Wooooooooo, chyeah...go get 'em, Mr. Matt! Uploaded on my 20th b-day and a couple days ago marked 6 months since my 21st. People should be flocking here this month!
who is this crowd of apathetic 30-something-year-old hipsters? if matt berninger was raging in the crowd to one of the national's most epic songs i'd be mobbing him and raging with him like people normally do at every national concert
@mogospetrica I heard them live yesterday and they sounded amazing, the video doesn't capture his voice that well. When he jumped down into the crowd I HUGGED him. The show was the definition of epic. UUgh just getting goosebumps thinking about it now!
YouTube viewers are as a rule too obsessed with observing crowds. Just because a person is standing still, maybe moving to the music subtly, listening intently, doesn't mean they're BORED or HATE THE BAND or are an ASSHOLE, you know what I mean? Not everyone feels the need to thrash about to prove how much they're "feeling it."
I don't think they were bored. If you look at the audience, there seemed to be a lot of older people. Not that I'm saying older people can't dance to music, but it seems to be a more intimate affair.
This song reminds me of my early childhood when I was 6 years old and I showed up in a new country wearing my best clothes and carrying a briefcase to school. haha and even in my best clothes it didnt matter.. it took a while to fit in.
Not magic....if you listen closely you can hear something goes south on his paul and you can very discreetly and quickly see him do a switch while the other guitarist looks over to see what is up. I hear a lot of feedback, I think they had sound issues that night.
@TubularSoundSystem yeah, I know, but I've never seen it happen during a song. I just didn't notice anything but he probably broke a string or something
it isn't the crowd, it's the venue. BAM is an opera house with tiered seating and a balcony. i've seen them there before, and it's more about the way they sound and experiencing the intricacies of their songs in a space built to convey such things, as opposed getting hammered and losing your sh*t to them at a regular box-shaped club venue. regardless, it's worth it to catch them in either atmosphere. it isn't the crowd, it's the venue. so chill.
the national rifle, NOT the national, are playing in dallas. as someone who just spent over $200 to go to oklahoma for 6 hours for the sole purpose of seeing them live, i don't appreciate the heart attack your link nearly gave me. please correct this!
if matt did that at the show i watched he would have been crushed. This crowd is just lame (not saying i want matt to be crushed but you know our crowd got into it)
@sonic777111 at :27, you hear come crazy nasty feedback...then his brother, the other guitar, player gives him "the look" at :29, then at :38, you see him unmuting his signal chain to play the blue fender. i was trying to figure out through the first or second time watching it, too...
they need to hire me as their singer, I can reproduce their album quality vocals to a T without fail live, apparently he can't sing worth a shit live, which is funny considering the National's vocals are as easy as they come.
@lol13715 honestly, shut the fuck up, when I hit a concert for a band I love, I let loose, I dance! That's how you respond to the music, bobbing and smiling is social anxiety, afraid to move the way you want to move, it's not a natural response. music will die when the crowd stops moving.
I love how he tries to reach as much of the crowd as possible. You think he's getting back on stage, and he's like "Nope, didn't get to these people over there!" Did the same in Dallas, and we went wild!
Hey just wondering what you guys do when people look at you funny for walking down the street singing " I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders"??
They played this song yesterday in Utrecht. He went through the crowd. But he isn't the tallest person around (dutch crowd 6,4ft is pretty normal) so practically nobody could see where he went. Most assumed he was just a couple of feat before the stage, so three chicks near the exit got the shit scared right out of them when he suddenly popped/rampaged up on the other side of the crowd, they didn't know how to react. So had a good laugh.
I want to high five the guy at 0:09 - 0:13. You can tell he loved the whole gig, camera kept showing him to make up for the people who just stood there like :|
Yeh, me too, don't think they knew how lucky they were, this is special stuff, Ive seen them twice & cant wait to see them in Glasgow later this year.
There was NO sign of Red Hot's presence except the VERY brief mention onstage by the band... MEANWHILE AMEX was whoring itself all over the venue... private amex parties all over, not ONE Red Hot brochure to be found. If you want to give your part of the ticket sales to Red Hot, that's a GREAT thing, but don't blur the Amex promo gigs with what could otherwise be a true fundraising event. I walked out of the show not seeing ONE Red Hot logo, BUT I can DEFINITELY describe an Amex ZYNC logo.
@7thFallFromSanity - Agreed. There's only guy reacting the way they all should be and he even spoils that by looking like Buster from Arrested Development.
@7thFallFromSanity ,Have you ever felt pure and utter love oozing from a person like a lightning bolt, this is whats happening here, images of John Lennon,LOVE mesmerised all of them, all they want to do is touch him, feel the love oozing from his aura, these guys dont need to have crazed crowds, they already have what it takes to take people to the other realm of existance. This isnt a dead crowd this is pure magick..MUCH LOVE~Vlada~aka Rayvhenwing
@7thFallFromSanity At least they weren't chatty like the crowd at the show I went to :\ When the band closed w/ an unplugged version of Vanderlyle, it took the crowd almost a minute to figure out they needed to quiet down. Lots of people who were just there with friends, not really into the band.
I love everything that The National do, but it's songs like this (and "Slipping Husband" or "Available") which really define this band for me. So much raw energy. I love that Matt goes all the way to the back of the room carried in the arms of his cheerleaders/fans.
