I had a barrel very similar. axle and coil spring, but had a hard time attaching to the barrel. My design cut into the barrel and started to tear the side of the barrel. How did you attach the barrel to the spring?

I had a plate welded to the top of the coil spring after the top part of the coil was bent to flat. Had a duplicate plate made with matching holes. Cut into the back of the barrel so that I could atattch both plates one inside and one outside that is on the spring. Use your inside plate to mark holes on the outside to put bolts through. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I have a coil spring and I have been stretching to make it MORE springy..... My Grandson is 4 and weighs about 65lbs. I am not using a 55 gal barrel.... I am gonna use something smaller. But I want it to be springy enough to give him a good time. Thanks for the info. I like the axle hub idea too.

@Cowboytroyb1 Its a front end coil spring that was welded with a flat piece of steel to the top to mount to the barrel. It spins on an axel hub that the spring was welded to. Hope that helps. I kind of just went to a pull it parts and told them what I wanted to do and they said use this and this. You have to make sure to get a heavy duty coil spring so that the rider does not bend the spring too easily.
