  • Ah how I wish not to be judged based on where I was born.

It wasn't my fault I was born in America, yet most people outside of America will think ill of me.

  • ...this is great man! very informative...and fair! this is justice to racism!

  • Im Filipino, been residing in Manila several months at a time, few months back in UK where I was born and raised, for the past several years now, I can speak the language, but people still look at me differently when they find out I was born abroad..go figure lol Interesting vid

  • I hope they like Finns more than English-speaking countries. ^_^

  • Hey i just got back from Japan. Seems like nobody speaks english. If you dont speak Japanese which you should then your enjoyment will only be so good. People are friendly though nowhere as openly friendly as the US.

  • not only are americans the worst in other countries but they perpetuate the worse stereotypes about other races, especially asians and asian women. thanks for not doing that. your honesty and sincerity about japan actually showed how much you truly appreciate the culture... thanks for the great insight.

  • hey dude, informative video thankyou. Im from Aus to and was planning to move to japan due to my nationality being half japanease, i wanted to learn more about my mothers culture. do you reckon Japanease will be more accepting towards me or should i expect the same "gaijin" attitude that they give all foreigners?

  • @KeanBreh I did a video about half Japanese, look at it on my channel..

If you speak the language you'll be fine, in many ways you'll get 'special treatment' and possibly even asked to do 'talent' work;modeling etc. Pays well man.

  • @KeanBreh It's pretty pronounced. My friends who are half-Japanese had rocks pelted at them when they went to visit as children. The culture in Japan is very homogeneous. I've grown up in California, so mixed race meetings are normal. It would probably be similar as to visiting a small mostly White town in Midwestern America.

  • ahhh everything you said is true of foreigners in Japan!!! You hit it spot on.

  • @halimarie LOL, thanks.. you're not Aussie by any chance at all??

  • Loool. This is so funny. although i feel you man. Thanks for shoring your story with us. Very insightful.

  • Damn, you showed those racist mofos. Must be hard living in a country like that.

  • i hate when people think im American, just cause your white everyone automatically thinks you're American... im freaking Italian! L'Italia!!!!

  • What would be your advice for those who want to make a life in Japan?

  • @wicreed Be clean and polite, pay close attention to your appearance and your attitude.

  • Sorry i mean i have no Japanese descent.

  • I am Asian but not Asian it would still be hard for me in Japan. Because they would see me as very pro Westerner.

  • Lol south side. I got the south side of Chicago.

Yeah, thanks for this video. You've made the best and most unbiased video about being a gaijin in Japan.

  • A normal human being can't stand living in such a racist country like Japan.

  • Why you hating on English teachers? Some people enjoy teaching language.

  • @0AfterMath yeah, you misinterpreted what I'm saying for sure.

  • @0AfterMath he is right ,so shut up and listen to this guy

Im surprised ,i seems Australian folks are much more descent then Americans

  • This is one of the best videos that I have seen on youtube regarding life in Japan as a gaijin.

  • : O im shock.

  • The problem with being black is you get racism from the white foreigners and the Japanese which makes being black more fucked up.

  • @thugangel662 Thanks for mentioning that cuz I'm considering going to Japan next year. I felt that in my gut.

  • South side lol well I am an American fro California and I agree with you us Americans have done lots of bad and it's hard to find the good people lucky for me my family is very traditional Mexican so were good

  • Great video dude

  • This just proves that rascism exist EVERYWHERE. When an outcast person or someone different is among a huge group of other different people then they get treated differently. The same in U.S...Imagine this guy was Asian living in the U.S where white and black people make up the majority of population. They get treated like shiet and face racism.

  • "South side motherfucker," Lmao.... I lol'd. And I'm from the south side of the U.S. xD

  • i wanted to go to japan. but bein american, it would ruin my trip havin half a country hate me ya know? cant say i blame them.

  • "In a few years in England and America whites will be a minority"

    Please don't remind me.

  • i really enjoyed you insight about a racist japan i found it so so interesting. i found your rant about foreigners who teach there native language in japan so funny because everyone i know who teaches in japan are straight douche bags. not to offend but i do think there are different levels of racism and it just seems not that bad compared to other places. besides your feelings being hurt foreigners lives dont seems to be in danger.

  • I've always been interested in the japanese language and have heard similar stories about their way of thinking from one of my teachers (I'm French), and I have to admit that this is really scary. The way they consider foreigners. I guess it's something that can be found in any country, but in Japan it just seems stronger.

