Hey - I have the exact same boat which I am currently working on in the Bahamas. Is this your boat or someone you know? I was wandering if I could get in touch with the owner to get some information and advice. Any chance you could help me...?
Driving old glass boats hard is dangerous. They get even more brittle with age.A new fiberglass 60 foot sportfisherman cracked like an eggshell off here while heading south this summer.Captain said he was on bridge cruising and was swimming 5 seconds later. He was lucky there was no one in cabin.Epirb went off and another boat picked him up.Divers went down and said it appears to have broke its back. There is fiberglass all over bottom. That was a new boat.
That is a genuine Cigarette. The model is called The "Cigarette 28 Standard" It was made from about 1970 until the mid 80's. It also came in a closed deck model called the 28SS (Super Sleek) I know because have a 1974 model (Standard). Mine's got a pair of GM292 inline 6's in it and Alpha 1 counter rotation drives installed ten years ago. Those outboards would leave mine in the dust but make the ride a bit bouncy in the rough, I would guess. Nice Boat!
A 28' Cigarette? No. It looks too new, maybe it's an outboard boat with Cig Decals; yeah... I know... Thats against the law, putting decals of a world renowned boat company, like Cigarette, and putting it on an outboard boat, thats not a cig. If I am wrong, tell me, well, prove it.
Boat. It has the original Serial # Plate with that inscribed on it. I understand their are a lot of copycats, but this is original hull. This boat had twin 6 cyl mercruiser's with outdrives and dual console. This boat also had a 4" Scuttle plug in the bottom.(In case of being caught with stuff onboard) The original length by cigarette was 27'10". Original speed was about 40MPH, Now it is around 60MPH!
