  • This is what happens when you use Sauron's ring.

  • @Mdxbhmt lol

  • Behold!

  • love is the fountain of youth.

if youve loved youll live forever.

why didnt she tell me that when my response was "im not sure you really do"

  • this must only be watched on blu ray. But SHOULD be watched by all. I don't think ive ever been so affected by a movie in my life. It is artwork. It is my favorite film, and is how films should be made.

  • I find it so difficult to understand this film.... someone please briefly explain to me

  • @PersonX15 I think in order to truly grasp what this movie is trying to convey you need to first start asking yourself the bigger questions... like what life is about? who we really are? why we're here? is there an after life and if so what is it? This movie plays on all of these ideas but the messages are hidden symbolically through the three linked stories... at least that's my interpretation of it... I think it's best you decide your own

  • @PersonX15

    ill repeat

"love is the fountain of youth"

you could be a brain-surgeon who finds a tree of life to cure brain tumor cancer.

but theres no comparing this to having the love of your life the free and loving Izzy by your side.

and you really only realize this when its too late.

so you find yourself poisoning yourself with ink while crying after finishing her book "the fountain"

then you have a death-hallucinating / metaphor-filled ending that is this clip

  • I watched this movie about a week ago, and havent stopped thinking about it scince. It's beautiful enough to make you heart race, sad enough for you to feel pain and interesting enough to make the thoughts and ideas of this movie circle your brain.

The music, is so much more than music and the visual effects are beyond the essence of beauty.

    Beautiful.

  • Just can't get enough of this masterpiece

  • The thing I love most about this film is the way he swears he will find a cure to death... then we fast-forward a few centuries, and holy shit, he's actually done it. He started out as a normal modern-day human, and he achieved immortality and went on a cosmic quest. I find that powerful.

My one problem is... which tree is in the bubble with him? The original Tree of Life, or the one he planted over his wife's grave? I wish they could be the same somehow... it feels incomplete if it's only one.

  • @SPRLDR intressting here is he comes to the point where everthing ends and begin...

  • @SPRLDR

I dont' belive you should take the 3 storries as if they're linked, other than it's love betwean two beings. Meaning the "monk-like" charecter in the future ain't the same person mate.

I think this film should be watched as 3 total different stories. Nothing and everything is as it seems.

  • @GodHjort But what's more torturous and liberating than love? This film does represent multiple sides of love, multiple possibilities....some beautiful and improbable possibilities that they who love one another will comprehend each other's moment of demise. The point of cinema is often to provide this depiction despite the disbelief, those thoughts that we may see each other through to an ideal end. Do I believe they are possible? Sometimes I hope. Sometimes I know better.

  • @birthofeternity

    THANK YOU

this whole movie is a metaphor.

if the literal meaning is "the fountain of youth: immortality"

then the metaphor and answer is a simple "love"

  • @GodHjort One of the great things about The Fountain is how open to interpretation it is. You may choose to view the film as a collection of three separate stories, but I prefer to think that the three stories are linked, and that the conquistador was reincarnated into the scientist, who gained immortality and became the astronaut. Everyone who watches this film walks away with their own take on it.

  • @SPRLDR Since *SPOILERS* near the end of the film the seed is buried upon the grave in the snow, i think it is a symbolic or maybe true reincarnation of the tree that the knight/doctor previously died through and does die with....A seed is thrown where a body lies, who is not to think that some part grows into the tree if it does grow? I often think how the molecules of earth chemically intermingle.

  • goooooddddd.... the tree of life blooming then burning out in 10 seconds.... that's so heavy

  • I just watched this movie. AMAZING!!! I can't beleive I missed it for so long. Great video.

  • love how it got the worst reviews and was booed at a screening... what an ignorant simple minded society we live in.

  • When one love dies, another is born..

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

  • enlightenment - SURPRISE !!!

