Holly? MCP? HAL? Those are a stretch for the description of "robot." An artificial intelligence isn't the same as a robot, and that's all those three were, immobile, fixed, and physically-dependant, little more than advanced calculators, all three had limited means to observe remotely, but unable to venture outside. Kit nearly qualifies the same, but just has wheels instead of feet. Holly's remote isn't "him."
Oz's Tinman? Insofar Oz was Dorothy's dream, he was a living being, not a robot.
can someone help me out here? "Andy the Android @ 2:58 is from what short lived TV show with Richard Benjamin there? I remember this but seem to be the only one but there's a shot from it right there
Nice list, good to see old V.I.N.C.E.N.T and B.O.B again, but you seem to miss the Screamers mk. I, II and III in particular (the child version) (from the movie screamers). Though it of cause could be because you did not feel they should be there. And Marvin from Hitchhikers was he on the list?
Finally I dont think that agents can count since they only exist inside a computer program as a antivirus. Otherwise good job!
Coolness is a matter of taste. But - the Terminator is always described as a cyborg, even though he doesn't seem to need the flesh parts. And the Tin Man started off human but gradually had to replace bits of himself with metal, so I'd say that made him a cyborg as well!
@mokwella Really? What do they expect robots to be if not AIs? I have to say though, I didn't expect any bioroids (such as the new "skinjob" Cylons) to appear on the list, but no complains. Also, the "Robot Owl From Clash of Titans" is named Bubo.
@mokwella Do replicants count as robots? I mean, well, they ARE synthetics but they're "meat robots". Grown not built. Just curious where you draw the line. Otherwise :awesome vid.
You were almost forgiven for putting Hector as number 100 by having Robby at #1.
However you had the Heart Beeps robots ahead of Hector. You should be made to watch Heart Beeps over and over until your eyes bleed.(which would be halfway through the first showing)
When I saw "SIX" i expected to see Six from "Tripping the Rift".
And yes, D.A.R.R.Y.L. should have definitely been on the list.
What, no Darryl from D.A.R.R.Y.L. but yet you have some obscure trash compactor robots. The ones you told where they were from were the ones I knew but then several of the others I did not recognize and there was no explantion where they were from. Still enjoyed the video.
It's a matter of taste, and I much prefer "Fish, and plankton, and sea greens and protein from the sea." to "This is such a drag.", "Oh my!" and "DIE, Jedi dogs. Oh... what did I say?"
lets clear things up for people. Robot-is a mechanical contraption which can perform tasks on its own, or with guidance. In our terms a AI control body. Android= a robot that looks human. Bionic= human augmented by robotics to To enhance life or ability. Hook it to a ship or factor and they become the body making them ify as to be robots. Droid = robots though more often have a humanoid body. 2 legs maybe arms. Wile a robot can be a single arm or even a vacuum cleaner. Drone= a vehicular body often in air or space with a a.i. & remote control.Biodroid= a clone with a removed or remote control A.I.
@Destro7000 Real ify hal brother on earth for sure is just a A.I.. yet Hal has a body which is the hole ship. This fits a robot by definition a large one. Think of the SDF1 from robotech. Yet you sample of Agent smith is spot on for A.I. no body and part of a larger system. Yet say smith transferred himself in a Sentinel. he now be a robot.
@alperloos Yeah you missed a lot. There are 4 books, the Monoliths are robotic Tools left behind by the Firstborn. HALMAN gives them a computer virus to kill them off at the end.
@Destro7000 Fuck me, I want to write my bachelor work about computer logic in cinema and 2001 is of course essential... I only read the first book... so I have a fuckton of work ahead :)
@alperloos hehe, yeah got a fair bit of reading material ahead of you I guess! But yeah, to truly understand why HAL did the things he did you should at least read the 2nd book (2010:Odyssey Two) and after that book he becomes HALMAN when he mixes with David Bowman.

@ClanWolf99 No, no and no. Vader is a Cyborg (part man part machine), so is Grevious...and since when did Maul have a "robotic waist"? Didn't see THAT in Episode 1... Cyborg=part mechanical, part organic, Robot=all mechanical, Android=robot programmed to look/act and/or think that it is Human
@wasp27 hey maul has robotic waist! look it up! you dont see them in ep1 and just before ep 4 he attacks luke when he's kinda small but obi wan (ben) attacks him. And he's holding his sabre up to mauls neck, and he's hesitating to kill him when... LUKES UNCLE GRABS A RIFLE AND BLOWS MAULS HEAD OFF!!!!! LITRALLY!!!! IT ROLLED AWAY ON THE FLOOR!!!

