  • I was dancing, here in the vally of Texas, in the late 1940s(LOL) now I'm an old 67 yo fart and I love what this guys are doing with this -CHICANO-music. Chicano comes form us and is a derivative

the Native Mechica an early pre- Aztecan race. O.K. Kids. Thank you Cris and Antonio

I got to see some of this guys in concert here in S. Texas.

  • Amazing:)

    congratulations:)

  • Chris Strachwitz is my hero! I routinely listented to his Sunday broadcasts over KPFA years ago and miss the old show where he showcased some of his own fabulous recordings on Arhoolie.

The July 4th weekend is time to celebrate Chris' birthday, too!

Here is a man who is so deserving of a National Treasure award of some sort. There are only a handful of folks doing such work these days.

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, CHRIS!

  • This is awesome but please Chicano to many Hispanics including me is a put down. Use Latino or other words to describe anything to do with Mexican heritage. Chicano/Xicano is a word that derives from Nahuatl originally used to describe outcasts of the Mexica empire.

  • You got it twisted Mr. His-panic ! Chicano is a beautiful word that we gave "ourselves" to self identify with our indegenous heritage. Chicano will never be synonymous with your government issued generic label. Do your homework !

  • So do u enjoy going around beating people down when they are missinformed. Looks like u and the government and the mass media have alot in common. If I am wrong there are ways of correcting people and informing people. All you do by beating people down is make enemies and no one learns anything

  • Chicanos are what we are, hispanic is just an easy way of trying to label us all as one, we are different culturally from other hispanics.

    lowrod

  • Well whether you believe me or not Chicano has another meaning. Plus a Chicano is someone who was born in America with Mexican parents. After the first generation a Hispanic is no longer a Chicano since he and his family would have assimilated into the culture. look that up in Cultural Geography. Chicano is someone who was born in America with Mexican parents. After the first generation a Hispanic is no longer a Chicano since he and his family would have assimilated into the culture.

  • This is important work digitizing and sharing these great old recordings.

  • cool... but i would get bored out of my mind doing that...
