  • I saw this on TV in 1999 when I was 7 and my eyes were slightly watery after the ending :/ cos I thought Bond is usually happy with a girl on his arm at the end of a typical adventure but the twist in this film really shocked me :/

  • @HorstRolande I agree with you on the action scenes, it was well poor. All the rest made up for it.

  • georege played a great part some other bond films were shall we say , not near as

good as hmss . i dont understand why he did not get a another film o well thanks

    george job well done

  • @leoretrosi he declined the offer. i think he only lack the swagger but he was a good bond as he is.

  • Any guy can have sex with a girl. Only Lazenby can suffer from that loss...

  • why didnt telly savalas reprise blofeld for the later films. he made the character actually interesting. i would've loved to see lazenby bond get his revenge on savalas blofeld for this

  • No matter how many times I see this makes me cry so much , so sad.

  • Així és la vida, quan ho tens tot, t'ho prenen

  • and even with georges acting, he should have done more bond movies, i could see him in

    DAF

    LALD

    TMWTGG

    TSWLM

    FEYO

  • while i am a fan of Sean Connery, George Lazenby was the only one who could portray bond in this movie, seeing it with any of the other bond actors would probably not do so well at box office

  • Lazenby gets a lot of grief for his portrayal of Bond, but you gotta admit, he knocked this scene out of the park.

  • he had to see that coming lol

  • OMG I JUST HATE THE THE TWO NIGGA COCKCROACHES!"!!

  • sad words, music classic JOHN BARRY YOUR MUSIC WILL LAST FOREVER. GOD BLESS IM A LAZENBY FROM LEEDS, GEORGE,S ORIGINAL FAMILY CAME FROM NORTH ENGLAND ANY ONE OUT THERE

  • Comment removed

  • he shows he is a real man with feelings.

  • @MrChristainchris Many people have said George Lazenby could n´t act , none of the other Bonds would have portryed that scene better.

  • @135yearswaiting

Actually probably Timothy Dalton would have, being trained as a Shakespearean actor he would have known how to do the emotional side of things. plus he's a much better actor than Lazenby .

  • i just watched the whole thing, and even though i knew it was coming (i saw it before) i could never have expected it. and what's the deal with the cop? btw i found this by googling "why is the end of on her majesty's secret service so sad?" so, yeah...

  • Never thought a scene from a Bond film could elicit this kind of an emotional response from me...

  • Naughty Q not putting in bullet proof windscreen! Naughty Q! ;D

  • A Great scene, done brilliantly by Diana Rigg who here portrays a woman who goes from profound melancholy reflection and sincere gratitude to maybe the most appealing delivery ever of a double entendre (third iteration of "in"); to life-affirming reflection on the future "first a boy and then a girl"; to a death scene where the iconic male hero of our age/Bond character is driven mad with grief.

And it brings home the fuller, somber meaning of the "All the time in the World" lyrics.

  • I wonder how Draco felt afterwards..

  • Louis Armstrong should have sung the song with the closing credits.

  • This should be remade, properly, with Cold War era setting, followed by Fleming's 'You Only Live Twice', which is the best of the novels, and would be extremely cinematic if done correctly.

  • It would've been so better if Connery had quit after Thunderball, which was his last great Bond movie. Lazenby could've then starred in both OHMSS and You Only Live Twice. Then they could've followed the YOLT novel more precisely and have Blofeld killed in it.

  • Timothy Dalton was being offered the role of Bond for OHMSS, but he thought it was too early in his acting career and he also thought he was too young and inexperienced. Dalton was 22 at the time.

I would have been interestesting had he actually accepted Broccoli's offer.

  • So it's the old "Quagmire/Cheryl Tiegs" excuse for womanizing?

  • This must be some re-mixed, 'restored' version. Pictorially, if not aurally, because the gunshots are different to how they sound in the original version. In the original it's a continuous spray, like it's raining bullets. This is positively piss-weak by comparison. (I'm only saying so because I care, OHMSS is one of my favorite Bond films. And vale John Barry, who left us yesterday...)

