  • Has to be my favorite song, ever.

  • Never bothered listening to this cos I assumed it was some backwards left over nothingness like that without shoes stuff bonus track from donkeys years ago. More fool me, cos even on a muddy demo this sounds like vintage Roses, love those dark lyrics, love Ian's voice here.

I can see the similarities with other tunes but this would still have made a great b-side in the tradition of mersey paradise or going down. Still about a million times better than bollocks like tears or good times.

  • this song is being played for the 7th time in a row now.

    fuck it's so good

  • This band i will remember for the rest of my life! Certainly changed me as a man. What a tune this is!!

  • @shebangsthedrums1000 Their back!!!! :)

  • @STFCstoneroses Cant wait for them to get their material back out! LIVE RESURRECTION!

  • Although I think if it got the proper treatment it could be pretty cool

  • Best thing about this is the name!

  • no comment for a Month xD?

  • I LOVE the Roses, but have to say I can see (or should that be hear) why this wasn't released.

    It's not a patch on Sugar Spun Sister. . . now THAT''S a Roses tune. . .

  • wow. i'm so glad i bought the lost demos album or i would never have come across this beautiful song.

  • What an absolute hidden gem this track is -.-

  • this is my fave roses song and ive heard them all. absolute genius. the ending is similar to shoot you down - that and the similarity to SSS seems to have vetoed it. but taken on its own merit its pure genius - a masterpiece.

  • This sounds a lot like "By My Side" but without the magical reversal in the end. Still class mate, much better than anything on "Second Cumming"

  • so the songs about being a bad swimmer and drowning.. but in a poetic way

  • there is a very similar comparison to sugar spun sister in this song but there is also likenesses to made of stone, ten storey love song among others... the song is just so typically roses...

  • This is really great! I never knew about it, wow, they were so great then, sounds like something from Turns into stone, which for me is like the debut album part 2.

  • Damn Silvertone for killing the Roses in their pomp. What would it have been like if they had been able to release a follow up to the Stone Roses in 90 or 91?

Even on a dodgy demo the magic is there for everyone to hear.. class vocal and melody. "Let me die, Jesus, Jesus let me die" - I can't get it out of my head

  • I was 19 in 1989 the Roses blew me away then and they still do it now, even with a dodgy demo! Ian gets a lot of shit for his voice, but his plaintive tones on this are just magical, and Reni`s percussion is spot on again. If they could write like this again, I`d pay for the reunion myself. Brilliant.

  • "the shadows crept along the beach, another boy was out of reach" brilliant! I was 19 in 1989, they blew me away then, and they`ve just done it again with this demo. Ian gets shit for his voice, but the plaintive tones on this track are perfect. Also, the percussion is perfectly judged by Reni (again). A cracking song. I cant get the melody out of me head.

  • I am a massive roses fan, they are probably my favourite band just to let you know, but i seriously think all you lot cant even compare this to sugar spun sister ? sugar spun sister is actually quite uplifting compared to this, not that i dislike this song i dont, this is an amazing tune, but you cant compare this with sugar spun sister, sugar spun sister i believe is the greatest song ever in our lifetime. My opinion anyway

  • fuck me ,im stone roses till i die and i aint never heard this till now, teckle tune. fukin love LOVE the roses.

  • anyone have the lyrics to this?

  • this has the sound that made me fall in love with the roses way back then,,, loving this was found,, just hope theyres more to be found in future

  • Very dark. I do prefer the very early roses stuff

  • Wonder why they didn't include this one on the album. Hauntingly beautiful.

  • Reminds me of Phil Spector type recordings with a bit of Jam for good measure

  • chords seem to be G, Em7(?), C, D, constantly rotated if anyones interested.

A full version of this would have been immense.

  • That Em7 should be Bm with F# in the root.

Also the progression changes for the last bit. I'm at work now so can't work it out but from memory it goes G, Bm/F#, Em and then G, Am, D - or something like that.

  • thanks, man. i can hear it now - no idea where the Em7 came from.

  • Sounds like an early verison of Sugar Spun Sister?

  • all of two minutes later, i really like it. Great lyric (Browns massively underrated), and a great bassline.

  • sounds sort of 87/88 era, before they really hit their stride. Reminds me of "the sun still shines".

    Quite nice.

  • sounds possible as a mid 1980s stone roses song, but is def lacking for debut material.

  • actually i think the dark and cold wanting more line is "Dark and cold wanting warm"

  • cont... All alone on my own Dark and cold wanting more Fighting waves that kept me from the shore I climbed and fell and tried again I slipped and tripped and fell back in And thunder flashed across the sky My screams were drowned and so will I, so why? Let me die, Jesus Jesus let me die Drop the sky, let me die This is the end, my end This is my end, this is the end This is the end, this is the end
  • this my interpritation of the lyrics: I need my pillow in the sea I'm frozen with this company Can't find my friends where can they be? The lights lit up a thousand homes The neon signs were blinking back But no one heard me as I cried I couldn't see, sand in my eyes The noise I made drowned out the tide But no one came I was all alone The shadows crept along the beach Another boy was out of reach Our lungs filled up with salts and it's screams
  • @Kadzzz1 Thanks for posting! Cant believe no ones posted the lyrics to this gem. Amazing track!

  • My lungs filled up with salts and the treens?

  • all very marchchain

  • "My lungs filled up with suds and it screams"?

