Thank you SikismekAtaturk. There is a thruth in your words. Though Kurds using religion have oppressed Armenians in history, but they did not have a plan to wipe out Armenians. This was young turks idea and planning. After Armenians, all the panturkic oppression fell on the Kurds and continues to this day. Now Turkish nationalists would probably wipe out Kurds too if it was possible.
Does anyone have a video of the sabre dance actually danced, not just th music performed at a concert? Please post it if you can. Thank you in advance.
Do someone have clips of Arshak II, Tavit peg, Almasd, The Birth of Sasuntsi Tavit or another operas or simphonic poems or ballets for upload?. The world don´t knows about armenian richness in academic music,( and perhaps armenians too).
Me too, I LOVE this ballet, the music, the dance, the whole thing!! Can I see it one day, in my own Canada country?! Or I must to purshase an airplane ticket for Armenia?! lol Can you showing more, please? In that version, what is the story plot?
The plot is that Gayaneh's drunken husband goes to war and she is left to marry a kurd man she loves, whose sister loves Gayaneh's brother... something like that
get your facts straight, there is no kurd in gayanes ballet please. Gayane, daughter of kolkhoz chairman Avanes, helps capture a stranger who penetrated the Soviet Army's territory intending to discover geological secrets. In doing this, the loving Gayane is aiding her friend, the youth Armen.
Its not the dance of the young kurds its based on Armenian folkclore music and its called Sabre Dance is partly orginally from the area in which was western armenia inhabited by armenians...that is fabricized afterwards to match political needs. Today that area is mostly inhabited by kurds, they forgotten the history. after the genocide most armenians were forced to become either kurds or turks if they weren't killed maybe thats why the are confused.
There is both a Sabre Dance and a dance of the young kurds, believe me, on my CD with bits from the ballet there is both the Sabre Dance and the Dance of the young kurds and they're both in this ballet!
"Kurd's settlement in a mountainous area near the kolkhoz. Many people are there, including Gayane's brother Armen, a Kurdish girl Aishe, and a Kurdish young man Izmail who loves her. Then appear Giko and the three smugglers, who ask Armen their way. Wondering what they are after, he sends to Kurdish youths for Kazhakov.(...)"
it's just a small detail. Gayane is pure folklore Armenian story:)
@karineh1 My dear Armenian brother the story is not the way you have told it. The piece is called the dance of the Kurds. It was when Aram Khachaturyan went around Armenia and saw in a Kurdish village Kurds riding their horses hence the name and the rhythm of the opening. I fully sympathize with Armenians and support the return of most Armenian lands lost to the Mongolian tribes who later became known as Turks.
@SikismekAtaturk Man calm down. The kurdish music is mostly armenian. The kurds in Iraq or have different music from Western Armenian kurds and ask "why?".
@BayQar Why don't you try this with the Turks who stole virtually everything you had in Anatolia, why you
turn against Kurds who support you like brother. It is very demeaning and belittling to say Kurdish music is mostly Armenian and it sounds like it's coming from an ultra-nationalistic Mongolian Turkic - who we both suffered from. Please don't PLAGIARIZE musical culture of others. It would be better said that we share same cultural traits and perhaps some folk tunes might sound similar.
@SikismekAtaturk Listen man if I speak the truth I don't turn against anybody. The Western Armenian kurds (not Anatolian, Anatolia is wester) have different music from Iraqi or Iranian kurds because it is mostly Armenian music and dances they use. And for me there is no difference between turks and kurds. Turks were organizers of Armenian genocide and mostly kurds were who killed, raped and destroyed. Maybe you will write some shit after this words but it is the truth I see it.
@SikismekAtaturk And kurds need to confess for their sins against armenians, assyrians and greeks as much as turks need. Don't be two faced please. When you didn't need us you were hand to hand with turks. now they do the same shit what they together with you did to us in 19th century. Now armenians are becoming your friends or even brothers. What a miracle.
@SikismekAtaturk You say I am plagiarizing right? Man look above. It is you not me writing comment under Aram khachatryan's music saying it is kurdish. It is Azergayjanis and sometimes kurds are writing under our videos saying it is their music:) and you tell me I am plagiarizing? I could also go and write under your music and the music of Azergayjan that it is ours and I would definitely be right , but I don't do, so if I don't do it have a little humility and shut the fuck up.
My friend I did not mean Aram Khachatryan, the great Armenian composer. And I think if Kurds were Christians like you we would have conquered these Mongolian herdsmen. I stand before you and condemn any atrocity perpetrated by Kurds against Armenians and Assyrians. However, Hamidiya Cavalry was conceived by Ottomans to massacre the Armenains and to drive them out of their land. Although they were mostly Kurds BUT they were not representing Kurdish nation and not representative of all Kurds. .
And Nahabed says they were not heavy. Look at the leading dancer in this video. She isnt heavy? I do not blame your camera. For Gayane she is too fat.
I LOVE THIS Ballet! THANK YOU for showing clips. Please show more. Is it available on VHS or DVD? Gorgeous music, dancing, costumes, everything. I LOVE IT!
Hey, proud Armenian boys, Khachaturyan is splendid, Gayane is wonderful, but from this video it seems that the best Armenian artists are out as the dancing is really on mediocre level, unfortunately. Anyway, enjoy, it's stil worth it
Wow - what are the odds! Being there on the same show! :) glad you enjoyed it. There are 3 other clips from Gayane here anda couple from Rouben Hakhverdyan's concert on the 29th...
I put some up from Armenia as well...a few of performers in Karabakh, some duduk players at Garni and a Yerevan music school, and the Armenian Navy Band concert (still trying to find my cd with other clips of their concert, though). Hope you enjoy.
Just published a Gayane Ballet performance in Live HD from Dec 08, 2011 at Opera House Armenian under my videos!

Then what has the "Dance of the young kurds" have to do with the whole ballet?
The person who told me is a musicologist and an expert on Armenian music. Tell me she's wrong...
