You should be thankful you live in a more prosperous, developed society where nobody needs to rely on animals to help them with their menial, backbreaking subsistence living. Have you ever seen these punished animals being forced to work? Ponies the size of yearlings are whipped all day while they're dragging massive carts around, they cannot do anything about it.

If an animal struggles or attempts to 'fight back', it will be punished and animals aren't stupid, they know when they will be hit.

These animals are broken down and have 'broken spirits' so to speak. They know they can't win against these people so struggling will cause more pain among themselves.