  • ...filled up with salt?

  • @Andrew077 'salt and screams'

  • Instead of "Amongst the mud" I'm sure it's saying "My lungs filled up" and then I can't tell if the next bit is right although it does sound like "sods....."

  • I think it's my screams were drowned.

  • Think your right!

  • thunder flashed across the sky,my dreams were drowned and so will i,so why?

  • Part 3

    Drop the sky,

    Let me die,

    This is the end,

    My end,

    This is my end,

    This is the end,

    This is the end,

    This is the end.

  • I couldnt see, sand in my eyes The noise i made drowned out the tide But no one came i was all alone The shadows crept along the beach And now the boy was out of reach Amongst the mud with sods and the twigs * All alone,on my own, dark and cold, wanting more, fighting waves That kept me from the shore I climbed and fell,i tried and when i slipped and tripped and fell back in and thunder flashed across the sky,my dreams were junk and so will i,so why? * Let me die,Jesus,Jesus, let me die
  • "Wanting more, biting waves"? I hope it is "biting", it's much better!

  • Lyrics,to the best of my ability (had to listen to the song about 30 times on my ipod!),lines followed by a * im not 100% sure on what he is saying but ive put the words most closest to what it sounds like and in the spirit of the song and what a song this is,really sad!

    I need my pillow,why the sea? *

    Im frozen with this company

Cant find my friends, where can they be?

The lights lit up the frozen homes

The neon signs were blinking back

But no one hear me as i cry

    cont...............

  • I Felt i needed .

    like somehow i wanted ,

like somehow i desired something left undesired ....

i will always adore the roses til kingdom come forevermore .....

this is the best ever .... it this does not get the best of you !?!?!?! than what will ??? what will ???? ....

cheers , dear brothers and sisters .... LONG LIVE THE STONE ROSES !

    IAN , JOHN , MANI , RENI ,,,,, FOREVER !!!!

  • How beautiful is this tune! great just great this was worth the £100.00 I paid for the 20th Anniversary edition alone... pure class

  • can somebody work the chords out on guitar for me please???!!! i can play sugar spun sister its just i is tone def

  • It's the same chords as in Sugar Spun, only that's played without the capo on the 2nd fret.

  • nice one fella, cheers muchly

  • Simple and brilliant. Way better than any of Ian Brown's solo stuff.

  • Beautiful song. Love the bass line, pure feeling.

btw, it's the same chord progression as in Sugar spun Sis!

  • Beautiful

  • Really gorgeous. I've been saving me pennies for the £100 20th edition. Should be able to get it next month.

  • fkn gold,..so happy i found this,..cant beleive i never heared this, its like hearin the album again, and just gettin it first time you hear it,..and i love the bass,..

  • I had the opportunity to ask Mani last night why this track was never released & all he simply said he didn't know & hadn't heard it even mentioned since they'd recorded it.

I personally think (and did put it to him) that maybe it was because of the slight similarity to Sugar Spun Sister. It's such a lovely track, i'm just glad it's finally got out there & always welcome any previously unheard Roses tracks......even the reverse ones.

  • lucky guy,Mani's a geezer and i would love a pint with him,and yeah,it does so much does have "spun sister"in there, same chords in it,i think...and findin this is like findin a £20 note down the back of the sofa,...lol...."tune"

  • Beautiful maaan, i love this band from the bottom of my heart and soul.

  • fukking stunning old track,, cant believe its been unavaiable til now,,,,,,, I HOPE THEYRES ANOTHER HIDN GEM FOR THE 25TH,,,,,THE 30TH ,,SO AND SO ON,, AS A HUGE FAN,,I NEAR CREAMED IN MY SCANTS OVER THIS

  • so cool, i love it :)

  • just heared this 4 first time an feel like crying, top tune!!!

  • Wow this is fcking rare, I love this song!

  • better than Stellify.

  • no shit.

  • i couldn't see sand in my eyes, the noise i made drowned out the tide, but no one came, i was all alone. what a stunning song browns voice is amazing

  • Was actually hoping for a guitar laden track!!! Still a belter though! Thanks for uploading!

  • thank you for uploading this!!!

  • It sounds like a cross between Sugar Spun Sister and Your Time Will Come - which they performed in '87 a few times but never recorded.

  • The melody reminds me of sugar spun sister, probably evolved into that from this

  • Great tune, love it. Gonna buy the collectors edition of the release

  • a sorrowful contemplative waltz - like two reverent Lovers dancing slow, both drowned in waves...

  • I'm not convinced, sounds like the Ian Brown of today.

  • god, everytime i listen to this song i love it more and more, its a belter

  • Great work Andrew077 for putting this up. I saw them loads of times and never heard them play this one. It sounds like they wrote this and then broke it up, using the different bits for other songs.

  • fucked if im gonna pay 40 euros for an album i must have imprinted in my mind!

  • yeah it does sound like sugar spun sister but its the roses but why is the 20th speical thing 30 quid i love the band but thats a pretty penny

  • this does deffo sound like sugar spun sister, great song tho, i love ians vocals

  • Do you think this got turned into Sugar Spun Sister?

  • No Sugar Spun Sister was written way back in 1986.

  • Not bad reminds me of "this is the one" and "where angels play".

  • This music makes me feel young.

  • i like this alot wonder when its from though?