There ary many videos about racism in Japan, but yours is really good coz you've got your business there, there is no bullsh*t. Thanks for all the tips.

  • HAHA i always play spot the white guy when im in london =) i thought it was only me and my brother lol

  • All good points here . I'm black and for the time I was in Japan I had know problem with Japanese people. I think Japanese people are chill ass people to get to know. Now me I came to Japan with an open mind ,but I have seen videos of black people that come to Japan and make and ass out of themselves. I think coming to Japan you have to really set yourself apart from the stereotypes of a foreigner,LIKE NOT COMMING TO JUST TEACH ENGLISH and also come knowing some type of conversational Japanese.

  • You make really good points mainly the part about people taking money and leaving, that would make me double check also. Another thing is that people get mad at me because I don't speak their language no matter how hard I try to understand them. How am I wrong. I'm born and raised in the states(Mostly NY) what I don't like is when people come from other countries set up shop exc. and then tell us we can't shop there because of what we look like I just think it's wrong.

  • lol "what state are you from. I am from the state with kangaroo's"

If your white, japanese just assume your american. Although I can understand why americans are everywhere.

  • @nyannyan123456 That's why I keep some Canadian flag stickers everywhere I go for my luggage. lol

  • @nyannyan123456 just find a way tell people and this guy in vid. yes, japanese are racist a bit because of many american guys are big muscle and they wear clothes that make them look tough than japanese skinny and small. make sense? I advice when you guys go to japan just wear humble so they will feel safety to welcome you with them.

  • @nyannyan123456 Why are americans everywhere?

  • i like this video. keep it raw.

  • As an Asian that shit is fuck up! Japanese Culture! Jesus Effin' Christ!

Good Video Man! You provide a good glimpse of the life of an white expat in Japan expose from a bit of prejudice. From my experience racism is just pure stupidity! The best you can do is ignore or make them look stupid. Take care man! More power to ya!

  • this video is awesome." south side mothafucker, im from Austrialia." priceless

  • @harleyqslovechild88 South Side Represent :D

  • Natural, unforced integration can be a very beautiful thing.

  • fuck violence! After I bash someone I feel I harmed someones son father or husband. i imagine their loved ones crying when they see the lesions. i'm a doctor for christsake. but i am also a father of 2so when someone endangers me they endanger my children so i'm takin them out. trouble is,i've taken it overboard sometimes just out of adrenaline. that's bad bc breaking bones or harming vital organs can land u legal troubles. everybody please pray 4me so these2 guys don't fight me or kick my ass.

  • I'm korean-puerto rican. i've lived inPR, US and Mexivo. Most animosity has been here in PR. i hate fuckers always tryin to start shit. i began kicking ass once i learned the psychological game and to strike first. i even learned to smile seconds B4throwing. it aids in the element of surprise. i hardly use haymakers anymore. i've used 1 in the past 8 or 9 years. the short focused blows don't put guys lights out but u connect more. and each little stunning blow helps u get in the next one.

  • In my opinion, racism shows a lack of wisdom and character. The Japanese that are prepared to accept me (provided I make an effort) are cool. The ones that hate me just because I'm a big white dude, can blow me.

  • @maxINaus we share the same opinion ;-)

  • Totally agree with ya. I've got lots of foreigner buddies who have REAL jobs in Japan. One of our biggest pet peeves is to be associated with the perpetual English teacher Gaijin population who are just here to be a bum forever and cause trouble. They mess it up for the people who are genuinely interested in the culture and people of Japan.

Also agreed on the racism. Japan's racism is somewhat subtle. You're just always on the 'outside' of Japanese society, never a part of it.

  • About 2 and a half years ago, you told me to learn how to be Majime and said to ask my mrs about it..

Ever since that day, I can honestly say, pretty much my whole lifestyle changed. From Hygiene to attitude. I am not saying I am a perfect foreigner or anything, but in Japan, I work hard nearly every day to show anyone I come in contact with from my mrs Dad to a store clerk that I am trying to be Majime and respect Japanese ways.

This is how I do my part. as little as it may be.

  • Insightful vlog. Once offered you kudos for running a business in Japan bx I know how hard that is. I lived there for 2.5 years, started teaching English but then moved to my profession. Agree that a lot of the racism is explicable by history, lack of effort from foreigners and many bad apples. But all countries have bad immigrants. IMHO Japanese racism runs too deep, even if there are reasons. I couldn't live long term in a place that wd never accept me as an equal. Just my op.