  • This part of the movie almost made me JUMP OUT OF MY SEAT the first time I saw it - LOL

  • Great Best wishes for the New Year too.

  • this movie left me like a shit , i'm proken now cause of it.

  • Probably my most favourite film scene ever... Powerful

  • 1:03

The dust from Tom's burning corpse brush through the tree, breathing life into it, just like the death of the First Father was the source of life for his Mayan descendants (Izzi talked about this in the Mayan exhibition).

Wow, that's what we call deep, gentlemen.

  • satori moment

  • 0:57

  • If feel this movie gives so many answers in so many ways. First time I watched this movie is was blown away. I watched it twice that day. Darren Aranofsky is a pure artist with images. Along with the amazing soundtrack, the way it makes you think about life and death, true love, and letting go of thinking in ways like good or false. You have to be some kind of spirtual person I guess to really feel this movie.

  • Check out those reptilian eyes as he heads to xibalba (shamballa) -the underworld palace of sanat kumara (Lucifuge Roffocale).

  • How do I die ? anybody ?

  • @MrBATO12

    <3

  • If there is a heaven it probably will sound like Clint Mansell's score to The Fountain...

  • we are all stardust

  • @DERAJ13 LOVE Sunshine ;) best movie imo

  • The image i get is of a man in a womb, ready to be born again or reincarnated. Xibalba seems to release him in what almost symbolizes a pregnant womans water breaking to give new life....The thing i love about this movie is that no answer is wrong.....it means so much! Beautiful!

  • His face when the lights die out, just as the star prepares for supernova, is perfect; it's the face of a man about to willingly face death after 500 years of fear.

  • universe is one.. life is infinite, everything has a end and beginning at the same time..

  • if you thought this was cool to watch... imagine what it's like to experience... ayahuasca or death or complete enlightenment can show you

  • @matter0ni ayahuasca is a taste of enlightment, a little spark that shows you what you can achieve.

It very often creates an temporary illusion of being enlighted which leads to false beliefs/theories afterwards.

It's a tool which you operate and too many people let it operate them by falling into a deep hole of excitment and curiosity.

Every trip is simbolic, it doesn't matter what you see or perceive really, it's a long way to go.

Most skillful shamans can't manage to complete that task

  • @Morr1992 have you ever experienced ayahuasca? (not an analogue of rue and mimosa/etc) -- have you ever been to the amazon and met any of the shamans?

  • @matter0ni I have a very experienced frriend who likes this kind of stuff. I tried ayahuasca 2 times back when it was legal to buy roots in UK, he helped with the extraction. I have experience with other psychedelics too, but in moderation.

I haven't met any shamans, but know people who are into their history. I'm planning to go to Brazil one day though.

  • awesome scene

  • solo la morte è eterna,come l'universo!!!!

  • Could somebody tell mir which Soundtrack this is?. I dont find it -.-

  • @XRaYSmoKeY It's called "Death Is The Road To Awe".

  • One of the strongest movie scenes I have ever seen

  • i wish i could die like this...

  • This is a symbologism of the englightment

  • @brucenash 0:58 enlightment - seeing everything????? i had a expirience like this,, please explain your thoughts on this

  • @eagletalons2007 read about osho and u will see what i mean

  • In real life he was working on a cure for his wife so she could live instead of spending the little time they have left together. He has to accept the fact that he doesn't need to live forever, which he realizes as the future self, at the very end. The past self shows how futile it was to try to live forever. What do you think?

  • @UltraEpicLoser I think you might be right!

  • The SOURCE of all

  • Cada vez que veo esta pelicula siemplemente puedo deicr

    Hermosa...

vida a través de la muerte...

  • This just makes me want to do acid.

  • Beautiful and stunning ending. Incredible film.

  • I can't think of a greater way to die than the center of a supernova explosion. Being at the epicenter of the most destructive force known, being vaporized and having your very being spread across space in one blinding moment visible to the entire universe. Sounds fitting.

