One of friends worked in upstate NY at one time. When their family were in the mall, guess who were watched by people around them with a strange look ... yes, the family are chinese. It was a reverse situation as you were in China :p

You will have much less of chance of getting the strange look in New York where all kinds of people come and go.

@cvaguy I have many skills, talents, abilities, education, etc. None of it has ever made me a desirable employee. There really isn't much of a job market anymore, and pretty much everything I learned in school was obsolete or based on an illusion.

I find I'm too much of everything. Too girly, too manly, too pretty, not pretty enough. Too fat, to thin, too tall too short. Too smart, overqualified, or too overqualified.

I'm just fed up w/living up to the expectations of others.

Just be happy that you *can* speak another language. You make it sound like learning or knowing Chinese and not being Chinese is something to be ashamed of. There are some people that can't grasp different languages than their own.

Well, on You Tube, when I make videos like that I get all kinds of complaints, because people in Europe can speak multiple languages semi-fluently.

The meanest people are the ones whom study Hebrew because their parents made them.

I'm italian and I used to speak chinese quite fluently, both european and chinese people used to stare at me, but I wouldn't say it's weird or annoying, it's just natural.. we would be weird if we were surprised because they get surprised.. isn't it..

Well, sometimes it's weird... if someone says something about me, and i know they're insulting me, I tease them. Then they feel bad, like they lost face. So, I make a joke to make them feel better. Sounds, weird, but i've made friends that way. Chinese stuff is often backwards to me. {:-?

i think i might understood that. i think people all will pay attention to something they felt interesting. for me, i went aborad for study, but when i was in my hometown, which is a small city in middle of China, whenever i did something with my British teacher in public, people are all stared at us,such like we are animals dress like human. Even i finished studying with him and go home alone, people saw we beofer are still stared at me and keep large distance~ I TOTALLY CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!
