I thought the few country Tv media who claimed Carrie underwood and Vince's version was as good as Elvis was absured. That being said Carrie and Vince did a great job!!!! Elvis version was How great Elvis Art in praise of our lord.
This song is so special to me as the choir was singing this when I was first touched by the Power of the Holy Spirit in Pittsburgh back in 1974......still makes me cry!
yeh it does. anyone even you can sing better than elvis. and who can respect a rapist? i guess some of yall dont care, but i bet Priscilla didnt want him to rape her. yeh he better fuckin pray to Jesus, the rest of us can go and listen to real music Rush!
this song is dedicated to my father, Bob L Phillips who was born on Nov 14 1955 and passed January 14 2010... it's been over one year going on two.... i miss you dad...... i remember this song playing at his funeral.... and it will always play in my heart...
@icecold960 That is awful young to pass on. Very sorry for your loss. The pain never goes away but it does get easier to bear. If you can, concentrate on how lucky you were to know him at all. There have been a lot of little babies born over the last 20 years without knowing their fathers. Lost to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are sitting together with your father at the foot of the throne. Hang in there. We are all in this together.
This song is dedicated to my grandfather Charles Rodger Siler who was born nov 8 1939 to june 26 1996. this song was played at his memorial on witch my grandmother chose for it being there high school dance that brought them to gather... We miss you and love you gramps all ways and for ever...
. - Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. .in Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
Elvis only won 3 grammys in his lifetime and 2 after his death. The 3 while he was alive were for Gospel music including the album entitled "How Great Thou Art".
From what I understand, Elvis wanted to record a gospel song and when one of the members of his band suggested "How Great Thou Art" Elvis replied that he had not heard it before. The band rehearsed it with him and he absolutely nailed it in about 5 minutes! I grew up with Elvis' music in the late '50s but never really appreciated him then as much as I do now. What a genius.
When Elvis recorded this song, it brought tears to the recording engineers eyes. He used this song in lots of his live shows in the 70s, and it was a showstopper.
The South shall Rise again! God Bless you Elvis! Nobody does it better than the King! Elvis know you love JESUS and your singing to the King of King right know in that great mansion in the sky. Thank you JESUS for giving us ELVIS for as long as you did. Elvis we love you and miss you very much. God gave the King that great angelic voice, natural good looks and a heart of gold! MikeUSA
This song was full of some of music's greatest performers, Elvis, Blackwood Brothers, Imperials, and Lee Liberace so many more it's hard to remember them all. The Greatest version of this song ever recorded period.
Elvis broke the house the day he was born. He really cleaned out heaven with the blessings he took with him to earth. Just look and listen to this guy. I'd hate to stand next to him. I wouldn't be half the man he was. Every fan, every backup singer, every security officer haven't got a pair of deuces next to his Royal flush, really.
I quite like this Hymn. We sang it at my Papa's Funeral 6 years ago. It was my Papa's favourite Hymn. I cry everytime I hear & my Papa like me doing Elvis impressions.
he put more and everything into this song, the song could have been written for himm, the rev, carl boberg would have smiled at this wonderful singer.
@martinsemrok Hahaha! I doubt that Elvis, of all people, was the most Holy Spirit-inspiring man to ever live, even at the time. Elvis was not exactly a saint, though it was clear that God dealt with him on many occasions.
this is my absolute favourite song by the King , it was sung at my grandads funeral but i always look at it as a positive song ... such emotion behind the lyrics !! i may only be 16 but i was raised with Elvis' songs through out my childhood and this song sticks out to me greatly x
Great song, I saw Elvis in the 70's at the spectrum in Philly,PA , his performance was great,he had the whole show there, singers, quartet , a comedian which was part of the introduction , it was worth the drive to Philly !!!
This reminds me of my dad. He always sang this song. I miss you Dad. Happy Father's Day and I know your celebrating with Jesus and your soul is singing! I love you!
Elvis we still miss you so so much and miss your beautiful smile. You will 4 ever be in our hearts love you 4 ever from all your Irish fans xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The King is truely singing worship & praise to The King of King and Lord of Lords: No one sings gospel like Elvis there is a lot HOLY SPIRIT power in that great voice. To Crazylady20101. This song was played at my mom's, dad's, and mother in laws funeral. Give me chills to hear it. A beautiful beautiful song. God bless you in you loss. I miss mine more and more everyday.
This beautiful hymn will be sung at my twin brother Brian's funeral on March 15, 2010 at All Saints' Church in Shillington, Bedfordshire in England. Elvis, thank you for introducing it to me. Susan Boyle, thank you for making a wonderful new version of this wonderful hymn. May God bless you all in Brian's memory.
I have this on LP from when I eas a kid and it was my grandmothers. I used to listen to it all the time on her old console stereo, and it holds a very big place in my heart.

@BarryH1701 Im an Elvis fan, but I wouldn't say he had the absolute GREATEST voice on this song, but would say His rendition like others before and after him is precious personal and power. Every artist brings to this song their own particular color and flavor and Elvis did it beautifully.
Oh my God! That was beautiful. There is something that is still inspriring about singers like Sam Cooke and Elvis Presley, they really believed in their own words and sang from their very soul.
I've been listening to Elvis all my life. And I have all of his 700 plus songs he did. Out of all of them, this or the live performances from '74 & '77 of this song gives me more of a chill. Also makes me wish even more that I wish I got to see him live and I'm only 24

Written by Rev. Carl Boberg, a Swedish minister, in 1886. Elvis recorded it on May 25, 1966 at RCAs Nashville studios. The single was released three years later and did not chart. However, a live version from the 1974 album Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis won Elvis his third and final Grammy for Best Inspirational Performance. This studio version is available on Amazing Grace: His Greatest Sacred Songs.
@Jackiej61too I grew up listening to this song by Elvis. doesn't seem like this was the same version but I do recall how powerful an impact it had on me even though I was a small child.
@Jackiej61too WOW I was not aware of that I thought the recorded versiion back in 66 was the Grammy award song.. I have both versions..They both have their own awesome qualities.. Personally I prefer the 74 live version
This was Elvis' most favorite gospel song and he easily has the very best renditions of this very beautiful and powerful masterpiece. I'm still waiting for the FTD label to issue a two disc deluxe edition of Elvis' "How Great Thou Art" album. I believe that FTD will issue a deluxe edition of this classic gospel album in 2009 or 2010. The best gospel music will always be Elvis' gospel music. Elvis had a voice like no other and Elvis loved God and Jesus will all of his heart. 10 Stars
From TN....so u knew him? good song...great singer...but dad's friend told him about it...he had never heard it before he rehearsed it for recording. Amazing Grace was his favorite.....
I thought the few country Tv media who claimed Carrie underwood and Vince's version was as good as Elvis was absured. That being said Carrie and Vince did a great job!!!! Elvis version was How great Elvis Art in praise of our lord.

10 Stars
