  • Hi Adam. Thank you very much for your videos, they help me a lot. You´re a very good teacher!!! I was wondering: do you have a lesson on how to do the full step bend on the 2 draw? I´m sorry, maybe you already posted that lesson and I just haven´t found it yet. Greets, Holger

  • @troubadix123: I do. google: gussow tradebit bending 2 draw

  • @KudzuRunner: I got it. Thanks a lot. Can´t wait to check it out!

  • @KudzuRunner: And another thank you:-) Got the fullstep. Great lesson.

  • I think I got it, Can't thank you enough for responding.

  • in the key of g the flat7 is an e or f

  • @ArtofDreaming1: It's two half-steps down from the G. That's F#, then F. It's an F. The E is a major sixth.

  • Hi Adam. 3 hole draw-difficult to achieve that blue third! I messed with the reed on my seydel 1847 and that made things a little easier but in the end it was my technique that sucked. After two weeks I finally found the correct mouth and tongue shape to get it. It is very 'precise'. I know already when I have mastered using it easily it will add so much to my playing- Thanks.

  • i get it know, i actually knew it from playing guitar, but I never linked it to the term 'Blue Third'.

  • I turned on a tuner to MBH lesson for bending the 3 draw and it showed the blue 3rd to be a sharp B flat.

  • This is a really fantastic lesson from a guy who'se both a gifted teacher and harp player :-) Thanks Adam

  • Guitarists called this "smeared up" note a grace bend - a highly important bend!.

  • i just noticed something unexpected today. i have been working on my "blue third" and using the bending excersies from MBH that Adam sells. for whatever reason I decided to not use my tongue, and i was able to bend without it, using only my throat i guess. interesting enough i was having trouble with 3 draw whole step and two draw whole step, but using only my throat i can

  • ge adam

  • Adam, let me prematurely congratulate you to 10'000 subscribers.

I'm hoping for some special video to celebrate the special occasion.

    May I suggest something?

Let your subscribers compose or tab riffs/solos/melody lines/lyrics for a MBH theme song.

The song could, for example, be revealed 1 chorus at a time as a 1-min intro to 5 MBH lessons.

We compose it, you perform it! =D

  • 5+++

  • harmonica is fun but i prefer the piano, i think i just dont have the lung power to play harmonica

  • John Malkovich?

  • when I bend, I don't use my tongue at all. Is that wrong? I can't really explain how I do it, I kinda draw with my mouth real tight

  • Jesus well done spontanioussly singing in that key. OUCH

  • A fascinating insight.

    Thank you. :)

  • thank you john malkovich

  • HAHAHAHA

  • yes, great work

  • "...The Blues is that laughing to keep from crying" ... that's what a great teacher does: not just teach you the lesson, he tells you where it all comes from. Thanks again Adam, i'm nearer to hit that valuable Blue 3rd

  • Excellent lesson IMHO. I like the way you explain things with both hands on and comparative reference to other musical works. I also like the way you often dispel common misnomers.

  • it's really hard to me bending the notes! it's quite difficult. but not in all the wholes is the same. For me is easier if I do that in the 1st whole or in the 4th

  • It's the note that tends to loosen the bowels!

  • Adam, You're super. I am amazed by your talent for one, but mostly by your interest in passing playing tips for us . Very generous a Great Musician indeed.

  • Wow! it was just like a poem, but what did He say in the last row? ..?..and euphoria.

sorry, I am not a native english :)

    Thanks

  • despair and euphoria

  • My favorite note is the brown third, but it's rarely used....and for good reason too.

  • hahahahaha

  • even though i already knew how to do this i always watch and learn somethin new from you

oh and nice funeral dige i gotta learn that an put it in a song heh heh thanks brother later

  • Adam!

Three days? 'I'll be right back at you'

    Hurry up!

This is like heroin for harp players!

    Steve

  • hi adam. Love the vids and I've bought some lessons from MBH. The only way i can get a good strong 2 draw is by breathing thru my nose at the same time which results in me gassing out early.Have you covered this b4.Any tips

  • I believe I have. The key is simply making sure that you find SOME moment within whatever pattern you're playing to blow ALL the air out--both THROUGH the harp and, more importantl, AROUND the coverplates of the harp, by letting the harp slide slightly away from your lips.

  • Awesome... as usual.

  • I love the way that theory (groan) subtley permiates all your lessons Mr Gussow, sitting in front of manuscripts just dosn't cut it when when learning the harp, IT'S ALIVVVEEEE ! Thank you as always sir.

  • Adam, these lessons just keep getting more and more helpful! Many thanks, and keep them coming.

To anyone reading this, go to tradebit and download the CDs on offer - great value and sweet harping!!!!

  • I find a great way to get this blue third is via chocking the harp using tounge blocking while hitting a bend. It's all about the attack and using tounge block/bend techniquie that really creates a sweet sound. On the next video, perhaps you can demo for the folks that aren't aware..

Thanks again for providing insightful instruction.

    Cheers,

    Valentino

  • Valentino: Good point. I don't actually use that technique, but it's one that Dennis Gruenling uses, and the late Nat Riddles. Any chance you'd be willing to get a camera and make your debut as a video harp teacher? I'd love a quick demo of what you do, as would others.

  • little cricket learns well from master. another great vid, gracias

  • Hey, Adam, Could you show us how to make a 'over blow sound'?? I just have no idea to get that...Please~help me!

  • I talk about it at length in an earlier video. Also, visit overblow dot com

  • Thanks!!

  • If you listen to Jason Ricci's "Snowflakes and Horses," you hear hit play the blue third during the harp solo intro, then switch to the minor third when the rest of the band kicks in; it really stuck out the first time I heard it. This is a great example of the difference between the two.

  • Adam, you've done another great job at unlocking another part of the mysterious harp! Thanks

  • Another banger Adam, thanks alot for the time and effort on this one.

  • Adam, do that beat box thing again, LMAO!!!

  • Thanks Adam, will be contacting you off list re some purchases presently. Brilliant teaching.

  • Outstanding I cannot believe I am liking this theory stuff. I love the free lessons but you guys make sure and check out his pay stuff linked from his web site. It is a bargain.

  • Very insightful. Thank you, sir.

  • Another Gussow GEM!!

  • Nice , first to watch ;) loving your new album