  • i hate how when tracy dies that after that we hear the james bond theme its a sad moment so it should sad music

  • This event started his paranoia with women

  • talk about wooden. It's like someone threw a chair onto the set...

  • After this film Diamonds Are Forever is a major disappointment, especially as it doesn't really deal with Bond's response to Tracy's death. I think Lazenby is very good in this final scene and the (only relative) lower box office returns may have as much to do with the tragic ending and the length of the film as with Connery not being in it. Still my favourite Bond film and Connery did say that he thought Lazenby didn't do a bad job for someone who hadn't acted before.

  • @dafmurray its kinda does deal with the death in the opening as he is looking for Blofeld, i would like to have seen more of him dealing with it. if Lazenby had still been Bond i think we would have

  • @dafmurray

Actually OHMSS did pretty well in the box office, and Lazenby was scheduled to do the next movie. His agent however told him that James Bond would die with the 60's and that he rapidly was becoming a "relic" not suited to the new generation.

Lazenby would no doubt do better than Connery did in Diamonds Are Forever (which Connery reluctantly did for a record sum of money), but the problem in that movie is that the story is a weak follow up on OHMSS, and in my mind one of the worst..

  • I always thought Lazenby got a bum rap as being a subpar Bond in his one appearance as 007. The critics always scrutinized everything from the sun to the moon without giving their real complaint; Laenby wasn't Sean Connery. I think that's unfair as one is always has a preference to the preferred. If looked at on its on merrits, I think HMSS is a great film and even add some much needed texture to The James Bond character.

  • Hahahaha it's blofled CHEAP

  • Simply the one of the most heartbreaking moments in film history. Give Lazenby his due, his final sobs while holding Tracy were perfect.

  • i won't lie, i actually really enjoy this bond film-actually one of my favorites.

  • Google "1965 playboy interview with Connery". In that interview he says he is contracted for 2 MORE movies after Thunderball. And he specifically mentions OHMSS as one of the films he is contracted for. I admire his desire to not be typecast, but selfishly wish he had been the star of every Bond film in the 60's. The 70's could've been the Moore or Lazenby decade.

  • Was THIS Supposed to be the last of the Bond movies had Connery done this? It certainly was presented that way.

  • I cry everytime I see this scene. Its so heartbreakng that she died on their wedding day. Poor James. :(

I always thought that Diana Rigg played the perfect Bond girl. She really is Mrs. Bond. Thanks for posting. :D

  • Lazenby and his representatives at the time should have at least signed on for Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die and Man with the Golden Gun and then

re-negotiated for four more films to fulfill the seven picture deal offered by Cubby

Broccoili. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, although not a conventional "Connery

style" Bond film, is in fact, the "unbond", if you will; but it is very much "the rare gem" of the entire Bond series.

  • a great actor for play 007

  • Echo what TheV100 says. I thought the Bond theme after the sombre score emphasised the whole idea that Bond was "down but not out" and he will be back despite what we have just seen.

Just watched it again, great film. Such a shame they didn't follow it up in the proper way.

  • I think this is the type of Bond film Connery wanted. Connery wanted more character development and this film has it. It also made Bond more human. Also, I think the reason why they played the Bond theme at the end credits is because it shows that Bond is going to have revenge against Blofeld. So I guess it sets an angry tone against the villain.

  • well played blofeldt

  • miss Miss Bond

  • Connery gave a very poor performance in Diamonds Are Forever. He looked about thirty pounds overweight and said his lines like he could not wait to get out of the movie. Lazenby would have been much better in the part. Connery's time as Bond had passed.

  • Lazenby should have made more bond films which would have allowed him to develop his own interpretation rather than just be filling in connery 's shows. The best bond film by a mile

  • Connery turned this down because there were acting scenes in it!

  • I like this James Bond movie ! Though, it's still unbelievable to see Bond cry !

