This has gotta be about 20 +/- years ago but I remember a basement fire in a "taxpayer" in Melrose where they and other depts. dicked with it for too long and Boston came I believe on the 3rd or 4th alarm and got in there and knocked the majority of it down in 15 minutes. Water on the seat is still the best way. Windows are for it to vent from.
Can't play catch up with these. Lotsa aimless wandering.Yeah that;s it at 5:35, push that fire right back in. Total cluster fuck...get in and get it. PLenty of manpower...just don't know what to do with it.
Where I live and work we see this kinda thing all the time older balloon frame construction houses some even converted into a 3 or 4 apartment dwelling, old aluminum wiring multiple roofs, I wasnt there so Im not going to critique what is on the video but the main this that nobody was injured and all our brothers made it home to their loved ones....property can be replaced lives cant
Terrible performance, you guys dropped the ball. I'll just few it as "we where not on top of our game today" kind of video since every one as an off day.. i guess...
Stay safe
P.S: Seen some knocking of vollies, I have seen volunteer dept's out perform career more then once and i have seen them look clueless(like this video).
it looks like the fire bypassed the second floor and skipped right into the attic. also it seems wierd that in some parts of this video, the firefighters arent putting water on the fire and it's just spreading to other parts of the house. Yeah i know, im not a firefighter so i dont know the routine yadda yadda and they need to vent the roof, but it seems like they're just letting the fire grow and not spraying water on it which makes me wonder a bit.
Thank you for the info. Being in FL I didn't know exactly where they are located, just that they look like a volunteer department in the video. I had always heard the career departments in MA were generally quite good. Guess everyone has an off day. Be safe!
@icefireguy No, Melrose MA is career. Most of the fire departments in the metro Boston area are career. There are volunteer departments in Massachusetts, but not any that I know of around Boston. If I am incorrect about that, I am sure some one will be quick to correct me !!! :-)
@icefireguy Also, in case you care (apologies if you don't) some videos on youtube that you see such as Mattapan, Dorchester, Roxbury, Roslindale etc. actually are within the City of Boston and are covered by them. Many towns due to dense population butt against each other, and are metro Boston and are paid such as Watertown, Newton, Revere, Saugus, Milton, Quincy, Braintree, Malden, Melrose, Wakefield, Weymouth and the list goes on. I am not aware of a vol dept within 10 miles of Boston.
Great video coverage, thanks for sharing.

Exposures in multiple non-adjacent quadrants of the house on one floor and then skipping the second floor to the attic. Very unusual fire.

I guess they haven't been trained on the fine art of ventilation. Maybe FF-2 class.
