They sing in Norwegian and they play a kind traditional-folk music with some spice up undercurrent style that I can't describe. And it is not a violin as such, is a Norwegian violin with a few extra cords I think.

They're playing a Hardanger Fiddle, or Hardingfele in Norwegian. It has got eight or nine strings, four of them underneath the top ones to resonate, and it's made out of lighter wood than a violin. Also, they're a ... well... to tune.

The "violins" are actually a traditional Norwegian instrument, called Hardanger fiddles, or Hardingfeles, in Norwegian (that's the language they're singing). These guys are really popular among the youth here in Norway, but the traditional fiddlers very often loathe them above all else.