  • George Lazenby was good. But It is said that Sean Connery retired just before this one but then its strange that he resumed his roll as Bond in Daimonds Are Forever because he was talked into it. Somehow I don't believe he retired. I'm quite sure he turned down the roll as Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It was just too emotional and very much out of keeping with the usual James Bond senerio. Maybe he didn't want to ruin his image.

    If so, can't blame him.

  • @unhooked

Connery came back for Diamonds are Forever because the fans wanted him back and he was paid a huge amount of money to return as Bond. Even though Lazenby was terrific, fans just couldn't accept him over Connery (at the time).

  • Okay TheNicholas0202, I will go along with your comment. And as you say, even though Lazenby was terrific, fans just coundn't accept him over Connery, but then who could blame them, afterall it was the first Bond movie which had a different actor playing Bond and it seemed a bit of a shame. But I can't help but think 90%, the content of O.H.M.S.S. triggered Connery's decission to retire. There are 2 or 3 conflicting stories on Connery's reason for not doing that one, which makes one wonder.

  • unhooked25 connery was just sick of playing the role and felt he would be typecast if he carried on

  • You could tell in You Only Live Twice that Connery was bored with the role. He only came back for Diamonds are Forever because they offered him an at the time unheard of sum of $1 million. However, Lazenby was first offered a multifilm deal and the bonehead turned it down. Who knows where the series would have gone if he had stuck with it.

  • @melosebrainuhoh It was more half lazenby's fault half producers. On the Inside OHMSS documentary, it was said after Lazenby's agent told the press he was not going to do more, the producers were shocked and started looking for a new actor and George was going to fix communication but decided they did not want him so he thought whats the point. He now regrets it and said had he gone to fix communication he would have been in DAF. It's possible we could have had George til Licence to Kill.

  • its werid how when he said it blofeld the frist time i sounds pissed and the second time hes calm but i dont think its a bad bond i b nice 2 see him in 2 more but thing wok out 4 a reason but i thought the editor edited this movie badly and i wonder if this film wouldve been better with c9onnery or how it would be with him in it

  • probably the saddest bond scene ever

  • Lazenby is my Bond. My favorite. And this movie is too. Brilliant.

  • lazenby was so fucking awesome----he would have blown roger moores pants off--------oh well. he had a shiity agent---and his head was too big----he admits it now---so.. gotta him credit for his huge fuck up.........!!!!!!

  • Such a sad line, I really like the end of this film. Possibly the most emotional bond ever gets

  • i have never seen this one, i want to, but until then craig is good, dalton is better, and connery is the best.

  • I totally agree.

  • "We have all the time in the world." This scene made me cry when I first saw it.

  • dalton will always be my favourite, but lazenby is by no means far off. he nailed it with this fantastic movie and should get more respect then he deserves

  • best bond ending ever...

  • Bondz classics, awsome.

  • one of the better bond films...very dark ending!

  • i always loved the bullet hole in the glass with the sad music over it.

  • Tracy is one of the best Bond Girls. Better than that. She is the wife of Bond. Mrs. Bond.

  • The only thing that bothers me about this is that The James Bond Theme immediately kicks in over the credits. It's a tragic moment, not a victorious one, and it would have been much more fitting to have Louis Armstrong's "We Have All The Time In The World" make an encore appearance over the credits.

Aside from that, it's absolutely beautiful and tragic and heartbreaking. Bond finally finds the woman he loves, and she's taken from him on their most special day. Always makes me cry, always.

  • brettlesmcbuff, every single thing you wrote is exactly correct.

  • @brettlesmcbuff . Louis' "We have all the time in the world" coming in after this scene is what I was expecting to happen and is why I came looking for it. I'm so upset it isn't the case.

If someone knows and could post a link to an edited version...

  • @brettlesmcbuff Yeah, I agree. the only problem with an otherwise perfect scene.

  • I think cuing the Bond score is brilliant, implying that his world is not enough.

  • @brettlesmcbuff

The book, makes me cry a lot on this same scene..

