@Crunkboy415 Of course it was legal then. Now that everyone has followed his lead and tries to intentionally injure other players that cannot defend themselves the league has put rules in place so all former players aren't retarded at 40. He was a scumbag that was only a "big hitter" when he was blasting players that weren't looking at him in the head. It's only logical that an enormous asshole is your hero.
@ihateyourstupidass Really? Like he was the only player back at that time to intentionally hurt a player. Ever heard of George Atkinson? Conrad Dobler? Jack Lambert? They weren't pussies like you are.
@ihateyourstupidass You're are dumbshit you know that? Blindside hits were always a part of the game since the beginning of organized football. You heard of the Fearsome Foursome? The Hammer? Nowadays the No Fun League has pussified the game so much that teams like the Saints are offering bounties to intentionally hurt opposing players. So much for the "new rules." You must get your jollies watching the Lingerie Football League.
Cheap shot Lott going for the head of Bavaro, yet Bavaro springs back up. What did you say this video was all about? Bavaro was the greater talent between the two
@ronpaulforpresident6 are you kidding? yeah bavaro was damn good, but lott is one of the top 5 dbs to ever play... im a 49er fan from norcal so i was privelidged to get to watch him play every week... i dont think you can say that bavaro was one of "the best of all time" at his position.... he was tough and real good, but i dont think you can say he was a greater talent than lott.... just my opinion....GO NINERS!
@milesneedham Comparing Bavaro to Lott is not only like comparing apples to oranges, it's like comparing rotten apples to ripe oranges. Lott was a beast, once cut his finger off when the bone came through the skin so he could continue playing. One of the top DBs of all time, ruthless playmaker. People are just mad because he probably decapitated someone on every one of their favorite teams with his bone-crunching tackles.
Every fan of every team is saying the same thing. The NFL is getting soft. The players are saying it too (well, maybe not the qbs). Goodell sucks. No fan likes him. The players who like the softer NFL are probably all Seahawks fans. Today's NFL players get paid more for less.
Many players back then have their wives wiping their asses now because they weren't protected from hits like that. The league now is far from soft. They're just looking out for people a little bit more! And before you attack me let me say. GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!
this play is illegal in today's soft NFL, these dudes play "football" but don't want to get crunched....Mark Bavaro showed he was a warrior...LET'S GO GIANTS!
That hit was late, and I love how it was a NINER who was injured on the play. And btw, it's not even a conversation between knowledgeable football fans: LT IS THE GREATEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME.
@dwedge914 He didnt shrug it off.. I remember that game and saw Bavaro go to the sidelines after that hit.. he was dazed. Only a guy as tough as him could have popped up like that. And I think Lott's hit was payback for the 20 yd drag
it is a cheapshot. It is what they call in hollywood 'gratuitous violence" it served no purpose except to intimidateor injure, it had no effect on the outcome of the play and whether that should be part of the game is infinitely debatable. There is hard hitting, and then there is late hitting.
The refs are calling defensless rec hit penalties when the receiver has the ball. You have to hit him. I understand if the ball is 5 feet over his head then don't hit them, but with the ball? Cmon
You wonder why QB's put up gaudy stats now days? Because the game is soft...I'd like to see one of these primadonnas jump up like Bavaro did after Lott took him to the cleaners.
but its funny when bavaro drug lott and two other player with him 10 extra yards. lott would deliver blows when receivers didnt know it but face a guy head on like bavaro he gets owned
One of the best defensive games I've ever witnessed. This was a Monday night game late in the season, and I believe both teams were 12-1 or 11-1. The Giants won the Super Bowl this season, but in the two contests against the 49ers, the Giants failed to cross the Niners' goal line. Only field goals in two games. Great defenses from both teams. The NFL was a better product then.
@mathscripter Both teams were 10-1 at this point as my 49ers won this game but would lose the NFC Title game to the Giants who would win the Super Bowl over the Bills.
Intense Defensive teams. This goes to show you why the NFC was so dominate back then.
@haroof No doubt Bavaro was a great football player and tough to boot. If I recall, however, this video is simply called "Ronnie Lott hit on Mark Bavaro" not "Mark Bavaro shows off his toughness and takes a hit like a champ." Point I'm trying to make is the description of the video if completely accurate, whereas your comment was out of spite.
@squalie2 Yeah the league is unwatchable at times. I don't watch as much as I use to. Word out there this is about money but game ratings are down. Eagles VS Giants I heard is down 15%
@skywalker7327 I hope the ratings go down further so they can end the salary cap, and teams can BUILD titans like these two teams again..Monday Night Football is garbage now..
Chicken shit cheapshot! Real smart taking out your own teammate. Must've been payback for when Bavaro dragged Lott and the 49ers D for 15 yards. Look how Bavaro gets up like the Undertaker afterwards!
