  • It was almost an year ago when i watched this video starting to learn Poi and...well, just thank you for your lessons, advices and for my improvement! ;)

  • Can all this be used for glowstringing?

  • You're videos are really helpful - but have you got any tips on how to ensure that my planes are straight, they always end up slightly in front of me. Thanks :)

  • i just started poi and was wondering if you had any techniques for helping to keep the planes from slanting when i make an x motion across my body

  • @VincentsGirl5 Yup, just try to keep your hand movement as vertical as possible. Obviously it can't be fully vertical, but the more vertical the better, if you swing your hands too horizontally or across your body, it'll warp the planes.

  • I really am a novice, I only just started proper today. I have a pair of light pois with long orange tails, and I know that I'm having trouble with planes, because the poi tails seem to lean into each other and start touching. I did manage to keep them parallel a couple of times. My main problem is I can't practice in front of my windows because there's not enough room - and a tree in the way - and because its winter its not sunny enough for shadows. Any suggestions on how to improve my planes?

  • my planes are so wobbly.. especially when i start to do flowers in reverse.. any suggestions?

  • Yeah, it helps to make sure you have a reflection, and have the planes spinning perpendicular to the reflection, so instead of seeing the flat circle, you should see just a line. It should appear that the poi are just going up and down, do you understand what I mean? This way, as soon as the poi develops into what appears in the reflection as a circle, you know that the plane is off. Also, it can help to just practice one hand at a time until you get better.

  • On top of that, using heavier poi can also help, though it makes practice a little more painful. Heavier poi are better for planes because they have more mass, meaning they require more force to move the poi heads off plane, so they're more forgiving. As you get better, make the poi lighter and lighter to make keeping plane, stalls and isolations much harder.

  • I just gotta say a few things: I've just watched a few of your videos (I've already subscribed, teehee!). You seem really nice, you have a friendly voice... and you're so GENEROUS for making all these videos and putting them up on youtube!!! THANKS!

  • Aw, thank you, you're too kind, I just have too much time on my hands compared to others, although I'm a lot busier now, hence the slower replies to comments and he larger gaps between video postings, but there's more on the way. Thanks again, and I hope my videos help you learn.

  • "not my house, but my parents, but ...technicality" lol

shadows will help me correct my planes alot. thanks

  • I just started yesterday, I think I got down the first 4 lessons, but I seem to have trouble controlling the plane of my left hand. Will that just improve with time? I have to spin the poi with it lodged between my ring and middle finger to make sure my planes are perfect for things like the wheel and the butterfly.

  • Yes, time will make it better. Plane control, especially in the weaker hand is always something that beginners find difficult, it'll improve with time. I recommend just focusing your attentions and concerntrating on your weaker hand and making sure the planes are perfect, while letting the right hand just chill, because chances are it'll be fine. The more attention you give it, the faster it'll correct. Even practice with one hand for a while. But yes, it will get better, I promise.

  • om.. also I don't understand when you speaking it.

because my english skill is not good

but I will keep watch your videos things.

I want learn it to poi

    anyway Thanks for your video

  • I've been practicing poi for a while but my left arm spinning is way slower and more shakey than my right arm planes. I've tried practing by by spinning with my left arm alone, but it's still very unparallel.

Any tips as how iI can fix this?

  • Just keep practicing, maybe use heavier or lighter poi and see if it helps. If your arm is shaking is could be that your muscles aren't quite strong enough yet, don't worry. Keep at it and I promise it'll get better quickly.

  • Thank you ! =D

  • Wow, you win a prize for the fastest comment response ever!

  • I just have no life :P

  • Well, you're watching my videos, so you must be pretty cool.

  • I have to I want to learn and your awesome !! So your the cool person :P I still hit myself in the head sometimes with those poi's xD

  • It's good that you want to learn, that's the first step, lol. And thanks for the compliment. I hit myself in the head all the time, so many childhood memories sacrificed... oh well, it was worth it. Anyways, I should get some sleep, so I won't really be able to continue this youtube comment conversation, but if you'd like to chat sometime, pm me for sure. All the best.

  • sleep well :D

  • What are those Poi's called you use ? I have an other kind with ribbons at the end there way longer :P I'm thinking of buying those you have...

    Hugs Angel

  • Those poi I use are just sock poi, basically, just balls in socks, so you don't need to dish out that much cash for poi. All the best.
