In Canada circumcision isn't as common, in some provinces its like 9% of babies have the procedure done to them. I have a friend who wants to do it so their son can avoid ridicule, but statistically, 2 out of 3 boys in Canada are not circumcised, so I don't understand the worry.
Really great doco. I felt that because of his Jewish background he was as unbiased as it gets. And I feel he had fair arguments for each side. Circumstances are what you are born into. People do what comes normal to them, not to say that it is right for everyone. The men in my family were all circumcised and naturally I opted for my son to be circumcised. That was almost 40 years ago. Today, I would have to think real hard about that option. My son has yet to say that he wished I had not made the decision for him. As parents we often make choices that come back for review later in time. We all have things we would change.

As far as doing it for reasons of faith, circumcising a baby is just a sacrificial act by the parents. It has nothing to do with that child's faith or what that child wants for their own future.

I had to be circumcised for health reason: phimosis. It was after puberty, and it hurted like hell. So it'll hurt a baby too if not done with local anesthesic
So this procedure can be done once it's the person choice, not his parents. I'm sure people with phimosis or partial phimosis will prefer to be cut, and not be hated, seriously
Phimosis is just an excuse for Circumcision since the skin has to be torn from the glans before the foreskin is cut so they might as well just separate it from the glans and pull it back instead of cutting the whole foreskin off.

I'm about 17 minutes in and I feel I just need to post my thoughts. I am Jewish and I agree with circumcision as a Jewish practice. I personally believe that if one is not Jewish than the baby should not be circumcised for any reason whatsoever. Do you feel that it is that important for parents to impose their religion on their child that they should ignore the fact that they are causing a newborn excruciating pain? Do you know what it's like to have a deep cut in your skin? I had sharp stabbing pains for over two years where I had been cut for surgery. This was not a spot on my body that moved frequently or was tampered with often, but the pain was severe.
First of all, I'm sorry you don't understand my point of view. If a parent wishes for their child to be circumcised for religious purposes, than I think it's ok. If they're not Jewish, I think it's pointless. I am circumcised and do not regret it. I have had my leg cut open to the bone from an accident and wisdom teeth pulled. @TheHobyah That's doesn't reverse most of the damage done. The frenulum and ridged band will never be restored through tugging. What is restored is more skin to cover the glans, allowing it to shed the excess skin protecting it from abrasive clothing, and allowing it to stay lubricated at all times. The restored foreskin gliding over the glans offers more stimulation as well, but tugging will never return everything lost.
Foregen is working on starting trials to regenerate foreskin though.

Female circumcision, on the other hand, is identical to male circumcision - it is the removal of the prepuce, which for women is the clitoral hood. Female circumcision is surprisingly common, and it is certainly not restricted to the purpose of preventing sexual stimulation. I am not arguing that it is good, though.

Don't get your children circumcissed unless its really medically necessary. Otherwise it can lead to complications and resentment. I was circumcised due to religious reason and now I am really unhappy because I have problems with a condition called "keratinization of the penile glans" where the glans of your penis become dry, wrinkled and brittle and lose sensitivity. I laso developed painful spots on my glans that burn and hurt from chaffing whenever underwear and shorts rub against it.

All babies are born with a condition called physiological phimosis, which is natural and completely normal. The foreskin and the glans will separate with time and the child may get injured if the doctor or the parents try to lower the foreskin down. The complete separation of the glans and the foreskin will be done in puberty.
No need to cut off healthy erogenous tissue, no need to mutilate babies and vulnerating not only their bodies, but also their fundamental and human rights.

In Canada circumcision isn't as common, in some provinces its like 9% of babies have the procedure done to them. I have a friend who wants to do it so their son can avoid ridicule, but statistically, 2 out of 3 boys in Canada are not circumcised, so I don't understand the worry.

Circumstances are what you are born into. People do what comes normal to them, not to say that it is right for everyone. The men in my family were all circumcised and naturally I opted for my son to be circumcised. That was almost 40 years ago. Today, I would have to think real hard about that option. My son has yet to say that he wished I had not made the decision for him. As parents we often make choices that come back for review later in time. We all have things we would change.

As far as doing it for reasons of faith, circumcising a baby is just a sacrificial act by the parents. It has nothing to do with that child's faith or what that child wants for their own future.

im not circumcised but for ppl that arent circumcised, be a little appreciative that u r cuz being uncircumcised isnt that great. sometimes it gets pretty damn dry down there n it gets ashy. and in order to clean it, u gotta pull it down until the edges of the glans are showing and wash it(its pretty hard pulling it down all the way when ur hard btw). and also the problem with being uncircumcised is that ur glans are so sensitive that its not even pleasurable. but id still prolly rather be uncut

I had to be circumcised for health reason: phimosis. It was after puberty, and it hurted like hell. So it'll hurt a baby too if not done with local anesthesic
So this procedure can be done once it's the person choice, not his parents. I'm sure people with phimosis or partial phimosis will prefer to be cut, and not be hated, seriously

Phimosis is just an excuse for Circumcision since the skin has to be torn from the glans before the foreskin is cut so they might as well just separate it from the glans and pull it back instead of cutting the whole foreskin off.