ny giants fans are pathetic... check the super bowls.... how can anyone say you that was a dirty hit??? be happy roger craig fumbled and stfu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad Lott took the brunt and was one of two 49ers that got hurt on their (now illegal) antics. Bavaro was fine and never showed any affects. Waymer was wrecked. Lott was shaken up, maybe with a concussion. But then again, Lott was a stupid, one-dimensional player that never used his brain anyway. Bavaro was and always will be "the man". It's why Lott & Co tried to hurt him and take him out of the game.
@graciemaemarie11 That Bum went on to drag Ronnie Lott's punk ass in the NFC Title game that year which the GMEN won and this week Jake Ballard is going to carry Patrick Willis' bum ass when the GMEN whoop the Niners
@TheModogg89 What r u gunna do about it fine Ronnie Lott? Fuckin pussy, this guy is a legend, He doesnt care about what some fat fuck eating his cheetos thinks about his carreer, go suck on a gogurt passout and die u fat miserable cockmaster
Mark Bavaro was one of those guys who'll never be in the hall of fame but you remember because they were so damn tough. I was a Niner fan but was always loved watching Bavaro. I remember a play where he was dragging 4 guys down the field.
These were the days of the NFL when you could still hit! And not dirty either, the hit was totally legal. Lott would let his playing and hitting do the talking, he didn't need to dance around or showoff. Receivers were free game back then when a ball was tipped or overthrown. I tell ya, the 70's and 80's were the best NFL ever was. The game is a joke compared to today. They played harder, studied the game more seriously, paid more attention to fundamentals, and the coaches actually COACHED.
I'm a Cowboys fan, but I'll tell ya, I respected Bavaro as a receiver, and I respected the Giants from the 80's. Bavaro was like a truck, tough as they come and just a great player. And Bavaro played the game without any dancing or trashtalking, he just PLAYED his ass off and did his job.
It was always fun on Sundays way back in the 80's to watch NFC East matchups, no matter who was playing the division was so competitive and fierce, it was awesome. Eagles, Giants, Cowboys, Cardinals.
You all notice how Ronnie Lott didn't get up and start doing a stupid ass dance or anything?.....and you notice you Bavaro just jumped and toughed it out and game continued? This is the era when they played the game for sake of the GAME, not for making music videos or showing off. And they made a HELL of alot less money compared with today. I feel bad for young people who only know the NFL since like the year 2000. You missed the best decades of the game, without doubt!
that hit wasnt all that great. announcers just made it sound like it was a big hit. look up some hits by Dick Butckus, now THOSE are hits. This is pee wee shit.
@sexybeast507 Yes, I'm fully aware. I voted to put him there. Surprised you were alive (unless you had to look it up) with your sophomoric responses.
No one cares about 2007 anymore, MUCH LESS 1994 or anything in the 80s.
Fact of the matter, which is ALL I initially said. We killed Montana twice and were the only team to give the 49ers a run from 1984-1994. Take the dusty Super Bowl bragging elsewhere.
@TheEsquire212 Roger Craig handed you the championship game in 1990. Oh, btw, we won 5 SBs during that period, and you didnt give anyone a run for shit.
@erdumptin "Handed". Typical response from a fan who felt entitled to his team's "inevitable" success. Much like Patriots fans who are still in denial about 2007. The Giants beat SF every other time they played in the mid-late 80s, leading up to the 1990 game. Considering we were without Simms, I will not hear about the BS about Craig's fumble. Two legends combined to cause the fumble and recover it. Knock it off with your bullshit.
@steelcash thats true. i dont get the whole defenseless arguement, the receiver is always looking at the ball when its in the air the defensive back will try to dislodge the ball regardless. its not the responsibility of the db to make sure the receiver is ready to get hit
Hard hitting safetys are extinct in todays NFL. Hits like that now will have the player suspended or fined. Hard hitting safetys were an asset back then in pass defense because receivers feared going across the middle. Now, receivers are going across the middle like they are in Disneyland because they don't fear getting hit. Now, NFL teams are drafting cornerbacks and converting them to safetys because the hard hitting safetys are now useless.
To me Mr. Ronny Lott is the all time greatest hitter in the secondary. not only did he have speed but he had a outstanding football IQ sometime he run along side a receiver and let them catch the ball just to blow them up. A footbal leadgen
@mXmVideos Hahahaha, I was going to talk shit to you, but then I saw your picture, hahahahahahaha. Nothing I can say to you can make you look as stupid as that picture. And you post videos of yourself playing video games, and you are 32, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Loser.
@mXmVideos What the fuck are you talking about faggot? No one wants anything from your white-trash-trying-to-be-black ass. Grown man posting videos of himself playing video games... I bet your parents are proud, you failure at life.
I would give this a million thumbs u sadly i cannot. Evidently Lott today wouldnt even have a job on the field...Tyrrel Suggs once said 4 years ago that soon the NFL will be two hand touch. He is almost right.
Big time 49ers fan. Miss these days of football. Love Ronnie Lott. Unfortunately or fortunately for today receivers, that hit would be a penalty in the NFL now.
Its crazy to hear announcer Dierdorf talk about about the Lott hit as a clean hit with his "Bam!" comment and rightfully so it was but in todays game its a fine, ejection, suspension a visit to Goodell's office to kiss his ass that you dont get suspended for the season,Announcers like Dierdorf in todays game talk about every hit as a possible"oh he will get fined for that",The game was much better before it became fine football

