  • he is the best and always will be. soul , jazz, blues, rock, he could sing it all. Oh i wish he knew how much people loved and missed him. I so wish he had known how many people love him. It seems like people remember after someone gone. He was owed our appreciation when he was here, but he has left us with alll this. There is not one song he sings i dont love. I dont know another artist like that! johnnie@2

  • Just cheap film. I wasn't intended to last this long.

  • At 1:42 his hands turn into giant mickey mouse gloves- what is up with that?

  • @pillroller88 Looks like video distortion to me.

  • @pillroller88 In 1959, this was called a kinescope recording (a movie camera was aimed at a TV monitor and filmed the picture on the screen). Copies were made of copies, and the distortion mentioned in another post was the result.

  • The truly great ones make it impossible for anyone to forget them - Johnny Maestro is impossible to forget. One of the great voices of our lifetime! Sing in Heaven my man.

  • Happy birthday Johnny. ( Johnny Maestro's Birthday (May 7). Wish you were still

here, it will be an empty summer without going to see you sing here on LOng Island. It won't be the same. Rest In Peace. Hank7

  • I haven't felt this bad of the passing of a Celebrity since Frank Sinatra, And Elvis, But, Johnny Maestro was extra special to me, I grew up in the same neighborhood where he and The Crests Started. I still have all of his original Vinyl recordings. Saw Many times.

  • RIP Johnny. You were one of my favorites.

  • Johnny Maestro died of cancer on March 24 in Florida. He was 70. RIP and thanks for everything.

Alex Chilton from the Box Tops went upstairs last week ... Does anybody know why the Chorus Angelorum needs all these reinforcements right NOW?!

  • @Oerdoeg Yes. It's Easter and god needed someone really, really good to sing the Ave Maria...and that would be John

  • #28 on the charts in 1959, this is one of my favorites. It really takes me back to my memories of teenage crushes in the late 1950s. The Crests were awesome.

  • When I first heard this song I thought this was a black singer singing this song.Man this cat got a soulful voice.

  • Are you saying whites have no soul?

  • Where did " soul "come from ?

  • Unbelievably this is the first time I've heard this track and it's a cracker but I can't decide what the title is but I know that someone will tell me....brilliant!!!

  • My goodness! To be as young and free and joyful as I was when I was riding around with the top down listining to this. What a life! Thank you for posting it....Jude

  • Hi, yes you can get Doo wop on Karaoke. I sing and love it a lot. Music Maistro (i thing they are called) produce a Doo Wop Collection. Have Fun... Elvis England

  • Thanks I'll go to that site and see what's available, or I saw a couple sites where it says I can make my own from my own music library. I'll see what happens.

  • This music just takes me back to an easier life and enjoyment. You could actually understand the words and melody. The song was not cluttered with other stuff. Does anyone know if I can find this on karaoke cd? Thanks so much for posting.

  • great song

  • the greatest doowopper ever the voice of an angel absolutely love oh what a surprise its my fav of theirs but all that he sings is magic long live johnny boy

  • whats the song called?

  • Six Nights a Week

  • Singers in suits and ties

    ** sigh **

  • To this day, one of the best voices in music ever!!!

  • I agree, love his music and most if not all the Doo Wop stuff. I grew up late 50's- early 60's in Nfld. where I still live beneath the stars on a rugged coastline.

  • Oh yeah, 16 Candles, The Angels Listened In, Trouble in Paradise, My Juanita... but when I have my choice of hearing the Crests THIS is the song I go for every time.

  • Remember when we were only allowed out on Saturdays and then in by 11pm and the guy that took you out actually walked you to the door I wouldnt give those days up for nothing

  • this music got us passed the 50s & into 21 century & we still hold the 1 we love when we dance. lets get it back on radio...

  • This man belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame....What are they waiting for? They should let us vote. There are many Angels out there that would get this Johnny an award he deserves.

  • I think he was inducted with Brooklyn Bridge

  • Absolutely! Johnny had numerous hits with The Crests and had a successful career with The Brooklyn Bridge. Not only does this qualify him for the Hall Of Fame, but no one else had a better voice. When you look at who is in the Hall, you have to wonder who the hell is voting. STAYCOTT

  • his name is johnny Mastrangelo or shortened to maestro not stan ..

  • The son is called six night a week with Stan Meistro and the Crests

holding your best girl close and tight,

oh "what a wonderful time in life", ahh,the memory's

  • just one of the greatest voices in doowop n rock n roll and johnnys still got that incredible voice and still mesmerising audiencesc

  • A great song of teenage love & longing. It's still one of my favorites. Johnny Maestro, J.T. Carter, Hal Torres & Tommy Gough had such a wonderful blending of voices. The Crests were great!

