I need help. I installed VMWare Server, but it will only allow me to configure a remote host. There is no option between configuring a remote or local host, and I am running Windows Vista. Please help ASAP!
At 3:02, just click cancel. I haven't reviewed server 2.0 for differences, but you shouldn't need to connect to a remote host. If you have further issues, post into the vmware community forums. I'm currently running virtualbox and vmware workstation, and I can't load server 2.x for troubleshooting. Once you get to the point where you can do a new virtual machine, the rest of the video should work for you.
I did click cancel, but it only enables me to access help options and connecting to a host. Everything regarding a virtual machine is grayed out. I am using the latest version in the 1.x series and not the 2.x series. Someone else on the forums had a similar issue, and they said to type a command in a command prompt, and press F8. I did type the command, but I still have issues. Did they mean press F8 to go into safe mode and install it? What do you think? (I'm thinking about the forums.)
I'm not sure; I would follow up in the VMWare community forums. There isn't anything I can troubleshoot at this point. I tried several installs of vmware server when I produced this and didn't experience anything like you describe.
I think they may have recently removed the older server versions for VMWare... I downloaded ver 2, but I'm using mvpc 2007 so it's no biggie. I would like to dabble with VMWare though as long as it's free.
When I browse for the .iso file I go to the location it is in, but the only thing that shows up is a bunch of empty folders! Please help as soon as possible.
If it is there, and if it has the proper .iso file extension, the applicaiton will find it. Either it's not named properly, or it is not where you think it is. Move it to the desktop to make it easy to find and make sure you have the correct file.
I moved it to My documents and gave it its own folder, and when I open the folder to find the .iso file in VMware Server, the only thing that shows up is some folders called .disk, casper, dists, install, isolinux, pics, pool and pressed. Some of the folders contsins more folders, and I don't want to go through them all like a labyrinth. So do you know which of these folders I have to enter to find the .iso file?
I solved the problem. I just needed to move the unextracted .iso file to the folder, and there it is! VMware Server found it. The mistake I did was that I extracted the items to the folder, and VMware Server can't find extracted .iso files. Thanks for your help!
Yeah, ubuntu server and ubuntu desktop are two completely different items and identified as such. There is a part 1 server and a part 1 desktop. View the series that applies to the version of ubuntu you are interested in installing.
hey im using mokafive player iv downloaded ubuntu in the player and wen i run it it asked 4 user and pass i typed theese in and then it continues on but wont load up i understand i need to add some stuff that they havnt put in what is it i need to write in please help..
Not currently. You appear to be referring to an error that occurs with the new vmware server 2.x, which has been released only in the last few days as of today's date. This tutorial refers to vmware server version 1.x. You might see if you can find vmware server 1.x and try that, as demonstrated in the video. Otherwise, you may want to post a message into the vmware community forums to see if this new bug, which is currently being reported, has been resolved.
I WAS using 1.5 console but was using VMWare Server 2.0, wso that caused some kind of conflict. I re-installed both console and server to match 1.5 and now it works.
youve made a mistake you wrote "this series of TWO videos show" in the description but when you watch part 2 you see "this series of THREE videos show" Lol
No, you've made the mistake. There are two videos showing how to install desktop in vmware server, and the second of those also notes there are two videos in the series. There are three videos in the series showing how to install server in vmware server. Make sure you are reviewing the correct series.
The ubuntu web site seems to have had problems this afternoon. When I looked at it earlier today, some of the screen displays were corrupted. You can also try releasesDOTubuntDOTcomSLASHhardy if the site doesn't come back up soon.

Well, no. I can't see your computer from here and I wasn't watching when you downloaded it. It's wherever you put it.

Hi, I love your tutorials but I got a little problem here.
When I try to open VMWare Server console, and try to log in to a local host it gives me an error message saying:
"There was a problem connecting.
501 Global command GLOBAL server-vmdb to non-host targets not supported."
Any help?

VMWare 1.x is still available. See the vmware server download page and look for the 1.07 release process.

Ok, I fixed it.

On with the rest of the tutorial!