  • @ramv36 sounds like a proper attention whore, joking aside, yes, amazing, bombastic

  • @arasharfa yeah, I was the youngest child....

  • @ramv36 im the middle child

  • @ramv36 That would break the explosion scale:

    - Small

    -Medium

    -Large

    -Huge

    -Ultra

    -Micheal Bay

    - Epic supernova explosion<< (:D

  • best 1.5 minutes of film

  • Man this scene was awsome !

  • love this soundtrack. Hugh Jackman is the best. love this story.

  • He finished the book, and accepted death and rebirth through the tree. Loved this movie Aronofsky is a great director.

  • Believe that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose again from the dead. He conquered death and through the gift of God's salvation found in Jesus Christ, we can conquer death and live in Heaven.

  • @19justinbrown88 Do you believe in an afterlife? Do you believe that God exists? Do you believe that God loves you, but hates sin? Do you believe that there is hope for us and that we can be forgiven of all our sins? ...............................................

How are we given forgiveness?.............. By repenting of our sins and admitting that we are sinners. By accepting Jesus Christ's death on the cross in your place and his blood to wash away your sins.

  • i didnt entirely get this movie, i guess they wanted that way. left up to interpretation. anyways..so the space hugh has been hurling through space with that tree? was he using the tree to live..? a journey like that would take many thousands(millions?) of years. after all that time of feasting upon the trees sap..it eventually died..? but the "power" was still within him? so he sacrificed himself so that his body particles would spread on the tree? lol.. idk

  • It's hard to explain with the character limits. Basically, that's him in the future after he plants the seed of the tree of life at his dead wife's grave. It grows into a huge tree, that he uses to keep himself alive so that he can travel to a dying star before it explodes because he believes that is the ultimate form of rebirth, and he believes him and his wife will be reincarnated after that. The tree dies RIGHT before he gets there, like his wife died RIGHT before he could cure her.

  • @wo0ty This goes back to how he finished the book for his wife, where the man finds the tree for the queen who promised if he found it they would both live forever. The doctor finally realizes how to finish the book like his wife asked him. The conquistador finds the tree, but instead of allowing him to live forever, it kills him. He realizes that to be with his wife, he has to die. He finally understands that death is a not a disease but a natural inevitable process.

  • Long hidden Fountain of Youth revealed :)

    There is no death :)))

  • Personally think he found a way to keep himself alive for all this time so that he could take his wife/girlfriend (the tree) to xibalba to be reborn. It is only in the final moments of the film where he finishes the book (in his mind, he doesnt have it on him), and has the old tom die drinking from the tree, this shows he finally accepts death. In this scene his ashes fall on the tree and it blooms, and grows. He accepts death and achieves his goal. After a long, long struggle.

  • Mmmmm.....THE ONE NESS is what my friends say when they watch it and then they say been there when they see the ending ......I sorta get it LOL

  • I WAS LOST.....but then I thought AWSOME PEACE OF WORK!!!!!!!

    I JUST FOUND IT INTRESTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this movie! Clint Mansel is the best with sound tracks!!!

  • I didn't really get this movie.. I didn't get the part where he drinks the sap from the tree and then he becomes a part of the earth.. that really confused me.

  • Reckon it's a sign of a good film where I didn't understand much of what was going on but still thought the film was pretty awesome.

  • @WarsawBlues He wanted to live forever. The only way to do that is to BECOME forever. He became the Earth and the tree. At least that is what I got out of it. Think of the body as a temporary prison and this movie becomes a little clearer and more personal.

  • for me, (i dont know if this is correct), he was about to die, he was himself, that old man, he watches in the hospital. in the moments before he died, he remembered what he went through, finished his wife's story, and finally dies, and reunite with her.

  • The Fountain love

    noend

  • XD should be a Asian dude well do that?

  • Most beautiful imagery in a film I have ever seen.