  • never heard of this song but i love it

  • What is there to say. When johnny sings it makes great A music, love it, thanks for sharing! johnnie

  • Pure gold!

  • Ahhhh. . .Johnny Maestro. That fantastic voice has NEVER changed. My boss had never heard of him (poor thing) as he was booked at a country club. I had to explain the history and told my boss that he would remember that voice. Well he loved it -- as well he should have.

  • Oh no, had never heard of Maestro? Wow makes you wonder how many other great artists he still hasn't heard.

  • ty for educating him for the rest of us.:)

  • The Great Johnny maestro What a sound thank you! He was out here on the Weast Coast at the Dixon-May Fair in the 90's what a voice he did this song along with Sixteen Candels.

  • superb, thanks for posting.

  • Fabuoous!!

    Thanks,

    I love this.

  • I had the pleasure to listen to the Great Johnny Maestro last year in an Oldies Show at Proctors Theatre, Schenectady, NY. He still has that powerful, wonderful, voice!

Johnny and his fellow Brooklynite, Dion, will both turn 69 yrs old this year and "they still got it"!

Give yourself a treat and listen to Johnny and The Crests 's version of "My Prayer"!

  • If you are refering to dion DiMucci, he was from the Bronx, not Brooklyn. He got the group name "Belmonts" from Belmont ave in the Bronx somewhere

  • Thanks, LathamJoe. I used to live in the Albany area and went to Proctor's several times, but never got to see JM.

  • Six Nights a Week is one of my favorites. I've been looking for it and finally found it and with a video of Johnny Maestro when he was young ! Wow ! It makes me feel 14 again, back in 1959. Jack, if you are out there, I never forgot you. I saw Johnny & the Brooklyn Bridge just a few years ago. He sounded great.

  • Nice song. Youtube search DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL, de Manuel Vargas and you will see an honoring to music of these years

  • There has GOT to ba a way to digitally remaster this clip

  • this was a classic band

  • Johnny Maestro And the crest's were one of the most sucessful groups from the classical age of doowop 1955 -60 song's as 16 candles . 1959 .life the crest's went on with a string of modest hit's from 60 -64 . Johnny left the group and went solo in 60 with Model girl in 1960 . The crests last charted in 64 with a modest hit U blew out the candles . A fitting song to end with when beatle mania arived on the sene in 64 ,

  • later on johnny maestro came back with the BROOKLYN BRIDGE AND HAD A MILLION SELLER TOP TEN WITH "THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPENED TO YOU"

  • Too bad the TV quality was so bad in those days. The Crests were a very nice looking group.

  • great blast from the past - great sock hop music memories - thank you for the upload - great rock and roll will never die -

  • ok i heard a song a long time ago its about an accident with a train and the boy dies. its hella old like this one but i cant think of how it goes. does any one know

  • The song(s) you were trying to recall were; 'Tell Laura I Love Her' by Ray Peterson and, more likely, 'Teen Angel', by Mark Dinning. The latter entails a car crash, in which the female love interest returns to the accident site to recover a lost hisgh school ring, and perishes in the process. They're both genuine tear-jerkers but good songs, of that time and genre.

  • "Teen Angel" was a #1 song in 1960, and the car was stalled on the railroad tracks. "Tell Laura I Love Her" told the story of Tommy, who died in a stock car race, trying to win the $1,000 prize to buy Laura a wedding ring. There was an answer song to this called "Tell Tommy I Miss Him", sung by Skeeter Davis & others. Google the names of these songs and find out more details & lyrics at different websites.

  • I was lucky enough to see this group along with frankie Lymon, Little Anthony & the Imperials, The Coasters, to name a few

  • This is the 1st time I've saw Johnny perform vidwise-I remember a live radio chat some 15 yrs ago with MR. NORM N.NITE on local radio from Cleveland-he was a very nice & HUMBLE fellow-& very informative on what he was doing & some background on his songs-LOVE HIM!

  • ohh yess ive been looking for this for years awesome clip awesome johnny maestro happy birthday johnny hope the days as good as the memories youve given and are still giving everyone who has the great fortune to see you live

  • This was one of the great songs by The Crests. If you get the opportunity to see The Brooklyn Bridge perform, you'll hear what has to be one of the most thrilling groups out there. Johnny Maestro has not lost that wonderful and magnificent voice and sounds exactly as he did in this performance. The Brooklyn Bridge does many of the favorites you'll find on the internet. Thanks anneesvinyl for this video. rnboldies

  • Never knew this one, but keep coming back to watch it. Just love Johnny Maestro; great voice!

  • Their big hits wrtr "16 Candles" and Step by Step".Never heard this one but like it.

  • This song reached #28 on the charts in 1959. A great song about teenage longing. I loved it, and Johnny Maestro singing lead was terrific.
