The hitbox is really small. Still, it takes a LOT of skill to play Danmaku(bullet hell, tons of bullets) well.

Ikaruga is different though. You switch color affiliation depending on what color bullets the enemy shoots at you. Still takes a masochist with godlike reflexes though.

You hold down the shoot button and it never stops, unless you let go of the shoot button. So no, you never stop shooting.
