  • I'm losing my mind trying to get cinestlye installed on my T3i. When I go to register picture style the browse icon is greyed out so I can not select the file. Anyone know what I need to do? I called Canon and they couldn't figure it out. I called Technicolor and that was a pain even getting ahold of anyone. Please, anyone have any ideas?

  • @BENKOCINSKI Any luck getting Cinestyle loaded onto your T3i?

  • @mtseilback Check your Firmware. This is the cause of the problem 99.9% of the time. I had to update from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 to allow me to load the Cinestyle file. Hope this helps.

  • @BENKOCINSKI i know this post is a few weeks old and you have probably sorted it by now but i had the same problem and all i needed to do was change from video mode to manual mode.

  • thanks for original .lut file

  • Magic bullet LUT is not an accelerated effect which means it will require rendering no matter what graphics car you have. Building your own S curve using curves in premiere will give you real time playback. This guy has made a preset that works great

  • @muppetman67 timkang.com/

  • Question about LUT buddy, do you have to apply/render the settings before doing other work, or do you just leave lut buddy on the footage the whole time as the first part in your chain?

  • @db247365 I just leave it there. No need to render unless your computer can't play back in realtime.

  • how do you get to lut buddy in premiere? how did you put in in?

  • @PhaseSkater go to 'Effect' 'Magic Bullet Colorista' and then 'LUT Buddy' :)

  • can someone help please, i installed the technicolour onto my 600d and when i go to video and picture style it doesn't appear, it says 'Auto'. The cinestyle only appears in Manual mode??

  • Why do you say to set the camera to saturation -4 contrast -2. Im a bit confused because the CineStyle already sets the saturation to -4 so why change contrast to -2. Can you please explain this?

  • WOOOOOOOOWWW!!!!

  • LUT buddy is not showing up in the list of effects, anyone having this issue? I tried restarting the machine and no luck so far, I can't wait to work with this.

  • 5. *Critical: Set your camera settings to Contrast: -4 and Saturation: -2.

you mean to change the picture style of the proper Technicolor Cinestyle? so why it comes with different settings? the only difference ive noticed was the saturation?, i really appreciate your answer!!

  • When i import the S-Curve for cinestyle it doesn't do anything to the footage! Using premiere cs4! Do you know why?

  • @andrergadotcom Did you try moving through the footage? For me it didn't change until I moved the slider. If you play the footage, does it work?

  • @mattsdni It did not work as well! Nothing...

  • @mattsdni a bro...did you ever get it to work...mine do the same thing

  • hey would you happen to know of an update that will allow EOS Utility to work on OS Lion for Mac? Every since I updated to Lion I haven't been able to use EOS. I really would like to add the cinestyle feature to my T3i. Thanks bro

  • @2004Playboy Try this update out: <you will have to put the url together since youtube doesn't allow posting links. Or google "EOS Utility 2.8.1 Updater for Mac OS X" support-th.canon-asia

  • @mattsdni would that version of EOS work with the newer Canon models like the T3i? Thanks for responding bro.

  • @2004Playboy Probably not. EOS utility was released on Feb. 26 2010 and t3i on Fe. 7 2011 so the camera didn't even exist yet.

  • thanks man for this video

  • thanks man for this video

  • I'm a little confused about Technicolor Cinestyle and Magic Bullet "effects" grading; are they two different means to the same end? My understanding is that Cinestyle is a firmware add on for Canon EOS and MB is more for post application?

I'm looking to get a T2i and installing Magic Lantern which I'm positive is a firmware update but the colour grading aspects of MB and Technicolors Cinestyle has me a little perplexed.

  • @supercooled Cinestyle has nothing to do with the camera firmware, it is more like a preset you add to the camera. It's really only a flat contrast preset. Magic bullet Looks is a post production plugin for video editing programs to simplify the color grading process. It's fun and easy to use. Magic Lantern is a firmware hack. You install additional firmware and other files to the cameras memory card and it allows for pro video functions.

  • you say do those setting while on 'manual' but then you say record footage? does that mean that i have to change to 'filming' mode? and also i cant get mine to do cinesyle? ive done everything youve said and it still looks normal? pleasee help as there is no help on the internet

  • @mattsbars Yes, after loading the profile to the camera switch to movie mode. If you press Q on the camera and scroll through the first option with the wheel near the shutter button you should be able to find cinestyle. If not, go to menu--->4th tab (red camera icon)--->Picture Style--->Scroll Down to 'User Def. 1' and push 'DISP', then push 'SET' and use the up and down arrows to scroll down to find cinestyle.

  • @mattsdni (part 2 of response) You will then need to go back out of all the menus and press Q on the camera and scroll through the first option with the wheel near the shutter button you should be able to find cinestyle. If you still cannot find it then it did not transfer to the camera. Let me know if you need any more help.

  • Can you repost the original .lut file please?

  • @RiotReleasing Indeed, could you upload the original .lut file for premiere. Mines crashes every time in premiere, but works fine in after effects.

  • @rhashad88 new link is to the LUT in the description. Let's hope it stays up longer this time!

  • @mattsdni I downloaded the file, but where does it go? It still crashes when I pull up adobe premiere and try to apply lut. Does the new downloaded file go in a certain folder somewhere?

  • @rhashad88 After you apply lut buddy to the footage, you load the lut with lut buddy. If it is crashing, you may need to convert the lut to a 3D lut. I'm not sure. There is a curves preset for premiere you can use instead. Can't post links here. Google "technicolor preset curves premiere" first link.

  • @mattsdni That's the thing, whenever I apply the installed lut buddy in premiere cs5 to my footage it automatically freezes and crashes? I don't even make it to the next step of applying the s curve lol. I thought that was where everyone else was having problems with as well. I downloaded the lut buddy from red giant for my mac, but that's what I'm dealing with right now. Any suggestions as to why it might crash at the point that I'm at?

  • Dude! PLease! I really need the original .LUT file, can you set up a new link!?

  • link doesn't work

  • Thanks a bunch, awesome tutorial. Just wondering what's the use of the LUT besides fixing the S-curve...like, why would u use technicolor, get a flat look, and then use the lut to give it a normal look? or can you not use the lut and do your own job with the s curve to get the desired result? just curious cuz the lut makes you lose the detail you got from the shadows

  • @dinkerambe The lut puts the contrast back in WITHOUT clipping shadows or highlights. The amount of contrast it adds decreases near black or white. It adds the strongest contrast in the midtones. This is why they call it logarithmic instead of linear.

  • you sound like andy dick

  • I would like to use Cinestyle, but I'm not sure how it to use it in my current workflow.

Because h.264 is not a stable editing codec it's recommended to transcode.

    Current workflow

Transcode h.264 to 422 or 444 clips then import into NLE then send to Apple Color then back to NLE

    Your workflow

    H.264 to NLE

Although this may work with the new Final Cut.

    What are your thoughts?

    @waltervmarshall

  • @CTABCHURCH I'm very familiar with final cut. I know the .mga file is compatible with apple color. You could try applying the lut to the transcoded clips.

  • @mattsdni ^not familiar with final cut.