I'm about 17 minutes in and I feel I just need to post my thoughts. I am Jewish and I agree with circumcision as a Jewish practice. I personally believe that if one is not Jewish than the baby should not be circumcised for any reason whatsoever. I don't believe circumcision has any medical purpose and I don't understand why a non Jew would circumcise their baby. My boyfriend is uncircumcised and I would never ask him to be. He's not Jewish, so I don't see the point.

Do you feel that it is that important for parents to impose their religion on their child that they should ignore the fact that they are causing a newborn excruciating pain? Do you know what it's like to have a deep cut in your skin? I had sharp stabbing pains for over two years where I had been cut for surgery. This was not a spot on my body that moved frequently or was tampered with often, but the pain was severe.

If they're not Jewish, I think it's pointless. I am circumcised and do not regret it. I have had my leg cut open to the bone from an accident and wisdom teeth pulled. @TheHobyah That's doesn't reverse most of the damage done. The frenulum and ridged band will never be restored through tugging. What is restored is more skin to cover the glans, allowing it to shed the excess skin protecting it from abrasive clothing, and allowing it to stay lubricated at all times. The restored foreskin gliding over the glans offers more stimulation as well, but tugging will never return everything lost.
Foregen is working on starting trials to regenerate foreskin though.

I think I found a new respect for Jewish culture. They're so much more realistic than Muslims, on average. If you ask a Muslim about circumcision the majority will ignore you, and pretend that circumcision is all good, and god tells us to do it for all the benefit. If you ask a Jewish person the majority acknowledge the truth of the matter. I will not let my son get circumcised, and I hope more people recognize this procedure is harmful.

I'm 16, and recently I've left Islam (December), and the foreskin thing, along with Noah's ark, the killing of apostates, and the fact Allah is a malevolent un-moral war god has made me leave the religion. @Crenepo Of course you can compare. Female circumcision is only one form of genital mutilation. You are thinking of the form in which the entire clitoris and the labia are cut off. Female circumcision, on the other hand, is identical to male circumcision - it is the removal of the prepuce, which for women is the clitoral hood. Female circumcision is surprisingly common, and it is certainly not restricted to the purpose of preventing sexual stimulation. I am not arguing that it is good, though.

You can wash smegma off, how lazy can you be. Smegma is better for the skin it lubricates and keeps the penis soft and protected from germs, otherwise you would have to put lotion on to keep it from drying up and getting wrinkled.

@Swisrya It's generally a ritual performed on seven year old boys. Just because some of them perform it on babies doesn't mean that's the general time when it's performed. In American culture, however, doing it later is considered 'too painful'.
And those young boys are pretty much brainwashed into believing it's an important part of life. They believe that the ritual is what makes them men. So in that sense, they are consenting to it because they don't know better.

Don't get your children circumcissed unless its really medically necessary. Otherwise it can lead to complications and resentment. I was circumcised due to religious reason and now I am really unhappy because I have problems with a condition called "keratinization of the penile glans" where the glans of your penis become dry, wrinkled and brittle and lose sensitivity. I laso developed painful spots on my glans that burn and hurt from chaffing whenever underwear and shorts rub against it.

The Jews are certainly entitled to their religious beliefs and practices but I don't understand why they can't wait with circumcision until their male infants are fully matured adults and able to decide for themselves whether they want to accept any covenant with their God.

@bigjared420 some fucked up reason. Also, you don't know all the people commenting on this video, so don't assume this is ALL people do with their time. One person may be a social worker that works 80 hours a week to help their clients, another may be a doctor who has seen botched circs, another maybe a volunteer that builds houses for the homeless. Just because this documentary made, and people commented on it, doesn't mean it should be disregarded.

@bigjared420 lol the entire united states mutilates their male children. We are disgusted when we hear about places where they perform female circumcision, but we consider male circumcision a totally normal thing. There will always be something "more important" than any issue....

This was brilliant. Very well done and I learned some things I did not know before. Very painful to watch the babies being circumcised though - I question how a compassionate doctor, taught to relieve suffering, not cause it, could do that to another human.

@chromesthesia They do it without a religious reason because it has been ingrained in our society over the course of several years. Most people alive today didn't live through the times when circumcision was nothing more than a religious rite. They are led to believe there is a real benefit to it.
I've found that most people also readily accept anything their doctor says even though they are the ones who benefit financially from performing surgery, administering drugs, etc.

To have a party while abusing a child is unacceptable today and all for a Bronze Age Faith System which can be proved to be a myth. If one did this in any other circumstances the police would be called and prison the penalty.
