This is a complete revelation to me because; I was always told one had to be born Jewish to be Jewish. I never heard that you could become Jewish if you desired to do so. Other than that, the community has been very supportive. The bible itself tells of converts (Abraham and Sarah, and Ruth for example.) The Tanakh speaks of how converts are supposed to be treated.

If you are a woman and you want to convert to Judaism you have to strip off naked and sit in a bath (mikvah) while a group of old Rabbis perv on you to make sure you're OK to join.
Just thought I would share this little fact.

No offence, man, but I thought the whole thing about Judaism is that they don't pressure people into converting; in fact those who want to convert are often discouraged at first (something I personally admire, as too many people rush into a religion without being willing to commit). To hear someone say, "Hey! Become Jewish!" seems a little weird to me.

This is a complete revelation to me because; I was always told one had to be born Jewish to be Jewish. I never heard that you could become Jewish if you desired to do so. I was told that converts are never accepted by people who are born Jewish. I have always admired the way the Jewish people act as a team as opposed to an atomized group.

I'm not Jewish yet, but am hoping to convert. Noone has ever been unaccepting of me, although I have had people try to get me not to convert for the simple fact that anti-semitism is so rampant, and that I would get hundreds more mitvos than I am currently required to follow. Other than that, the community has been very supportive. The bible itself tells of converts (Abraham and Sarah, and Ruth for example.) The Tanakh speaks of how converts are supposed to be treated.

All Jews are descended--born Jews, physically; converts, spiritually-- from the first two converts (Abraham and Sarah.) The Messiah himself, will be Jewish, a descendant of one of the most famous converts in history (Ruth).

Abraham was an Israelite. Jew came from the term "Kingdom of Judah", and is now most often used to refer to any Israelite. The term anti-semitic is used worldwide to mean anti-Jewish, and no, Jews are not anti-semitic. The Torah was written in Hebrew. Get your facts straight! Aramaic, which is related to Hebrew as well as Arabic, was used mostly for the Talmud and the books of Daniel and Ezra (which are Tanakh not Torah), and the aramaic version used was more closely linked to Hebrew than Arabic

Orthodox Jews existed since biblical times. There were no "progressive" jews until the 19th century. Orthodoxy was the only option until they made the new movement. Orthodoxy goes by what is in the Torah in its fullest. Don't try to pretend you know what you're talking about when you clearly do not. Oh, and converts are not second class. They are considered fully Jewish, and it is a sin to remind a convert of their conversion after it is complete. Stop spreading your anti-jewish propaganda

well it says that the mother because moms typically teach children their morals needs to be a jew in order for the person to be spiritually jewish [contain a jewish soul] and it says that the dad determines the tribe the person belongs to. BUT if a person is ready to sacrifice everything to be a jew, change their ENTIRE life around, learn, and have full intentions of fufilling and carrying out the entirety of the Torah then they are able to "accept the yoke of heaven" and become a jew.

I won't lie to you. Converting to Judaism is not going to be easy. Even Reform Judaism will take some to to adjust and learn. Orthodox and Conservative Judaism is even harder still, with its literal interpretations of the commandments. But the good news is that with hard work and sacrafice, comes redemtion.

The problem with the Bible, is that the God character portrayed therein frequently commits, commands, condones, and otherwise colludes with the most atrocious violence.
This is not a mirage caused by poor exegesis, slipshod hermeneutics, or a faulty air-conditioning system.

thats not 100% correct. yes there were strict laws that during that time prevented anyone from converting to judaism-thus it did become internalized but judaism never tried to take over countries "by the sword" so to speak and say that it was the only way to salvation which are the beliefs of both christianity and islam who both invaded by the sword and forced ppl to convert judaism has always accepted converts[except for a brief pd of time as you said]but has let the converts come to them first

All of these issues have been extensively discussed on various Noachide websites. There are wonderful Noachide communities in Tennessee and Texas among other places. To live in Eretz Yisroel, and be a Ger-Toshav (a recognized and honored status in the Torah) a Gentile must become a Noachide.

Hi, You said Jewdaism gave birth to All "Monotheist" Religions, I'm a Muslim and we Muslims do not believe Jewdaism to be a Monotheistic or beleivers in "Tawheed" as we Muslims call it. So how can you say such a thing? According to Islam there is very Little difference between Jewdaism and Hinduism, becsause both religions believe in the Omni-Present nature of God, the Only thing different from both is that Hindus believe everything = 1, and jews believe in a 1 Essential Being, little difference

Noachide was never meant to be permanent status for Non Jews, One embraced the Sheva Mitzvos B'nei Noach only as a transitionary measure while he/she was in the process of conversion.
Why would any Non Jew embrace the Status of a 2nd class citizen which is basically what a Noachide is when he could become a full fledged Jew.

What is your Torah source for the statement about Noachide being a non-permanent status? I believe that is incorrect. Noachide status is by no means "2nd class" but rather the fulfillment of the ultimate preferred status for all Gentiles. Would you call Levites "2nd class" to Kohanim? Of course not. We all have our appropriate duties to Hashem. The essence of Creation is Service to Hashem as He wishes. Heaven is a Kingdom, not a Democracy.

For the sake of heaven. They should FEEL a strong need to BE JEWISH. They don't necessarily need to know WHY they feel this need in the beginning. They study the religion, laws, culture, ways of life, and decide if they still feel the same. They have AMPLE chances to change their minds. If they go through with it, it is obviously because they truly desire to be Jewish in their hearts, KNOWING that they need not.
