  • as any one got the of the this race in fact whole the 70's and 80's and 90's Hennessy Gold Cup please

  • went to newmarket red rum you r a legend

  • I love old clips from 70's with people on track. Everything looks lovely and simple compared to the very difficult PC world of today.

  • what a brave attempt by Red Rum,greatest national horse ever

  • Only seen this race once before - thank you so much for posting it! This is when steeplechasing was steeplechasing - I know how trite that sounds, but am I wrong?

  • Definitely his best performance away from Aintree. I actually cried when they announced the photo. And to think later that season, he won both the Grand National and the Scottish National within two weeks of each other, carrying top weight on both occasions.

  • I don't agree with racing horses. My friends horse is an ex racehorse and he was treated really badly when he raced so i think its a bad idea. Horses don't enjoy racing, cos they just get thrashed around and drugged so they win. Red Rum really didn't deserve to race, he could have enjoyed doing something fun like eventing or showjumping. There is soooo many bad things i could say about racing, but i cant be bothered to type it all xD lol i think racing should be banned!

  • @ConnemaraPonyLover27 I trained to be a jockey...horse do, on the whole enjoy racing. Some of course don't. For example, I used to ride a horse called Preben Fur...now he ran in the Grand National, and really enjoyed racing and jumping, despite the fact that he was very slow...could jump well though. I also, in the same yard rode a horse called Tadbir....He was totally the opposite, he refused over fences, refused over hurdles, then we put him on the flat, and at Beverley racecourse

  • @ConnemaraPonyLover27 and then he refused to leave the starting stalls...he was then retired as a hack. Thefriendlybarber, an ex point to pointer, who loved racing, was transfered to showjumping, where he fell broke both knees and was destroyed. you can't make sweeping comments such as it should be banned, some horses like it, some don't....hope al that is clear :)

  • @ConnemaraPonyLover27 What a load of tripe! Horses run together in the wild in herds.

  • @TheNeil62 They run in the wild because they want to, or they have too to flee from danger, but in racing they are forced to run which i think is cruel.

  • @ConnemaraPonyLover27 Each race meeting is attended by someone from the RSPCA. If horses were treated as badly as you think, they would have something to say. Red Rum himself lived to 30 but had pedal osteitis which was cured by galloping into the sea at southporth. However if horse racing offends you why download and watch a clip about horseracing that's 38 years old?

  • Unbelievably, the Red Rum/Crisp rematch two weeks before this at Doncaster (which Crisp won) wasn't shown live, although four other races on the same card were - they threw it away at 1pm *before* the ITV Seven. Now TV has so much power, it's unbelievable that such things happened.

  • great performance in a presumably competitive renewal!! was he carrying top weight does anyone know?

  • I was wondering does anyone have any footage of the 1996 hennessy gold cup in england? my grandad bred the winner coome hill and he would love to see it again.

  • I do have the 1996 Hennessy full race

  • I was wondering could you put it on youtube if you can?I would really appreciate it

  • Who actually won the 1973 Hennessy Gold Cup? This is a race I used to watch when it was shown on BBC Grandstand. It is reminiscent to that of the recent Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday 21st November between Imperial Commander and eventual winner and Cheltenham Gold Cup hero, Kauto Star.

  • Red Candle beat Red Rum

  • @bluemanc43 ...thanks for uploading....been looking for this race for a while....guess red rum was conceding plenty of weight.....brave run as usual.....did this horse ever run a bad race.....................

  • @chatham43 '74 Scottish National.
