Many of Oboler's "Lights Out" episodes required the characters to be willfully ignorant in order for the story to proceed.
With this one, for example, the professor told them he created it, the dangers of it, and to blast it with artillery before it got too big. So what did they do? Call him crazy and shoot it with water. You have to totally suspend your disbelief in human nature if you want to enjoy many of the episodes.
Valse Triste is another. The only way the story progresses is because a park ranger doesn't want to do his job and wants to be ignorant towards the fate of the girls.
I have said that my wife and I have a lot of history in common, in spite of the difference in our ages. We both listened to "Lights Out", only she listened to it when it was first aired, while I listened to it on a summertime "old-time radio" program. Now our kids can listen to it online....
I have gotten this rec. on e-Bay CD's, but it is NEVER the entire show - only what you hear here (as happens with Arch Obler's other play "'The Dark").
go on ebay and search under "lights out" OTR. There are thousands of OTR shows available. Dimension X, X-Minus one, Quiet Please, Superman, Jack Benny etc. Endless hours of fun, and a great way to pass time in traffic.
I almost hate to do what's Spam but.. my web radio station, Town Park Radio, plays old radio serials.. including Oboler's "Devil and Mr. O" every night overnight. A web search for Town Park Radio will lead to it.
Damn, don't have $100.00 to replace my couch.

I can't believe this really exists. It's such a corny idea I thought Cosby made it up for his routine.
There's a huge difference in what passed for horror in those days compared to now.

@patchbunny Yeah - modern horror gave up on subtlety and mood and gave us close ups of people cutting each other or themselves up, instead.

Sound not so good, but the vid is a nice concept. "All mankind-doomed."

The Willis Cooper written ones are MUCH better. "The Dark" is on here and it is one of the best LO episodes.
