oh and if disney was racist, it wouldnt even have these black guys on here. or brother bear, or pocahantus, or EVEN PRINCESS AND THE FROG!! So STOP saying Disney is racist!! (this isnt to the host of this video its to others who agree with peoples comments on agreeing that this IS racist.) Disney-I repeat, WALT DISNEY NOR DISNEY IS FREAKING RACIST!! now im getting upset...
@Heylilvelvet Well, the MAN Walt Disney may have been racist but I'm just glad his work isn't (as far as i heard of about the Mickey Mouse strip which im never looking at) -.-'' ive always believed disney being good, not bad.
@jukuprincess well this film was released in 1940 so racial segregation was very normal back then. There was no such thing as political correctness back then and disney is getting with the times, now they have hannah montana and zac and cody for children who are spoilt and think that the world is all about money and glamour
Can You Do That Bouncing ball again with mark miller and Richard pursell song: never smile at a crocodile without Disney's sing along songs logo for me?
This film was based on a circus in early 1900s America. At that time, virtually all circus laborers were black. They were commonly referred to as "Routabouts." They were well known to live "in the moment" - spending all of their money on alcohol, women, and good times when they weren't working. They lived very hard, fast, and short lives. This film is actually quite authentic. It can only be perceived racist if you view the actual actions and lifestyles of early 1900s roustabouts as racist.
You obviously don't know your history there my blind-eyed friend. There were no whites murdering Indians in the early 1900s. You are thinking of the early 1800s. Secondly, white trash was VERY uncommon to find in the early 1900s, and equally difficult to find ANY white laborers working for circuses. The accuracy in this video is pure and simple. Times were much different then, and you can not condemn them because you were not there and have no reference to equate them to.
@biodole Point blank smart azz Disney is quick to "accurately" summit a movie of negitive facts of the minority period!!!!!! im not disputing the facts of history, i am only stating Disney's stareo typical white fairy tales and the negitive point of views towards the minority facts of story telling!!!!! When you watch Disney movies, white are the heroes and princess etc (perfect).. whilst the minority get to be politicaly and historicaly correct, thus they tend to be the poor, evil or inadiquate
lol...let's just say this. If Blacks and Hispanics in America had been as smart, good looking, wealthy, popular, famous, or done nearly as much good at whites did at the turn of the century...then maybe they would be the circus ringleader and the whites would be the roustabouts. Just sayin'.
@biodole Oh soo now the truth comes out you swine "PIG"....All of a sudden if Disney "WAS" being racist! its okay because BLACKS and HISPANICS are inadiquate... I arrest my case and if people like you with that stail perspective still exist now, imagin back then. Continue your denial.... Dismiss
@biodole 'grab that rope you hairy ape' ? seems pretty racist to me, and has nothing to with the lifestyles which the workers led. Would be interesting to know more about the era.
The term "hairy ape" was used by one worker to another. If you research your history, calling each other "nigger" or "ape" was VERY common then, and is still very common today amongst blacks. Ape is used to a lesser extent today than "nigger" , however this was the reverse in the late 1800's until the early 1940s.
@Henryduckfan63 I never said it was the actual song. It's edited and that's the point. ;)
Dumbo is a product of it's time and I definitely know Disney wasn't maliciously injecting racism in it's children's films. However, it's interesting to look at these movies now with our shifted cultural perspective and noticing how less concerned we were with the notions of racism and political correctness back in the day. Surely, Dumbo would be a completely different movie if made by today's standards.
@unlimitedlumpia Ahh, I see. You proved a very good point in a civilized(and pretty cool,I must say) way. I'm glad you didn't attack my comment like many other users do. :)
@ToonJoey34 i used a combination of photoshop, flash and after effects to add the title card and the bouncing ball. it was a little convoluted, but i managed to get it to look right in the end

How could it be named 'Yes, Sir'? I did find it around YouTube and on Amazon and it was already named 'The Song Of The Roustabouts'.
SimpleJars 10 months ago
@SimpleJars It isn't the original song. I edited it down to critique it, hence the different name.
