  • So much for stealth mode!

  • ya id like to see that thing go off-road. it would even mvoe an in' before falling face first

  • So when can we expect the first gundam. I'll gladly join if i can pilot one.

  • Gundams have to start somewhere

  • This is the beginning. Not sure why everyone't hating on this. Pilotable walking robots. It seems more and more feasible these will be almost commonplace (for heavy industry at least) within the next 20 years.

  • "Put down your weapon, you have 20 seconds to comply"

  • yawn it dos not even walk it has wheels

  • HEHE

    it got a vw engine...

  • The military can do ten times better than this, if they havnt already. This is some nerds creation

  • Slow as the AT-AT!

  • Just give me a tank.

  • Wow, what a pile of junk!!!!!!!!!!

  • AVATAR

  • oh ya.... this isn't a bad thing at all....

  • What a piece of crap.

  • present hall pass! second request....present hall pass.....BOOM

  • It's ED-209! Take Cover!

  • Comment removed

  • LOFL!!! ED 209

  • this is the same kind of useless robotics Japan always comes up with. Go watch Boston Dynamics "Big Dog" or PETMAN to see what true advanced robotics with real world applications potential is.

  • MECHWARRIOR!!!!

  • avatar?

  • pandora?

  • looks shit looks lik summthng out of a game it needs more work 2 it n news 2 b muc lighter thn tht or ur dead cos u got nowere 2 got lol

  • Srew this i want all the Avatar weaponary

  • this looks like the thing in district 9

  • when will they make E.D 209 lol

  • im totally see it faling over it they drove a car at ! xD

  • The idea looks good, but they didnt spended too much working on the machine for the showup

  • The idea looks good, but they didnt spended too much working on the machine for the showup.

  • im gonna make a robot and wen ig et a video camera i will show it,it will have paintball guns as guns because i cant go and buy a gatling gun at walmart...lol

  • I WANT ONE, ALL HALE I ROBOT. DEATH TO JOHN CONNER.

  • this kind of machine is just fail, tanks are gonna just smash right through them

  • LOL AVATAR :P

  • Whats the point of legs if they still roll? The military needs to start with more legs in order to maintain balance and stability. Take one of those legs out and you go down. But take one leg out of 8? Now it has a limp, but it's still standing.

  • depends on the budget i guess, if you want something with fast stable movement equiped with high technology and late weapons, you gotta pay the amount for it. we can design it to be powerful now, but no government is going to spend due to the high price that will cost for per unit

  • no point of it if it justs dances the power slide! whahahha

  • Oh god this thing is still around? scrap it and come up with a new design all ready

  • one tank shell and that thing falls over, now what?

  • @PECEbro i agree, it needs to be made 10x bigger to withstand a tank shell!

  • imagine 10 - 20 years by now. warefare will be sooo different

  • this reminds me of avatar

  • this reminds me of the machines in star wars and in avatar

  • battle field robots

  • looks all fancy but not that practical. Germans built more practical robots(well not exactly but remote controlled tanks with bad range) than these.

  • this was not built by the Japan military,a private party built it.

  • lol.. that thing is so wobbly it would fall over stepping on a stone.

  • Mechwarrior begins

  • easy target for hide man whit rpg-7

  • Hmp! Japanese! They built a car and now they think they could build a robot.

  • This thing almost looks like one of those Zentradi pods from Macross.

  • ** ATST. LOL ATAT. Was the big four legged ones lol. I want one.

  • AT-AT ;D

  • leave it to the japanesse to do real research.

In a year that mech will be running

  • invincible, until it faces its ultimate opponent.

    the curb. japans funny XP

  • lol fail

  • i could make this in my garage with a 64 vw beetle some sheet metal and 300 rolls of duct tape.what a clunker

  • SNIPE HIM DOWN! D:!!!

  • sounds like a bucket of bolts ... what is the big deal with making a walking exo skeleton, you could stick some wheels on that and a bigger gun... oh wait thats right its called a tank

  • Was thinking the same thing. This is a waste of resources.