  • I wish Lost had an ending like this. They could have done something like this quite easily, given the story. Afterall, the show finished with a similar sentiment to The Fountain; all life comes from the Source. Lost's ending was emotional, but The Fountain's climax was so beautiful and poignant. It would have taken the show back to its philosiphical roots while tieing it together with the characters.

  • I love this movie it's so well done and is jackman's best work IMO

  • this proves one thing:

death is only a figment of life, life is only a figment of reality, reality is only a figment of a greater dream, a greater dream is only a figment of creation, creation is only a figment of death

  • 1:00 reptile eyes

  • @Ataturkistan so not true :)

  • @Zenboy23 u can see it also in 0:39 .

It reminds me of Reptile Humanoid. ppl say that, but I Dont Know if theres such a thing..

  • What if instead Adam and eve drank from the tree of life instead of knowlage

  • shouldnt he have been sucked in as well?

  • @Kable3141

I assume the following two conditions hold:

    (1) He is very far from the star.

    (2) He is traveling toward the star at close to the speed of light.

Time dilation explains the star's rapid evolution from his perspective. However, more questions are left open:

    (1) Why is the star's light in the visible spectrum?

    (2) Why do the particles pass the bubble so slowly?

The bubble technology could correct the blue shift. The particles may be traveling toward the star very rapidly.

  • @x1101011x the star is a methaphor, it was is deathbed's dream, no point in applying science hehe ;)

  • This is a very cool movie and the visuals are top notch. The plot does make one ponder the journey we are all on . The final destination we must all come to terms with and face alone.

  • This really does give me chills. Every time you watch it, a deeper layer is peeled. What I took from the movie is that through death we are reborn. We've become so preoccupied with looking young and pushing death away, that we have forgotten to die with grace. It is both tragic and enlightening." Through that last dark cloud is a dying star. And soon enough, Xibalbia will die. And when it explodes, it will be reborn. You will bloom... "

  • GENIAL!

  • Ya a bunch a dumbasses, it's called merkaba what he was doing is assending.

  • Such a stunning scene. There's plenty of Buddhist imagery and philosophy in this movie.

  • Yep. The impermanence of all there is, the constant cycle of death and rebirth etc... awesome film indeed.

  • @Phranky Plenty of religious imagery in general.

  • what the hell are you all talking about and what does it have to do with The Fountain?

  • @ 00:59 What is going on?

I see that he like burns away and the bubble burns away and the tree flourishes... I'm confused with this ending.

How did he come to accept death?

  • The tree is his wife and when he burns away as you said, his "essence" flows into the tree and thus the tree comes to life. He is finally reunited with his wife and together they live as one

  • death was the only way for immortality

  • Umm... Zombies and vampires aren't real. Yeah. Hello?

  • How do YOU know that? Cause if they do exist, don't you think they would try REALLY hard to keep it a secret?

  • Anything is possible, you just need to believe so for it to be so.

  • What you believe in, is your reality.

Reality, is what you believe in.

  • @DRAGONMASTER181818 To fly by straping cocks on your ancles, is it possible? I mean only cocks strapped onto your ancles not like "If you fly with a plane it's possible" everything isnt possible, Nerd name btw

  • @DRAGONMASTER181818 Cool, id like to be Sauron. KK thnx

  • Anyone ever seen The Incredible Shrinking Man? In not, check out the ending of it at Guba, or on YouTube.

Anyone who has seen it, doesn't the end of The Fountain remind you of the end of The Incredible Shrinking Man?

Obviously, The Fountain is a much more serious and sound film. But still, the endings are oddly similar, both in overall meaning and in some of their imagery. I wonder if Aronofsky was inspired by this old sci-fi movie.

Check it out and see if you agree.

  • one of the most beautiful movies ever created. the ending is absolutely phenomenal. breath taking.

  • *chuckles*. All hail trolldin!

  • No they do not worship Satan. Jezus mate.

  • Jesus was a zombie.