  • @FREEDOMPRODUCTIONS11 I know, you just feel so bad for 007 especially after all the women he has had and he finally finds Miss Right and she dies on him.

  • @brettlesmcbuff yeah, hell even the movie's theme song would have been perfect

  • @brettlesmcbuff I agree, the James Bond theme at the end is distracting and everytime I think 'Wo, this is a James Bond film and I'm crying!' (everytime) but I was listening to the commentaries and the music was arranged this way to represent Bond's persona, this sad moment builts him into the 'colder' character that we know.

  • man if Ian Flemming was still alive when OHMSS came Iout I think he would of cried in the theater watching this scene

  • makes me cry that this beauty had to die. she was so gorgeous like no bond girl ever after that.

  • I remember this scene when I saw it in the theater and it made me sad. first time I'd seen Bond cry.

  • I remember reading this part at the end of OHMSS...only time I've ever cried reading a novel...

  • one of the most touching scenes in all the Bond movies

  • george lazenby family born/ bred leeds york. back in 1800 father went late 1800 went to austrialia came back married local girl of leeds went back to austrialia.HE IS A LAZENBY OF CROSSGATES LEEDS.spitfire

  • So the score between Bond and Blofeld up to this point in the films beginning with Dr. No are:

    Bond- 5

    Blofeld- 1

If only George didn't quit with this Bond film, we could have had various different Bond movies after. But then again, I do enjoy Roger as Bond, but only up to Octopussy, from that point he should have resigned before A View to a Kill went into production. One can only imagine if history was to be altered, that is if George took the 7-contract deal.

  • Isn't there a cut on which Bond cries?

They didn't employ because the producers don't think that Bond ever cries :D

  • Yes there is. The producers didn't use it for that reason. Lazenby prefered it. I think his scene would take some beating. You can hear him cry in this one too

  • Its a pity George didnt do a couple more bond films as he could have been the best bond. As it is he made one great film.

  • Comment removed

  • @rarebutgreat Not only was he a great Bond and not only was it a great film, but it was arguably the most important Bond film. This is one of the most important moments of the entire series. A defining moment in the life of James Bond, and of course it is revisited in later films. The opening sequence in "For Your Eyes Only" and Felix Leiter's wedding (and the scene after it) spring to mind.

  • @Burbridge92 and 'the spy who loved me' also. this movie, at least to me, is also the closest to fleming's novel, than some of the others.

  • ian flemming wante dcary grant like his hitchcokian films. or Charade.

  • If Lazenby had done the first Bond film maybe it would had been different, if I am right did not the writer Ian Fleming want Lazenby to be his first Bond? That said I like Lazenby's Bond film, it has heart and soul and with Diana Rigg as said made a good film couple.

  • Honestly, I can't picture Connery or any of the other Bond's acting out this scene just because they had their own way of doing bond. Lazenby was a newbie and had a unique way of playing Bond. I thought this was a very special scence and I have to give credit to Lazenby for doing this scene to the best of his ability.

  • each actor has their different way of playing bond. lazenby played bond as a human being, one that has emotions and suffers when their loved ones die, the other actors have played bond as a cold character, just remember when pierce brosnan killed elektra, that was very cold

  • Brosan killing Elektra was cold, but not cold enough. If Dalton had killed her, he'd wouldn't have felt any remorse. Same with Craig, so I've heard (not watched one of his movies yet) Brosan's Bond did regret it a tiny bit. Not much, but he did regret it to a point - although she would have killed him without a second though and he knew it - thus why he shot her when he did. She was convinced he was bluffing - he was not.

I always liked Brosen because he was like a mix of Sean & Tim.

  • well, i think lazenby read the book, he played bond very much as he was written by ian fleming. i actually liked timothy dalton a lot too, he looked like how ian fleming described bond in the novels. i also liked how he made bond a bastard again. i didn't really like roger moore.

  • This scene was almost verbatim from the book...

  • I'm going to have to read the book again. Don't remember that. But it's been years since I've read it.