I feel bad for young people who only know the NFL since like the year 2000. You missed the best decades of the game, without doubt!

did you see how fast bavaro got up? same guy who dragged ronnie lott a few years previous to this.
idster7 4 months ago
this beautifull hit would be illegal now. The NFL and Goddell suck!!!!
buckwheat40 4 months ago
It was often said that as a receiver, you had two concerns:
1) What route am I running.
2) Where is Ronnie Lott.
jydaflyest 4 months ago 11
@jydaflyest atwater was feared just as much back in those days. Just ask Christian Okoye

@pbtime78 dick butckus was great. but accusing ronnie lott of peewee hits? really? you are out of your damn mind.

Bavaro gets right up. Waymer got the worst of it. 49er fans are a joke. WE KILLED MONTANA TWICE. HOW ABOUT THAT.
TheEsquire212 5 months ago
@TheEsquire212 shut up bitch, giants fans are a joke. WE HAVE 5 SUPER BOWLS. HOW ABOUT THAT.
sexybeast507 5 months ago
@sexybeast507 And none in almost 20 years, and you probably only saw the last one, judging by the juvenile retort.
TheEsquire212 5 months ago
@TheEsquire212 almost 20 years and we still have more than New York
sexybeast507 5 months ago
@sexybeast507 and no one cares nor sees relevance in 2011. We at LEAST won something since the last 3 presidents were in office.
TheEsquire212 5 months ago
@TheEsquire212 do you even know who the last 3 presidents were? The 49ers won a super bowl in 94, when Bill Clinton was in office
sexybeast507 5 months ago
@sexybeast507 Yes, I'm fully aware. I voted to put him there. Surprised you were alive (unless you had to look it up) with your sophomoric responses.
No one cares about 2007 anymore, MUCH LESS 1994 or anything in the 80s.
Fact of the matter, which is ALL I initially said. We killed Montana twice and were the only team to give the 49ers a run from 1984-1994. Take the dusty Super Bowl bragging elsewhere.
TheEsquire212 5 months ago
@TheEsquire212 Roger Craig handed you the championship game in 1990. Oh, btw, we won 5 SBs during that period, and you didnt give anyone a run for shit.
erdumptin 5 months ago
@erdumptin "Handed". Typical response from a fan who felt entitled to his team's "inevitable" success. Much like Patriots fans who are still in denial about 2007. The Giants beat SF every other time they played in the mid-late 80s, leading up to the 1990 game. Considering we were without Simms, I will not hear about the BS about Craig's fumble. Two legends combined to cause the fumble and recover it. Knock it off with your bullshit.
TheEsquire212 5 months ago
@erdumptin funny, you talk like you were a part of that team or something.

I saw a play of Bavaro dragging Lott when he was actually looking...hits on unaware guys are WAY overrated
takeospikeslive 5 months ago
clean hit. both players were tough as hell and have my respect
morrieswigs 5 months ago
@morrieswigs It was a clean hit. But by todays standards, it was helmet to helmet AND the receiver was defenseless (this sport is a joke anymore).
steelcash 5 months ago
@steelcash thats true. i dont get the whole defenseless arguement, the receiver is always looking at the ball when its in the air the defensive back will try to dislodge the ball regardless. its not the responsibility of the db to make sure the receiver is ready to get hit
morrieswigs 5 months ago
I yelled the F word at work watching this hit. Now I have to go see HR, thanks a lot...
fusiongtdotcom 5 months ago
that would have been a hefty fine in today's NFL
allstarchris1 5 months ago
that play is illegal now...Lott would have had to 2 hand touch his ass to have made it legal in 2011/2012....the NFL got SOFT
hiphoplegend1 6 months ago
Hard hitting safetys are extinct in todays NFL. Hits like that now will have the player suspended or fined. Hard hitting safetys were an asset back then in pass defense because receivers feared going across the middle. Now, receivers are going across the middle like they are in Disneyland because they don't fear getting hit. Now, NFL teams are drafting cornerbacks and converting them to safetys because the hard hitting safetys are now useless.
Hoching03 6 months ago
To me Mr. Ronny Lott is the all time greatest hitter in the secondary. not only did he have speed but he had a outstanding football IQ sometime he run along side a receiver and let them catch the ball just to blow them up. A footbal leadgen