  • @CNCTEMATIC 100% agreed. I travel a lot, so I have the 'venting' periods on the regular.. lol

What I will say, is that I don't plan to be here forever ;-)

  • Racism is racism, but there are different degrees and surely, you must acknowledge that you would get treated generally better than a black person.

  • @jstele no i dont.

I had in-laws that found out my grandfather was 'black' and stopped talking to me. But in general no.

I have a lot of black friends here both from America, Canada and Africa (all parts). They have all made something of themselves and are doing an awesome job here.. one of my good friends 'RhymingGaijin' here on youtube is another that refuses to be a stereo type and I'm very proud to call him my friend. Please check him out :-)

  • @LukeHollowayTV Is your grandpa an aborigine? You would get treated better than a black person. Come on. Generally speaking.

  • @jstele he is polynesian.

Generally Speaking.. I stand by what I've said.

    :-)

  • @LukeHollowayTV What kind of Polynesian? Polynesian isn't black.

  • @jstele If it will help you sleep better - Tongan.

and here there is Japanese, Blacks, Whites and 'Asians' as in SE Asians (Philo, Thai etc).

So Here they consider it the same thing. Fact.

  • the motherfucker who spit near you was a retard, i mean wtf, he doesn't even know you.

  • @WavesOfTrolls he just 'knows' that I'm here 'invading' his country or some shit.. hahahaha, yeah man... I'm over it though, if I let shit like that get to me I'd never be able to do business here.. at the end of the day, I can easily see who be the stronger man ;-)

  • Japan is over 96% homogeneous, you'll expect standard racism. Wait until over 45% of Japanese are mixed folks. It will take long time.

  • we, asians, kinda get discriminated too in canada. they call us chinks or things like that.

  • @WavesOfTrolls yeah but you get called that everywhere. Same in Australia... Racism is everywhere.. I understand that. And it sucks, it's simply not acceptable on ANY level.. But I'm just trying to give and insight of what it's really like in Japan from the point of view of someone that lives here..

  • @LukeHollowayTV i think everyone gets used to it. it's not like they stab me or something. that would be quite bad.

  • I can absolutely relate to your video, I remember when my parents first moved

here from China, I was the only Chinese kid at school and also the only Chinese family in the entire local area. So I know exactly how you feel.

From my perpective the best way to combat racism is to raise a good profile and

be an active part of the community.

Anyway, good vid and happy new year.

  • @z3160200 well said, totally agree :-)

  • To my knowledge some of the racism in Japan is a product of Western nations treatment of Japan in the past. Japan was the first nation to ask for all races being treated as equals during the meeting of League of Nations after WW1. They got vetoed by some Western powers, this contributed to paranoia, nationalism and an arms race resulting in WW2. Ending with nukes and flooding a traumatized nation with Western ideals. Raping the collective mind of a people will create negative after affects.

  • is the EDC video coming up with all these ur reelin out?

  • @minicrop yes :-)

but it was 16mins.. so have to figure out how to chop it up.. sorry, it's taking a while but I'm on it :-)

  • @LukeHollowayTV cool, dont apologise dude cuz you're a busy guy

  • Hmm, I was wondering, how do the Japanese treat Europeans?

  • @Infernalziom do you think they look at a white guy and say 'Yes, I think he's European'???

To them, we all look the same.. true story.

I can spot a Brit, Aussie, European, Canadian and of course an American a mile a way with fashion, walk, awareness.. but not the Japanese man.. If you're European, best way is to come and find out yourself :-)

  • sound pretty bad ... kinda like Poland hehe except part with the train i know is bad but... must be funny 2 watch :) ;] how about language is hard 2 learn?? is it a lot words whit double meanings and stuff like that??

  • @ixeqilibrium wasn't hard to learn for me but Japanese was my forth Language.. there are those double meanings but you have that in English too ;-)

If you want to learn it you'll learn it :-)

  • Few things that bothers me is that When people talk about their heritage and call it Race, being white black asian is not different race's its just genetic and cultural back ground. There is only one race of human, And that's Human.

and as an American i hate it when i go into other country's and people blame me for the bad shit that's happened or assume im into hip hop or am a cowboy type. America is like 50 small country's rolled into one and it is annoying getting stereotyped.

  • @HowlsFury I agree. Like I said, the fastest growing 'Race' is the human race :-)

I get stereo typed here too man, like I said 'What part of the states are you from!?' not cool.. lol

But there's not much I can do about it.. I've learned that letting all this get to you won't get you anywhere.. you can't change everyone-else's attitude but you CAN change your own ;-)