  • legs are the future how many animals do you see with wheels and if someone put you in a wheel chair i doubt you would be 2 thrilled legs are human ultimate form of motion clibing running jumping wheels can do that but all the same it does need a bigger gun and more armour

  • ...they will need to be a little big more faster than that, but ok lets steriotype, hes big ass robot, im a kid, he got like 2 mashine guns, give me fuckin paper clips and i would still win it...

  • similar to robot in the film robocop

  • oooh i see how this works... so it walks into battle and while the enemy laughs at how stupid it is as they shoot it to bits the real soldiers run in behind and take action. brilliant.

  • LOL bahahahaha made my day!

  • I've rent this robot 4 years before.

It cost a million yen per day.

    Transportation fee is not included.

  • REALAX THIS IS THE FIRST UPGRADE FELLOW MEN

in the future this will be powerfull

  • not bad but its slow and bulky there is alot of weight on it they are using the wrong type of armour...and programing..they should look at the trojan or the exo suit systems there agilty and flexibility is amazing

  • wtf... wheels or hover would be a whole lot better than slow clunky legs i mean i moved like crippled drunk. but i guess its a start.

  • Its Metal Gear!

  • this reminds me of star wars

  • yeah it kinda looks like an imperial walker

  • Cool just like an armored core mt now they need to work on an ac

  • wooooooooooooooow

  • get ready for the terminator wars ;)

  • remember people....everything gets bigger better stronger and faster

  • i think instead of big robot things they should have suits kind of like iron man that would be crazy!

  • like in gears of war?xD

  • i wouldint know ive never played gears of war

  • they're currently working on a bunch of suits like that. type in raytheon exoskeleton in the search bar it should come up

  • cooll i got get me one of those hehe

  • My god. You are sitting in your very own walking coffin if you enter combat with that.

  • haha, biggest shit ever, no use in any situation.

  • exactly one day we will see mechs that'll run up to 50 kph or more and be armed prettey heavaly ....just think what you could put on these things...acually think about Metal gear solid. The NEWBT (Neclear Equiped Walking Battle Tank) or a Railgun equiped with laser ordnace (sp) would absolutly make tanks obsolite ...now to create a biological/millitary vehicle

  • Tanks are designed to be low for a reason: Concealment. This thing is 10 or 15 feet tall. Would you *really* want to be the biggest target on the battlefield???

  • Dude would you just shut up already ! Nowbody cares what you have to say here because were here to talk about how cool mechs are not to listen to your negative bullshit!

  • they are cool but also pointless. now asimo thats a robot

  • tanks are low and concealed yes but they're slow and cumbersom. once mechs can start running jumping and dodging faster than a tank could aim, the days of a tank will most likely end.

  • no but do you want to be the biggest asshole on you tube?

  • I cant wait for further development on this. A final product would be amazing, of course with .50 cal Vulcan miniguns, 40mm grenade launcher and a missle pod

  • Are you guys done saying this is shit? This is the first time in years since someone ever created a mech. Everything starts out as shit. The first airplane was shit. The first gun was shit. You guys really need to understand that something like this takes years to be fully developed this is just a prototype.

  • Maybe it can put out fires?

  • ... can't we already put out fires??? How would this be better?

  • lol what a bucket of shit!

  • why the need for a thing that acan walk when thers things that can fly? Manless flying weapons are way too effective than this.

  • It would make a great building defender. Like a sort of semi-stationary turret to defend the entrance of a building building in a city.

  • ... Those already exist. Mobile missile and AAA batteries have been around for a while. How would this thing be any better??

  • Because it's bipedal and awesome?

  • That doesn't mean it's better. It just means's it's bipedal and "awesome". And the Autralian company Metalstorm already makes unmanned sentries that can find and engage targets using IFF. This thing is "new" and under development, but it's already obsolete.

  • this thing isn't new, it's at LEAST 4-5 years old. I saw videos of this exact machine in my junior year of high school, and there was no telling how old those videos were.

it's still awesome, stop nay-saying just for the fuck of it

  • say you do have something bipedal but not AA or something like that but more anti ground units. stick the metal storm system on one of those. doesn't have to be manned either, could be remotely controlled. and its not already obsolete, its still in its "crawling" stages, wait till robotics improve. the very first tanks could only move no faster than a man could walk and were rolling coffins but look at what we have now. so dont judge something thats just started

  • PIECE OF SHIT

  • ya, theres a big-dog robot developed in the USA.

now if you put a gun and vevlar on the big-dog, you would have a formidable robot. still too expensive for mass production.