  • i know. this movie was all pretty close to the book, except tracy was blonde in the book.

  • Blofeld's look was different in the novel, too. And the opening was changed just a little for the movie as well. But OHMSS was amazingly faithful to the book; it is BY FAR my favorite Bond film, and I think Lazenby was terrific in it and deserved at least a few more outings.

  • i thought of one more thing, they skip a lot of tracy's back story. her little girl etc.

  • What the hell? Who are you to say Lazenby sucked? He was in the same league as Connery.

  • I agree. Lazenby was given the most difficult script out of all the Bond movies, and he deserves credit for his performance. I can't see Moore, Connery or even Bronsan pulling this off. This movie was meant to be played by a newcomer if you ask me

  • Rumors have it if Lazenby hadn't left the seires, this scene wouldn't have happened until Diamonds are Forever. I think Connery could have pulled it off, but I got a feeling although she dies in the book - she wouldn't have died at the end of the movie. They would have made her death part of the teaser of the next one. Since Lazenby went in and out during the shooting ofthe movie . . . they just wrapped it up in one movie. Connery isn't doing that final scene. Moore & Brosen could've. Dalto does

  • well, this scene was how the novel ended. this whole movie was very close to how the novel went.

  • I agree. I can't imagine even Connery playing this scene.

  • Connery, for all of his formidable abilities, doesn't play vulnerability very well. Lazenby did an amazing job; he was a novice as an actor and given THE most challenging script, and he was very good -- superb, in fact, in many scenes, this final one among them.

  • Right. I don't know if you ever seen THE OFFENSE which is Connery's personal favorite among his performances. He plays a detective investigating a series attacks on children who is manipulated by the perpetrator into doubting his own feelings about his own sexual nature. This sends him right over the brink.

  • very good, if not a little creepy, movie.

  • Yes, creepy, disturbing even revolting but Connery was courageous to portray this character. I can't imagine any of his contemporaries-Caine, Harris, O'Toole, Burton attempting it.

  • @Kirok

He did an incredible job without ever visit an actor scool.

    Amazing!

  • awesome best bond film ever, diana rigg and george lazenby were made for each other.

  • Brilliant scene. Brilliant film. The best Bond film in my opinion.

  • WTF? Not a single mention of how breathtaking Diana Rigg looks in this video? Shame on you guys!

  • Very powerfull ending.

  • im sure that fleming would cry when he will see this

  • Had Lazenby not quit (he wasn't fired, they offered him a 7 picture deal), this would have been the opening scene in DAF. Too bad as DAF would've dealt with Bond's pursuit of Blofeld to avenge his wife. This film was supposed to fade out when you see the crane shot showing Bond and Tracy leaving the wedding. Oh what could've been. Lazenby's bad judgement single-handedly changed the entire direction of the Bond series for the next few decades.

  • 0:35-0:37 very uggly :D

  • i guess blofeld and elma bunt invented the first drive by shooting i guess some people watched this movie and deccided he lets do that lol

  • the name is IRMA BUNT not ELMA BUNT :D:D:

  • oh well the way she said her name in the movie sounded like elma sorry.

  • The only two who could have pulled this scene off are Lazenby and Dalton.

Connery, Moore, and Brosnan were too comical to pull this scene off.

  • I agree. I think Craig could pull it off. He sort of comes across as one of the more serious Bonds, but one quality he does have is that he can be the comical and serious Bond. I honestly think Craig is the best in contrast to the way the book portrays Bond.

  • craig looks like the bastard son of sid james, download and put pictures side by side.

craig is way to cynical and post modern to play this scene.

    lazenby needed another bond movie.

all the other bonds had a ton more acting experience than him and yet he nailed this character in one movie and helped make this one of if not the best bond movie.

diana rigg is perfection as well.

  • I thought all the actors in this movie were great. I'm just saying, Craig would be good in this role. I still think Craig and Lazenby are the best Bonds. I mean you can say what you want, like that Connery is the original and stuff, but still, you can't deny Craig and Lazenby are the best representations of James Bond in terms of what the novel described him as.

