As much as I love Henrietta Onodi, Lord knows I do, my only critique is that her leaps seemed to never really rise. Like she doesn't plie into her lunging leg on take off. My only critique. In my humble opinion she is def one of the greatest floor workers ever, so far. :)
You see it quite often in dancers as well. Some people are born with a natural spring, and the ability to jump. It depends on what type of muscles you have, some muscle fibres are long/ "slow" and some are short/ "quick". I don't think Onodi didn't have a natural springy jump ability but she sure had other qualities that made her an excellent world class gymnast
@tedsler I believe Onodi had quick twitch muscles. If you look at her calves they are short and round and powerful. Her optional routine was quite difficult not to have qucik muscles. Look at her vault, you can't vault that high without fast fibers. BTW, I completely agree with you on your last statement. She had the "look" of a world class gymnast that the judges loved. She was/is beautiful. She was thin yet powerful, she had/has grace, the list goes on.
@priscilla280 she wasn't she won the gold in vault and the silver on floor and she qualified to all 4 finals, which only milo was the other gymnast to qualify to all event finals.
@Holycani Correction....Milo and Shannon Miller were the only two to qualify to all 4 event finals. Henrietta did not qualify to beam finals, she fell in team optionals.
This routine was MILES better than Bogi's. This was, in my opinion, a 10. Bogi's piked arabian is too hollow/didn't show a deep enough pike, and Bogi also side stepped her full-pirouette final pose. This routine, though---I can't find a deduction!!!!
I thought her leg was slightly loose when she slid into splits after the scale but that was pretty minimal. It really was a stunning routine and I thought it was better than Boginskaia's too.
Onodi and Boginskaya were by far the best dancers of the 92 Olympics on floor. Unlike Boginskaya, Onodi could keep up with the very best tumblers: Gutsu, Bontas, Tshusovitina, and Milo though, which made her the best floor worker of 92 in my opinion.
the sentimental favorite? i think she is more than a sentiment. she is the real thing. she has some things to teach the russians and the romanians. like grace and execution. she has just the right amount of bounce on the floor. the right amount of flexibility on the beam. the right amount of extension on the bars and the right amount of strength on the horse.
Beautiful! Is crazy to think that she just get the 3º higher score on the floor compulsories (9.937). Svetlana Boginskaya score 9.975 and Cristina Bontas 9.950.
That piked arabian was so high... Onodi was an extremely special gymnast - such grace, poise and expression and she was also so powerful!

It's true, she never did, and it drives me nuts to know that was the difference between her being super great and PHENOMENAL. :)