  • waste of money, will never be able to go against a tank, too bulky as probably many of you have said already(i cant be bothered to read), legs need to be able to lift from the ground otherwise it will need to be fighting on gravel

  • your right it does suck, but it has the potential to be dangerous, think about how quickly technology is improved on now days, in 10-15 years that thing could be fast and very agile, never know what crazy technology is going to come out next. look at the iphone... jk.

  • Yup. Time flies, Technologies crazily progress. There is nothing wrong of being skeptical. However, people often fail to see something's potentials: if a civilian can build this, why not build an even much Better version by tech-brewing organisations with superior research caps and sufficient financial support? People had always been laughing at the idea of creating heavier-than-air flying vehicles in previous century. So, what about today's aircraft transport system?

  • @dkman222 10 - 15 ill bet is way too long ... remember what they said about the tazer once.

  • yeah a tank gun would blow the shit out of that

  • yeah but the point is that the people controlling the tanks will be controlling this too.

  • It may be clunky, slow and pointless but this may be a low link in an evolutionary chain that in 100 years will be something altogether different. Look at the first WW1 tanks and then look at an Abrams now, the first tanks were sad but they provided the seed of what came later. This walker form will be step by step improved over time as new technologies and metals come into play. Then we will stick AI brains in them and wonder if we just built our greatest enemies ever....

  • i saw this doc where the idea was that hollywood preconditions people for ideas that will become public in the future...at the moment drones are dropping bombs on pakistan and not one word is being said. Robot toys are everywhere...anyone seen robocop??? how far off is that?

  • Garbage

  • Totally pointless

  • What's it using to pivot like that?

  • The legs are too big and there's no real balancing mechanisms.

Start out with a helicopter and give it some legs (for landing purposes), and build up from that. Or put arms on a tank. Then combine the 2 designs when ready.

Or, the control mechanisms need to be redesigned. Ever watched Appleseed (not the 1980's anime)?

  • Obviously, those legs are intentionally made "Big" to avoid falling(i.e. Not the super-techno balancing schemes you would like to see in those SF animes). Helicopters can't lift too much weight(<1.5 tons for stability). Tanks can easily be under-powered with heavy component "sitting" on top. Slimmer and more light-weighted skeletal system in the future.... Perhaps?

  • yeah what if a rpg or ied hits the leg and its to big to go in woods to clear out

  • Only a dream in a the past.

In the present its suck balls.

In the futur we gonna pray that the new generation dont gonna blow up our street!

  • it doesent really count as a walker considering its feet dont even leave the ground

  • it need more speed and guns man

  • No offense but I'm not all that impressed - can't see many war terrains having flat surfaces for that kind of foot clearance :) looks nifty but yea.

  • i think is better is the robot list the legs intead of dragging on the floor.

  • "IF" the walker's tonnage could be significantly reduced and not manned.... otherwise, simply impractical.

  • looks like an interesting concept, still far away from anythign practicle, but still a nice start.

  • Agreed. Still a long, long way to go before any practical deployment. Well, if someone(s) actually figure out how to produce nuclear-powered units(or equivalent) and yet small enough to fit them into a walker. That may be the start of something even more interesting.

  • Awsome idea my obviously many problems, it could not cover any other terrain because its legs do not lift, so it essentialy don't walk" it glides. but it is a great start to an actual military walker in the future, but then you must ask yourself, are such vehicles really practical?

  • Yup, it's not practical for deployment(See info box). At the very least, it need much better energy source(instead of diesel fuel) for powering-up more serious walker motions.

  • Well the vehicles that would walk are practical.

I mean you could make human sized robots for urban fights and fights inside buildings.

And you could use them for speedy light vehicles that could walk on hard terrains.

However you cant make heavy armor walkers because they have a lot of frontal surface.

  • To be exact: not practical for "manned" walkers. They are just too big and too heavy for any diesel engine to support. Of course, you got your point: Large frontal surface area makes an easy target.

  • Put in on tracks!

  • Search the youtube for "big dog robot".

  • three letters: RPG.
