He is probably capable of words now but needs to hear some repetition. There is a dog toy called a "babble ball.". It makes all sorts of sounds when you move it. He is absolutely fanatical about his babble balls, and can make almost every word or sound they make. We have to replace the batteries pretty often. They also tend to like all sorts of bird toys and stuff like baby toys, and small stuffed animals.
They are not cuddly type birds, but would rather sit and be around their "flock"--you and your family. Females are usually more aggressive and are known to be a fairly difficult parrot to keep. I personally would want a female, but many owners of females love them. I would suggest researching a little more. Go to "Land of Vos" website... lots of great information about eclectus keeping on that site.
Eclectus parrots have a long digestive tract which can cause some issues with feeding. They are also prone to allergies. They need to be fed a specialized diet of organic and NO preservative pellets and fresh fruit and veggies. Even so, they can and often do, pluck. They need lots of foraging to help keep them from plucking.
i am looking to purchase an ecliptus but the bird shop staff told me that the eclictus are verry fragil parrots. he spoke alot about pluking feathers. i want the female. he also said they are verry hit and miss as far as being verry good or verry bad in pluking. can you give me some insight please. also i have 2 paraquees, 2 dogs cocker & german shepard mix. which are house dogs, am always on the road and teh girlfriend works from home but shes kinda anti social but loves animals ?????
