Thats pretty awesome. It's like you have so many servers you have to stick them wherever theres space, like under your dresser and in spaces between the desk and table. Also GNU+LINUX IS THE KING OF OPERATING SYSTEMS
mymothersmeatloaf, yes several years ago some romanian script kiddie tried to break into my server, it disconnected itself from the internet when he tried to change one of the startup scripts, leaving all his command history and urls to his rootkits etc on my system :) I reinstalled it anyway, can never be to safe...
Brings back memories. A very long time a go was on a private upper secondary high school where they let you borrow a laptop for 3 years. There i sat and programmed until one day i shaw my firewall log filled with IP that had tried to do a SSH bruteforce.
pwnalmighty1231, both my servers and the NAS unit are second hand. The main server cost me 70 quid on ebay, and the other two cost me nothing but my effort to lug them home from work (the NAS unit weighs a good 70lbs *empty*).
In short i spend most of my money on my desktop, i dont have a high paying job, i just save up and dont really spend it on much else (like all good geeks!). Keep an eye out for stuff going cheap or for nothing at all that youre willing to spend lots of time refurbishing.
Even though this isn't the main point but...I like your mouse with that red light in it. =3 And nice Server Room...definately has a lot of things in it.
pcxfer: i use freebsd for webserver, svn server, mailserver (imap-ssl) and some other bits and bobs. It also acts as a perimiter firewall and gateway for my network.
jonnytcarryduff: I call this room my bedroom :) To me a server room has proper air conditioning and technicians :) Theres nothing wrong with taking pride in your kit, but it makes me laugh when people call it a server room :) You have some very nice kit there by the way. any videos of it?
FreeBSD 5.4 HOLY COW! Your server room is archaic lol. J/K, it's nice to see an old OS still running smooth. For curiosity, what are your uses for FreeBSD?
OK, you do have a very nice server room. However I don't think it's fair to criticise people with only one server and calling it a "Server Room". By defination, it is a server room even if you only have one server in it. Also, people take pride in their servers (As do you and I!).
FYI, my setup: 2 HP Proliants (Non-Rackmount), 1 Dell PowerEdge(1U), pfSense Firewall(Thin, but non-rackmount), 24 Port ProCurve Gigabit Switch, 3COM Wireless Gateway, 2X APC UPS Both Rackmount. All in a Rittal Rack
out of all linux i prefer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (rhel)
thats what i have on all my servers
