the only bad thing about this match was the fact that i watched it now and that i knew owen couldn't win (bc i knew he never he never won the title). what a great match tho, those two really played great off each other and its a shame we never saw owen's full potential. Bret was always my favorite, and RIP Owen
Just imagine if Brett had still been with WWE in the attitude era (1998 -2002) The matches he could have had against HHH, The Rock and the feud with Austin could have gone so much further, maybe to the point of a career match around the time of Wrestlemania 18/19. Also he could have worked with Angle, Benoit, Jericho! There would have been so many more guys he could have great matches with!
@gamelvr1 Yeah ive seen those matches and they were classics you are absolutley right. I just meant that under the promotional skills of the wwe during its most popular period rather than being so poorly used in wcw and having his career ended by Bill Goldberg, Brett Hart could have had some truly great matches in that time with the best workers :)
@GayisMusofShea No problem. The others are Shawn Michaels vs. Razor ladder match at WM 10, and Michaels vs. Undertaker hell in a cell at Bad Blood IYH '97.
I hate the comments that say best cage match ever. It is a slight to this match's good name to make a comparison with another cage match. This match was/is the quintessential cage match to which all other's should be judged.
@burnhard88 - Undertaker vs. Undertaker followed this. When Bret and Owen went back stage, 'Taker must've glared at those two and sarcastically said, "I hate you".
@Kannebas I never understood why they would put that match on last after this. The title match should ALWAYS be the main event, especially a match of this caliber.
@Antrizzle2009 - The Undertaker hadn't been on WWF/E TV since the Royal Rumble when Yokozuna and pretty much all the heels "killed" him. The whole PPV had been built around his return. That's the best explanation I can give you for why Undertaker Vs. Undertaker went last.
@Kannebas That's true, I do remember them making a big deal about his return. And this was the first time he actually tweeked his character. I dunno, it just seemed to me that Bret's title run at this time was always overlooked. If you recall, in the PPV's in '94 where Bret was the champ, he didn't main event any of them. That always seemed strange to me, especially considering Bret/Owen was THE fued of that year.
@Antrizzle2009 - You're right. That completely slipped my mind that Bret's matches never went last in '94 (Wrestlemania X notwithstanding). I've come to the conclusion that (as of now) Bret is the Larry Holmes of the WWE. Holmes is overlooked because he was the guy who was the Heavyweight Champion between Ali and Tyson. Bret is overlooked because he was the face of the company between Hogan and Austin.
@Kannebas That's an excellent analogy actually. Holmes didn't get appreciated until years later. The same can be said for Bret now. Cuz even when Bret was the guy back then, Shawn got more credit than he did as well.
They say everything happens for a reason. But to this day I don't see the reason why Owen Hart was taken away from us all too soon. Gone but not forgotten.. R.I.P Owen Hart.
@ElLocito2000 I think that's nostalgia talking. Cena/Orton are not as great as the Hart's imo, but they can still put on some good matches. Besides, it's all the "real" hitting in wrestling that leads to stuff like the Benoit tragedy. Just like I don't need people in movies to get shot for real, I don't need my wrestlers to get beaten down for real. That's what MMA & boxing is for. This is a show, a story, a fantasy, and that's fine with me.
Hopefully he's inducted this year along with his dad! (: Since Vince did make a promise to Bret that he was going to induct their father in the Hall of Fame this year....But, you know Vince..He's a doucher, and he never keeps promises..
Bret Hart's in the Hall of Fame so I don't see why they wouldn't induct Owen. With all due respect to Owen, Bret had a better career but look at how he left the company. Owen was a great wrestler/entertainer/family man/and person in general plus he died while entertaining the fans. I mean they inducted Koko B Ware so Owen should be inducted easily
Because I read that Helen and Stu didn't want Owen to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the company that killed him. I'm sure we all miss and still love Owen Hart
great cage match the escape had me laughing hard with owen getting caught by the cage and just dangling and the whole family trying to get in the cage was funny.
IF you watch Bret's DVD, Bret said considering how Owen's career ended, him suplexing Owen off the top of the cage while protecting his neck and head on the way down, was something he was very proud of.
Davey Boy stole Tazz's hair. The bump he and his wife take was pretty obvious when you slow it down because he's pushing her over the rail before Anvil even touches him.
that suplex from the top of the cage was epic, brother against brother. RIP Owen!!!!
