i still remember watching this that night with my Dad...he turned to me as he was laughing and said "Amatuer Night in Canada, Hodge is probably gonna get fired"
so sad what Dave Hodge left CBC and open his place for Cherry. Respect to Dave Hodge from old hockey fan from Russia! I have many HNIC and other games in my dvd collection from 50's - 80's and see now games wich never can see in USSR but all time wanted it since 1976. I'm an old habs fan since 31.12.1975
@werqa123 Cheers to you from a Canadian living in Prague for 20 years....I too have a large collection of DVDs from the 60's thru the 70's and early 80's...rather watch these games any day over the current NHL circus.
You speak the truth you get canned. To bad for Dave at the time. At least hes remained true to himself and continues to speak his mind. Fuck all the puppets who are afraid to speak their minds in fear of losing their jobs in the media.
@IntheOT The same bullshit is still going today on radio at the notorious Clear Channel, as well as on all of its stations it owns throughout America. If you don't believe me, just ask Rick Dees how both they and their KISS-FM network of Top-40 hit stations screwed him over because he wouldn't kiss their ass. For those of you in Canada or who may not know, Clear Channel is a poor excuse of a media outlet that won't allow anyone to speak their minds unless it agrees with their right-wing agenda.
When you are working as a broadcaster for a network, you are part of a "team". His comments clearly sold out his team and his network. It was unprofessional. ...Still historic though ...
Glad somebody called the CBC out on some of the stupid things they do. Too bad nobody flipped a pen on a live broadcast about the dismantling of their orchestra. :/
If no one tells CBC they won't find out. They have an aversion to making money so they order stuff taken down when it's ovious that people would buy historical material if they released it. American networks learned long ago that classic television released is classic television sold!
To whoever put this here, thank you. I vaguely remember this as a kid but always wanted to see it again. I've been searching for a long time for this but i'm sure once CBC finds out they will have this removed. I'm sure Dave Hodge isn't proud of it let alone everyone seeing it again. Dave Hodge was HNIC!
Hockey Night in Canada made the biggest mistake ever when they fired Dave Hodge! Ron Maclean isnt bad but he will never even come close to Dave Hodge. He knew how to handle Don Cherry. But I guess thats the stupid CBC for you!!
Unbelievable. He got fired for doing something like that? It seemed to be like he just did it out of frustration. I heard that play-by-play announcer Chris Cuthbert got fired from HNIC for speaking his mind on how they do things there. Now he's with TSN as well. I wonder who's next.

@AK47Music That's only one aspect of the media I guess. If you don't like it, listen to a different station. I'm just glad I don't put up with that kind of crap. End of discussion.
@bluebear1985 As a matter of fact, Clear Channel and the other major national media outlets like it are a main reason why my arsenal of Walkmen and iPods get more use and not AM or FM radio, because I can't trust a DJ to be sincere to his listeners or whether or not he is being told what to say for fear of being fired because he wants to be himself. That is why Howard Stern left commercial radio for Sirius-XM, where he has total absolute freedom to say whatever the fuck he wants, no matter what.
@UncleLarrysVault That's a good point. I wonder if it still exists anywhere. Maybe he took it with him and has it? Or maybe it just got lost on a desk somewhere. Ask somebody from TSN on twitter maybe?
Always Like Dave Hodge.....

Fuck yes! I remember this like it was yesterday! The only person who might be able to say such things and get away with it is Don Cherry.

I doubt that Dave Hodge took the pen. If he did, the CBC would have railroaded him in court for stealing office supplies.
Seriously though, I doubt the pen was on anyone's mind at all.

@Rick951 On a broadcast of Classic Leafs TV, a game from Dec 11, 1971, Hodge is the special guest and talks about his first night.
