This is the beginning. Not sure why everyone't hating on this. Pilotable walking robots. It seems more and more feasible these will be almost commonplace (for heavy industry at least) within the next 20 years.
this is the same kind of useless robotics Japan always comes up with. Go watch Boston Dynamics "Big Dog" or PETMAN to see what true advanced robotics with real world applications potential is.
im gonna make a robot and wen ig et a video camera i will show it,it will have paintball guns as guns because i cant go and buy a gatling gun at walmart...lol
Whats the point of legs if they still roll? The military needs to start with more legs in order to maintain balance and stability. Take one of those legs out and you go down. But take one leg out of 8? Now it has a limp, but it's still standing.
depends on the budget i guess, if you want something with fast stable movement equiped with high technology and late weapons, you gotta pay the amount for it. we can design it to be powerful now, but no government is going to spend due to the high price that will cost for per unit
sounds like a bucket of bolts ... what is the big deal with making a walking exo skeleton, you could stick some wheels on that and a bigger gun... oh wait thats right its called a tank
legs are the future how many animals do you see with wheels and if someone put you in a wheel chair i doubt you would be 2 thrilled legs are human ultimate form of motion clibing running jumping wheels can do that but all the same it does need a bigger gun and more armour
...they will need to be a little big more faster than that, but ok lets steriotype, hes big ass robot, im a kid, he got like 2 mashine guns, give me fuckin paper clips and i would still win it...
oooh i see how this works... so it walks into battle and while the enemy laughs at how stupid it is as they shoot it to bits the real soldiers run in behind and take action. brilliant.
not bad but its slow and bulky there is alot of weight on it they are using the wrong type of armour...and programing..they should look at the trojan or the exo suit systems there agilty and flexibility is amazing
exactly one day we will see mechs that'll run up to 50 kph or more and be armed prettey heavaly ....just think what you could put on these things...acually think about Metal gear solid. The NEWBT (Neclear Equiped Walking Battle Tank) or a Railgun equiped with laser ordnace (sp) would absolutly make tanks obsolite ...now to create a biological/millitary vehicle
Tanks are designed to be low for a reason: Concealment. This thing is 10 or 15 feet tall. Would you *really* want to be the biggest target on the battlefield???
Dude would you just shut up already ! Nowbody cares what you have to say here because were here to talk about how cool mechs are not to listen to your negative bullshit!
tanks are low and concealed yes but they're slow and cumbersom. once mechs can start running jumping and dodging faster than a tank could aim, the days of a tank will most likely end.
I cant wait for further development on this. A final product would be amazing, of course with .50 cal Vulcan miniguns, 40mm grenade launcher and a missle pod
Are you guys done saying this is shit? This is the first time in years since someone ever created a mech. Everything starts out as shit. The first airplane was shit. The first gun was shit. You guys really need to understand that something like this takes years to be fully developed this is just a prototype.
That doesn't mean it's better. It just means's it's bipedal and "awesome". And the Autralian company Metalstorm already makes unmanned sentries that can find and engage targets using IFF. This thing is "new" and under development, but it's already obsolete.
this thing isn't new, it's at LEAST 4-5 years old. I saw videos of this exact machine in my junior year of high school, and there was no telling how old those videos were.
it's still awesome, stop nay-saying just for the fuck of it
say you do have something bipedal but not AA or something like that but more anti ground units. stick the metal storm system on one of those. doesn't have to be manned either, could be remotely controlled. and its not already obsolete, its still in its "crawling" stages, wait till robotics improve. the very first tanks could only move no faster than a man could walk and were rolling coffins but look at what we have now. so dont judge something thats just started
waste of money, will never be able to go against a tank, too bulky as probably many of you have said already(i cant be bothered to read), legs need to be able to lift from the ground otherwise it will need to be fighting on gravel
your right it does suck, but it has the potential to be dangerous, think about how quickly technology is improved on now days, in 10-15 years that thing could be fast and very agile, never know what crazy technology is going to come out next. look at the iphone... jk.
Yup. Time flies, Technologies crazily progress. There is nothing wrong of being skeptical. However, people often fail to see something's potentials: if a civilian can build this, why not build an even much Better version by tech-brewing organisations with superior research caps and sufficient financial support? Agreed. Still a long, long way to go before any practical deployment. Well, if someone(s) actually figure out how to produce nuclear-powered units(or equivalent) and yet small enough to fit them into a walker. That may be the start of something even more interesting.
Awsome idea my obviously many problems, it could not cover any other terrain because its legs do not lift, so it essentialy don't walk" it glides. but it is a great start to an actual military walker in the future, but then you must ask yourself, are such vehicles really practical?

Or, the control mechanisms need to be redesigned. Ever watched Appleseed (not the 1980's anime)?

Obviously, those legs are intentionally made "Big" to avoid falling(i.e. Not the super-techno balancing schemes you would like to see in those SF animes). Well the vehicles that would walk are practical.
I mean you could make human sized robots for urban fights and fights inside buildings.
And you could use them for speedy light vehicles that could walk on hard terrains.
However you cant make heavy armor walkers because they have a lot of frontal surface.