  • i don't know, timothy dalton always looked like how ian fleming described bond in the novels.

  • @hogger129

Craig? Really? You've got to be kidding me.

  • yes i agree. Connery, Moore, and Brosnan would've taken too much action which would ruin Diamonds are Forever

  • Oh please. Connery was funny when he wanted but could be serious without any problem. Moore intentionally played the character like a cartoon but could have gone serious when the script called for it. Brosnan was a snooze but even he could do this scene well.

  • i think since the series has a reboot, they should remake the old bond films

  • Bloody Bitch!I hope that Craig's Bond(or anyone else's) will track down that bitch and give her a taste of her own medicine!

  • they wont bring back irma bunt the actress who played her died in 1971. Wont bring her back out of respect for the actress. Bunt was supposed to be in diamonds are forever along with lazenby but he quit the role in 1969.

  • I honestly think Craig would be great if they use him in a remake of this. Not that Lazenby isn't good in it, but it would be sort of a good storyline for a new Bond film. I think this is one of the better Bond plots and films.

  • definitely

  • Connery is, and always will be, my favourite Bond, but Kirok is right - Sean Connery could not have pulled this scene off. I think the problem was, they wanted an actor from the British Isles. Lazenby did a very good job, and the last scene is full of pathos, emotion and gut-wrenching sorrow...

  • "Pathos, emotion and gut-wrenching sorrow"? PUH-LEEZE!!! Lazenby cried on the first take and the stupid producer said, "Bond does not cry!" so they reshot the scene. there was no emotion in the scene. stupid ending, anyway. He should've killed Blofeld and there could've been TWO 00's.

  • I agree, Lazenby did a good job in this film. I do think Connery is about the best, it's pretty hard to measure up to an actor like him, and especially if he's the original Bond. I like Daniel Craig too, I think he played Bond VERY WELL in Casino Royale. Didn't like Quantum as much though. Idk. I think Connery coul dhave pulled it off. Maybe not like Lazenby though.

  • Lazenby is great here. It's a shame he was only around for one film and all the silliness began in DAF.

  • DAF? Please educate me, JK...

  • Diamonds are Forever.

  • Diamonds are forever is what DAF stands for come out in 1971 with sean connery after OHMSS.

  • "There's no hurry, you see? We have all the time in the world"

    :(

  • Best Bond woman EVER.She had class & wasn't a whore !

  • that was so freakin sad, he finally decides to settle down and his wife gets shot, what the f**k? it sucks to be 007!

  • OH NO!!!! Not like this!!!!

  • Poor 007,you feel really bad for him

  • My favourite Bond film of all time. These scene is 1000 times better than what happened in Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. I didn't feel he had any chemistry with his female costar, but you really felt for Lazenby's Bond and Riggs. Damnit, Telly Savalas gets away! The only thing I don't like is you have the sexy bond theme playing over the end credits, which kills the mood. They should have kept it low key, like having an instrumental version of Louis Armstrong's 'All The Time...' playing.

  • Def agree with last comment!!

  • a bond film has to have a unhappy ending.shame lazenby quit after this caper.telly was picked has blofed because he could give bond some compettion in the fisticuffs department.watch the bobsleigh chase.

  • Comment removed

  • OHMSS is one of the Best Bond films. IT was a downer at the end. HE didn't get the bad guy after all.

  • supposedly they shot this version first, and either ian flemming or albert broccoli had a fit, because he cried. james bond can't cry, etc. etc. anyway, they shot it again, without him crying, and it was horrible, so in the end they had to put it in this way. this is my favorite bond movie, since i was named after diana rigg's character.

  • Comment removed

  • then it was broccoli.

  • well no Peter Hunt was the dirctor of OHMSS and and Hunt was the one that had the fit

  • thanks, i get names wrong all the time. i'll know the basic story, but i'll screw up all the names.