@66dizzy= Seven of Nine was born human, and became a borg, and became, mostly human again;.She was never a robot. She was a cyborg. Still, I would have loved to see an honorary mention. Great video.
The W.O.P.R. is not a robot, but a combat computer. But glad you mentioned RUK and Andrea from the Star Trek episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of..."
Obviously too much to like to have anything in real order... but I have to like Rachel from Blade Runner forever. Proud to say I liked the film long before the cult following too...Thanks for putting together this very entertaining list!!
loved the list but how coul you forget about tweedle dee and tweedle dum the planet fall droids from andromeda, I know they were onyl in 2 episodes but they were crazy.

Thanks for the vid. I would include the robot from "Electric Dreams." (Elmer?) I want to include Elektro, too, but he wasn't in any movies, AFAIK. youtube.com/watch?v=T35A3g_GvSg
That was cool!! You had really old ones like Tobor the great and Gort you had the B9 robot, which in my opinion is the best by the way, You even had Vincent and Old Bob from THE BLACK HOLE.
Was Proteus from "The Demon Seed" left out on purpose, or did you just forget? Kudos for having Hector from "Saturn 3" though. And why no Maximilian when you had Vincent and Bob from "The Black Hole"?
@PaladinSL Further to that, the original raiders were piloted by other cylons, and the heavy raiders from 2003 were piloted by skinjobs, even the base-stars were run by an organic central control hybrid.
sorry, just finished watching the two series' couldn't help but get my nerd on XD
@ButchBearBoyAtl - The Replicants from Blade Runner weren't robots, they were genetically - engineered human beings. The " skin - job " Cylons from RDM's Battlestar Galactica weren't robots or androids either, although they evolved from the metal Cylons.
" Galaxina " - Dorothy Stratton - should've been included. " Cherry " from " Cherry 2000 " should've been included = Cult favorites.
the replicants from Blade runner and the human cylons where more like programed humans than machines also the MCP and agent smith where programs I don't think they should have been included also the terminator was described as a cybornetic organism in the first movie but very good
Forgot some goood ones: 'The Colossus of New York', 'Gog', the robot in the Outer Limits that gives his 'life' saving a girl from a car, Robert Culp in the Outer Limits, the robots in 'Target Earth'.
does anyone know what the movie was called? Where 2 kids build a robot for their science project and the ghost of their dad takes it over, it's a family film?
I see there are always people looking to mention what was omitted. It's top 100 after all, not all robots in movies and tV. Good call on the Holmes and Yoyo deal. I thought I was the only one who remembered that show. Thanks for the list.
Where is daneel??? from asimov

That was cool!! You had really old ones like Tobor the great and Gort you had the B9 robot, which in my opinion is the best by the way, You even had Vincent and Old Bob from THE BLACK HOLE.

Buffybot???
mrp805 1 year ago
Was Proteus from "The Demon Seed" left out on purpose, or did you just forget? Kudos for having Hector from "Saturn 3" though. And why no Maximilian when you had Vincent and Bob from "The Black Hole"?

Technically Cylon raiders are Cyborgs;
"A cyborg, also known as a cybernetic organism, is a being with both biological and artificial (e.g. electronic, mechanical or robotic) parts"
PaladinSL 1 year ago
@PaladinSL Further to that, the original raiders were piloted by other cylons, and the heavy raiders from 2003 were piloted by skinjobs, even the base-stars were run by an organic central control hybrid.
sorry, just finished watching the two series' couldn't help but get my nerd on XD
PaladinSL 1 year ago
Some of then where only computers and one of then was a artifcal preson.
ButchBearBoyAtl 1 year ago
@ButchBearBoyAtl - The Replicants from Blade Runner weren't robots, they were genetically - engineered human beings. The " skin - job " Cylons from RDM's Battlestar Galactica weren't robots or androids either, although they evolved from the metal Cylons.
" Galaxina " - Dorothy Stratton - should've been included. " Cherry " from " Cherry 2000 " should've been included = Cult favorites.

You forgot Robocop and "Uniblob" (The Jetsons)

Did I blink and miss the Daleks?
need2bereading 1 year ago
@need2bereading The Daleks weren't robots, they weren't even Cyborgs, they were an organism -piloting- a suit.

Like your number one pick. I doing a tribute guitar to robbie right now. check it out at sharkinlay
SharkInlay 1 year ago
the replicants from Blade runner and the human cylons where more like programed humans than machines also the MCP and agent smith where programs I don't think they should have been included also the terminator was described as a cybornetic organism in the first movie but very good

@winstonsmi erm dude can u read or u struggleing it says top 100 robots not top 100 cyborgs
sheffguy29 1 year ago
I see there are always people looking to mention what was omitted. It's top 100 after all, not all robots in movies and tV. Good call on the Holmes and Yoyo deal. I thought I was the only one who remembered that show. Thanks for the list.
