Wow. For one the baby will not suffocate inside the mother if she doesn't push it out like in five seconds, it's still got its umbilical cord intact. How do you think it survived in there for the entire gestation period? It wasn't holding its breath. And second, you never pull the baby unless it's some kind of emergency or a vet says so and you sure as hell don't play tug of war with it like this guy was doing. You could break the foal's legs and even injure the mother. Get a clue.

I was shocked at the way the man tried to help the mare by pulling the foals legs out of the mother. I have been present for and and only had to help assist with a few deliverys out of over 20 mares foaling.First, when you do assist the mare you pull the foals legs downward toward the hocks - not straight out - and second, you only pull at the same time the mare is having a contraction - not continually as this man did! I know you posted he means well but he needs to be more careful!

@joshuaguitarman If you look properly you'll see she did actually tire very quickly. Normally a natural birth is better but a responsible owner keeps a close watch for in case. I have more argument to his method. I was taught with a fair few kinds of animal and all of them you pull with the contractions, he pulled constantly, that increases risk of uterine prolapse. He also pulls at an angle, that can rip the wall of the vagina on the anal side, not pretty.

That man pullin the foal was helpin the momma - it was obvious she was tired + the baby was still in the sac - we saw a foal die becos the farmer didn't step in til it was 2 late - It might ov looked harsh - but how relieved did the momma look afta - she knew her baby was safe - if she thought othawise - she'd ov got up 2 protect it - this is nature + it was all dun correctly !!!!!! @jailstevens i agree, it would be heartbreaking to see a foul die just because it couldn't get out of its sac, but in nature, there are no farmers to help a mother give birth to her foul. They are meant to be able to give birth by themselves. For example, a mother bird will never help her young chick get out of its egg because if the chick cant do it on his/her own then it means that its not strong enough to survive in nature. Rules of nature can be harsh but thats what it is.
