It's called a pitot tube. It is a key vacuum system ingredient in determining air speed. It is also backed up by two other speed measuring systems and the navigation system. It is not likely that any pilot would trust a vacuum system readout during a storm. I have never seen turbulence at fl37(37,000 ft.) in 20 years of flying. Something happened here that defies an easy answer but I guarantee the pitot heating system failure or the unit it's self did not cause the loss of aircraft.

incorrect. the homing beacon will die in 30 days or so, the black box can still be found and contain useful data. It will be harder than hell to find without the beacon though...I think that's what you meant...
Actually, there was an incident with a Thai carrier 737 that crashed mysteriously as well, and they ended up finding them after the beacons stopped working. So i suppose they could find them if the aircraft didn't break up in mid-air.

I read on a news side that there was an unknown object near the machine on radar .. than contact lost immediately. Collided with someting, maybe UFO? Thats very Strange

they discarted that possibility, it went off the radar, that means that the plane droped, and it wouldnt have enough fuel to fly for such a long time...
I hope the best for all the people involved...

incorrect. the homing beacon will die in 30 days or so, the black box can still be found and contain useful data. It will be harder than hell to find without the beacon though...I think that's what you meant...

Actually, there was an incident with a Thai carrier 737 that crashed mysteriously as well, and they ended up finding them after the beacons stopped working. So i suppose they could find them if the aircraft didn't break up in mid-air.
