughing at an offseen visual joke.
