Is there a single video in existence in which Daniel Hannan praises an EU achievement. He never has a single positive word to say about the EU. No recognition, whatsoever, on his part that the EU played a crucial role in securing gender equality throughout much of the Single European Market. Is he so juandiced against the EU that he is incapable of seeing that it also has a highly positive side to its activities. And what about the Open Skies policy emanating from the EU and low price air fares?
@1957Rotu The highly positive parts of the EU were what was originally decided on in a referendum in the 70s, free trade, a single market. Since then the EU has changed into a bureaucratic, sinister mess which has far too much power, British laws should be decided by British people, accountable to the British electorate.
For once I rather agree with him, particulalry about third world getting surpluses dumped and being denied access to markets, if they where allowed acces to markets it would hopefully help them sort themselves out and reduce the aid needed from the devloped world.
Of course while the world leaders in protectionism (the USA) continue to prop up their farmers with tens of billions dollars, nothing major will change.
Amendment? We've got a Kenyan in the office now. I know the requirements, I was just lamenting the lack of true statesmen in the U.S.. I suppose that is a problem everywhere these days. Where you from? I notice you spelled favor as the older favour....a spelling style one finds in the King James English (bible).
I'm from Oklahoma. I just like British spellings. I think it's best to keep all English writing the same. If different countries start spelling things differently, it can break down into mutually-incomprehensible dialects fairly quickly. I haven't been convinced by the evidence I've heard of Obama being Kenyan by birth. Besides, his mother was a US citizen, and by current law that made him a citizen at birth, which is all the Constitution requires. It doesn't even mention location of birth.
I agree with you about spellings and dialects. Obama's mother was a minor at the time of his birth...which means according to the law back then, she could not legally transfer citizenship. So a claim to citizenship on that basis is ruled out.
This many views, comments, ratings, and faves for a video about milk quotas. I've also got to wonder how many of the people that saw this video are, like myself, Americans and almost entirely unaffected by this issue.
Britain, you have a great leader in this man. I really wish there was an American politician like him.
Well, with Barry, Nancy and friends you'll probably be facing these problems soon.
Just make sure to make sweeping changes in 2010 and get a good Republican candidate for 2012. My recommendation? It's very early days, but Gary Johnson looks promising...
This reminds me of something I learned in history class... During the Great Depression, farmers would DESTROY their crops because they had too much of a surplus and they wanted the prices of their goods to stay high meanwhile.. millions of people were starving...
Not quite. The government directed farmers to destroy their crops and compensated them to increase the prices as people starved. The insane logic was that farmers were going out of business because prices were too low and that destroying volume could somehow fix that. The starving people were I suppose collateral damage to the government wonks.
FDR like Woodrow Wilson were big govt progressives. They wanted people to depend on govt for their needs instead of self reliance.Price fixing was a big thing during FDR's reign as leader.Any biz that was not a part of the union or govt co-op were hit with extra fees and not given a shot at govt contracts.FORD was punished and GM rewarded even though Fords bids were less.reflections of today. Also certain tire co's heads were jailed because of undercutting union co's prices thru the NRA act.
Again very fine words Mr. Hannan, I agree whole heartedly. However, what about Pactio Olisipiensis censenda est? What are you doing in the line of petitioning Cameron?
Couple your problems with a trade war with the U.S. followed by a naval blockade and you bloody cocksuckers will be eating your own shoe leather.
Beware CIA agents dressed as followers of the child molester mohamed setting off nukes in your foul cities. You Jew haters have been thrown down in every generation.
Yes, because an entire nation deserves to be wiped out because one silly misguided politician who has since stepped down from her post banned an American radio host from entering the country.
Away with you and your pathetic genocidal Nazi-esque tirades.
Only one clapping at the end was likely the camera man. All the politicians vote with cell phones from their huge ocean cruisers - don't read bills, don't debate - just do what they are told, and get paid well for doing so.
BTW, congratulate Mr. Hannan for his wonderful work, doesn't matter the interests that keep the majority of the politicians quiet or any political alignment.

I understand that some of them are political leaders and they have duties somewhere else, but come on! They don't even care, as they already showed us how much they care about people's opinion. Such a shameful scene.
This man is certainly present in more than one sence of that word.

Gender equality should be a local prerogative, not a Brussels one. Whether an aircraft flies over my district should be a local prerogative.

@1957Rotu ; Because overall the EU is a disaster. Where has the UK beneffited from EU membership?
I voted as a teenager for Common Market Membership! Why ? Because we were told no membership no trade....
Is China in the EU? NO so why is the majority of trade with China in the EU?
Absolute disgraceful
A vote on EU membership now ! That will never happen , Votes are only for democracies and the EU is a National Socialist Elite

I have found most of his speeches to be like this.

I'm pretty sure the EU are the world leaders in protectionism, at least for agriculture, but the USA is bad enough.

Lol, quite amazing, isn't it? He's actually quite popular in America apparently.
As an American like yourself, I also quite enjoy listening to what he has to say, even when it has nothing to do with my own country.
If you haven't already, you should go to his blog at the Telegraph. He has many more interesting things to say there. =]

If youre interested google Economics in One Lesson pdf, or buy the book from Mises(dot)org
Chapters 11 Whos "Protected" by Tariffs, 16 "Stabalising" Commodities, 17 Government Price Fixing
And please pass on if you like the book and what you read. Its an awesome easy to understand book so its worth it.