    :D

  • Dude, Jesus was a vampire. Drinking blood ring a bell?

  • No dude, Jesus was a zombie, Jesus didn't drink blood.

    So...

Christians are all vampires because they drink jesus's blood.

    Um... did that make sense?

  • He died and *didn't* come back moaning "brainsss". Not a zombie. ^^

  • The Definition of zombie was.... The dead coming back to the living. Or a person who has died but risen again.

    OXFORD DICTIONARY.

    It knows all.

    So.... Jesus IS a Zombie.

    (HAHAHA!)

  • Dude, that's such a weak defence, everyone knows vampires are equally dead, or undead as the case may be. Jesus goes on telling people that if they drink his blood they'll die but still live forever. Can we say: obvious. Yes we can.

  • @MBOfilms wait what about the comic book called "Jesus hates zombies"??? Does this mean Jesus hates himself? Is he EMO? fuck we are screwed!!!

  • Wait... I can walk on ice... Ice is water...., Jesus walks on water...OMG Eveyone is Jesus!!! My dog is fricken JESUS. So... are we all zombies?!?!?!

  • That's more cannibal like than vampire like.

  • Are you retarted?

  • paranoid much? i bet you think the Jews are responsible for the GFC too

  • Chilling.

  • one thing i notice about this movieis that people who really understand it, notice that this is one of the best storys ever made.... in the other hand there is those people who didn't understand a thing about it and end up saying stupid things like... "this is a msonic movie becouse the ring represents saturn and satur represents satan......"....... ...????????????????????.....

  • this scene gives me chills every time.

  • Re-incarnation..the movie

  • One if favorites... Brilliant! Does anyone know the name of the tree that was used in the movie

  • I believe the seed that izzy gives tommy is a chestnut seed. I do not believe that it is any particular tree they are concerned with. It is life....

  • No i know the tree type or name is not the point of the movie, i liked that tree and i want to find it because i want to get one myself. I understand the point... thank you aynway

  • @betablokka i think the tree does not exists, what does exists is the seed, i have plenty of those in my house, but the tree i think was made for the movie, it wasn't real. not sure, but it's possible.

  • All right, i knew the tree was all made, i mean, it has some sort of skin with hair that chills the way we do, not possible in real life... my mistake, i shouldn't have asked about the tree... now that you have many seeds, what's the name of the seed and the tree of THAT seed?

  • @betablokka i don't know, i'ma ask my dad when he comes home and then i'll tell you.

  • A Guatemalan tree

  • thanks, but there are a lots of guatemalan trees, isn't it? i'm looking for this type in specific

  • John

  • ¿John?

  • "Does anyone know the name of the tree that was used in the movie "

  • oh, well i get it, that's helpful... you know what i mean, but nevermind

  • @betablokka yep, sorry to tell you this man, but the tree doesn't exists. search the fountain on wikipedia, and read the part of Production, there it says how the tree was done.

  • Absolutely epic!

  • The definition of a love it or hate it movie. I loved it.

  • I'd say: love it or can't understand it movie.

  • Comment removed

  • do you have any idea what you're saying? The movie wasn't particularly expensive. What is this propaganda you speak of? You don't escape into Hollywood, you escape from it.

  • yea your right, a mans journey to save the one he loves and then to finally find peace through absoute surrender is wrought with 'distraction' and 'propaganda'.............

  • This is what we all will see. When we become one, at the end of time.

I'll see you there shipmates ;)

  • i saw the movie!! amazing!!

    vi la pelicula està espectacular!!

  • is the music here called, "Death is the Road to Awe" ?? I'm a bit confused.

thank you to anyone who replies,

  • Yes Death is the Road to Awe by Clint Mansell, I have the soundtrack to this movie.

  • oooooooonever seen this before!

  • First time I saw this.......

Can't even begin to describe it.

  • I remember physically recoiling from the awesomeness of this scene

    <
