  • thanks for your reply, but I don't have access to a acetylene torch. would it be possible to drill the bolt out? thanks again

  • @MrBikercat yes you could do that

  • Hello, I've got part of the shear bolt stuck in the auger. used penetrating oil and mapp gas heat several times and tried pounding it out with a punch, won't budge. what are my other options? thanks

  • @MrBikercat has to be heated red hot, maybe try acetylene

  • Thanks! Very helpful!

  • Gonna try some penetrating oil lubrication first if that doesn't work I will try and heat it up. Is it possible the holes are not lined up? there is some play when moving the auger but not much. How can I tell if the holes are lined up to punch it through> Thanks

  • My sheer bolt is stuck. I have tried a punch but to no avail. I will try and soak it in WD40 tonight, but not sure why it won't come free. The bolt is rusty and both sides have broken so its all inside of the auger. Any tips?

  • @jscram63 i usually heat them red hot with Mapp gas and then punch them out

  • lol i didnt knew that, i just used regular bolts.

  • @perkerfrans could be expensive in the long run with regular bolts

  • Thanks you saved me a huge anxiety attack. My auger stopped turning in a big snowstorm. It was the shear bolt, sure enough. Easy fix. Thanks!

  • I have an old Noma 4 hp / 21" snow thrower which was given to me without a manual. When I removed the shear bolts to check their size, I found the spacers had cracked and fallen apart. It looks like the spacer is made of material that is meant to crumble under pressure. I believe the bolt has to be tightened enough to keep the spacer in its intended hole on the auger shaft but not tight enough to crack the spacer. Or should the bolt be torqued as stated by some how-to's sites? Which is correct?

  • Very informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in a noncondensending way. You have a gift for teaching. You don 't make me feel stupid.

  • @snaponjohn100 thanks, i make these vids with the novice in mind

  • @donyboy73 you'd be surprised how many pro's have no idea of what they're working with (I'm one of them)....

  • thanks a lot for your explanations and guidelines for repairing - now i know i probably do nto have a problem with the bolts - though it is a belt i guess. i will take a look at it soon as we just had over 1 foot snow in the last 2 days...i got a used snapper snow blower

  • thanks much man!

  • Great Vids, much appreciated.

  • Very helpful video!

  • Just have to say thanks alot. This video very helpful. I just replaced a shear pin in my ariens 824. Made for a easy fix.

  • I like your video..I like the way you explain things in detail..thanks for posting and sharing info.

  • thanks, more videos coming

  • Thanks for posting..but how does it break?..I know it hit something like how? please explain more..

    thanks.

  • let say you're snowblowing and you unknowingly hit a rock in your driveway, the shear bolt will break before breaking something else like the gearbox. it's a sacrificial part meant to break before something more expensive.then you simply put a new shearbolt in.

  • @donyboy73 wat do u do when it gets stuck in the hole for the shear pin? just use a punch to get it out?

  • @christhetromboneguy yes use a roll punch to get it out if it's jammed

  • second best video on snow bowers! Cheers
