Sultry song from an incredibly beautiful woman with an amazing voice. One of my all time favourite tracks. Thanks for posting this up. Artists like this are just not around anymore. Wish we could have the old days back again....
@011219551 Crystal Gayle and her sister Peggy Sue are still "on the road" touring and entertaining their fans at concerts. Crystal sings most of her #1 hits and Peggy Sue joins in with "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "Don't Come Home A'drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)". Great stuff for those that still enjoy hearing "voice" rather than "noise".
My dad's favorite song. What a wonderful father, indeed; lost him to cancer at 61 years of age, in 1981. Still, I was one lucky son to have such a man for a hero. Love you pop...............
@kagomespug Haha! Can't believe the coincidence! Me too! Haha!!! Just finished watching that episode where the guy / fugitive stole her tour bus! :D And I was curious who Crystal Gayle is and here I am.... :)
First song I ever learnt on the piano. Found the sheetmusic again this past week to it, and now I'm relearning it. Beautiful song, and it also has a nice swing to it. I love the song when it first came out, and everytime I listen to it now, I still love it. It has a certain charm that not many songs have.
@sweetbrowneyedlady I think you are wrong, there is diferent preferences, pexample Me, I like girls with meat, more in the 70s or 60s fashion. I do not like the skinny long legs artificial, superficial girls from this era.
@sweetbrowneyedlady Don't buy into that myth about men and blondes. All women are beautiful to me, and brunettes with curves are just as sexy. Take it from me because I am man that believes women are such a gift to all men on this earth. Muah !
my eyes used to be brown, but, in the 90's they turned light green and then brownish green. now they just change from green to whatever they wish...even orange.....strangely enough....never blue.
I love this song! I'm the only girl in my 9th grade class that listens to this kind of music! They're all too busy listenin' to tht Justin Beiber crap to listen to good, quality music!!! Classic country is the best!!!
@MrsHikaruHitachiin I heard my grandma singing this. I'm so happy my eyes are brown. Haha....yeah Justin Beiber shouldn't be famous. I can't stand today's music. It gets sickening. You hear it over , and over again. Trust me, I'm in 7th grade , and I sort of feel like I'm trapped in a 7th grade body , or just stuck in the wrong time.
Her voice is sooo beautiful! I heard the "When I Dream" album when I was about 5 and I have loved it ever since! Her voice is like satin. She and Karen Carpenter are 2 of my all-time favorite voices. :) It's a shame there's not more of her songs on YouTube.
...because of how often the chorus is misinterpreted ("Gonna make my brown eyes blue..."), it was difficult finding this song! Now that I can hear it clearly, I understand the lyrics... and it's sad!
such a classic! I know that Crystal made this a hit and did well taking it to the pop charts...but Just once I want to hear Faith Hill do this song....the vocal styles are so similar and Faith would not harm hit by any means :-)
This is on my 1977 playlist, one of 111 waiting to take you back in time to the great music of any past year, it's time travel with the click of your mouse!
This song used to make a specific model of AM transmitter (Rockwell collins power-rock) go off the air when the station would play it! (True story, they used to call it the "Crystal Gayle Syndrome" )
El Cid. I ran out of space, so I didn't write that I heard later on that she hadn't got married in the end! Of course, I am sure she married some time later- so perhaps she had another last fling- or two! She was a bit of a ball of fire that's for sure.

Just keep the love of great country music alive in the hearts of the young people.
What I really meant to write was I bought the album- "We must believe in Magic" back in 1977 when this was a hit from that album. Indeed, we should believe in magic. I think Crystal got tired of having to do this song for a while but I love it."Green Door" was on the album- it was a monster hit a few years later for Shakin' Stevens in the UK. Crystal could have had a hit with it..
I went out with a Welsh girl for a single date 30 years ago- she had brown eyes but as the evening went on her eyes went green. Anyway, it's a night I still remember. Before people say "That can't happen", I have greeny-brown eyes and they do get a bit greener if I visit somewhere really sunny- Greek islands etc. Of course, I may have imagined it happened with this woman but I am convinced the memory is correct. I never saw her again- she was going to get married and I was her "Last fling"-!!
Just saw her Christmas show live yesterday in Sellersville PA. Besides singing Christmas songs she also performed some of her classic hits. Let me tell you, she still sounds great!!! She looked beautiful as well. I never realized she is so small in stature. Guess it's true...good things come in small packages.
Wow, I'm sure I was the only black girl in school singing this song and the Southern nights song. Glad my family introduced me to diversity. Great memories from spending summer vacation in Lexington, where the radio station played C&W no R&B.
Don't forget this song went to #1 on the Country charts AND Pop(Casey Kasem's top 40), won Her a Grammy too. "We Must Believe in Magic" was the first album by a Female Country Artist to attain Platinum status...Crystal and this song's Writer also won an award for it being the top ten "Most Played or Performed" Songs of the entire 20th century...

What a great 1977 tune. Beautiful, sad, and haunting. This is the first most of us heard of this striking lady. Her voice was deep, and soulful for a country singer. She could not have sounded more different from her sister Loretta if she tried. And I remember her hair was so long, it came close to touching the back of her knees. I miss times like this, when you could hear so many different types of music on the same radio channel. Now, everything sounds the same.
