I'm not from Flint, I live in what we call the eastside of Chicago. Drive from my house off 83rd down to the Bishop Ford and go all the way across the border to Indiana and you're in Gary. Gary at one time had the highest murder rate in the country due to the lack of police. I just saw a video that said Flint only has 6 police cars patroling the city at a time. If this is true than that would contribute it having the highest murder rate in the US similar to Gary in the 90's.

In states that you can carry a gun there is less person to person crimes and less home invations in pro gun states, that does not mean that there is no crime in those states, they still have home break ins and stuff stolen and other crimes.

I think concealed carry is better. If we had a large number of people carrying concealed the robbers wouldn't know who's armed and also, more importantly, they wouldn't know which bystanders were armed.

I have live amongst the poor, and I know for a fact that if a person is raised within a crazy environment with no proper guidance, their behaviors will most likely reflect their environment. am also a criminal Justice major. i did a few internships at police department, and poverty,poor family structure, and a weak education is what causes people of all races to be criminals.
Police can't prevent crime. You are your first defense against crime, and police usually get there after the crime has been committed.. If you have the means to defend yourself a criminal won't take you on.

The big reason for this is a large underclass in all American cities and an increasing gap between the haves and have nots. Living in Australia I have noticed people are not as afraid of one another as they are in a larger US city, although it is slowly becoming a bit more like the US.

Homicides are generally crimes of passion so I doubt an increased police presence would have any effect on homicide rates (though that should decrease property crime rates). If unemployment dropped in Flint that could explain an increase in homicide rates. It seems counterintuitive, but if you work more then you come into more contact with people which increases the probability of a crime of passion.

That looks like the neighborhood where My Uncle used to live. That's the park with the hill behind it that has a little creek seperating it from the neighborhood. Cool. I used to visit there all the time during the 80's & 90's. It was a safe place when the Automobile plants were there. After they left, everything just went down hill.

I was born in flint, and I lived in flint for a part of my life but even though I have moved I still ccome and stay for awhile...I reside over on Ruth st and I feel like how can the city raise the taxes, seeing how most of the people in flint are not employed. I mean the concept is good but really is tat going to relieve crime seeing how most people in thecity are un-employed. Think about some of the future(s) oft those who do rob, like teens and adults in their 20's...Open carry tempt people.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the homicide rate might be higher for 2011 than 2010 already, and we're only 6 months in the year. I wish Flint wasn't so high on the list, sometimes when people ask where I'm from and I tell them, they stereotype me and it's getting really annoying!! My own family's afraid to come visit us because they're scared of Flint!!

I'm not from Flint, I live in what we call the eastside of Chicago. Drive from my house off 83rd down to the Bishop Ford and go all the way across the border to Indiana and you're in Gary. Gary at one time had the highest murder rate in the country due to the lack of police. I just saw a video that said Flint only has 6 police cars patroling the city at a time. If this is true than that would contribute it having the highest murder rate in the US similar to Gary in the 90's.

In states that you can carry a gun there is less person to person crimes and less home invations in pro gun states, that does not mean that there is no crime in those states, they still have home break ins and stuff stolen and other crimes.
It just means that they are not to quick at confronting some one that may shoot back or shoot them trying to commit these type of crimes is all....

The lack of jobs and a crappy education is the problem in that entire state. I have live amongst the poor, and I know for a fact that if a person is raised within a crazy environment with no proper guidance, their behaviors will most likely reflect their environment. am also a criminal Justice major. i did a few internships at police department, and poverty,poor family structure, and a weak education is what causes people of all races to be criminals.

The most dangerous city in America is a moot term, large American cities in general are dangerous and have high crime. The big reason for this is a large underclass in all American cities and an increasing gap between the haves and have nots. Living in Australia I have noticed people are not as afraid of one another as they are in a larger US city, although it is slowly becoming a bit more like the US.

Even good people will do some shady things to survive. Just because you decide to cut funding to this program or that doesn't mean those people disappear, it just means that they have to find other ways to survive. On the other hand, if those people were spending entitlements, the economy would start moving again. I think the lack of welfare today is the direct cause of both the crime and depression we are going through, and its sad to think that people have to arm themselves from the poor.

They need to lower taxes and reduce public servant pay/benifits. If you work for the public your wages should not be higher then the minumum wage. Public officials and workers should use public health services such as medicare. Unemployment and reduced benifits cause stress. When people have their backs to the wall they do things... If taxes/spending were lower it would encorage people/buisness to move into the city.

I think that Police departments should become more proactive rather than reactive. I know the argument they need the revinue from tickets, and that giving citations is them inforcing the laws, but with less of a force, I believe a proactive force would better serveand protect the public. Instead of a speed trap...reactive. park one of those empty cruisers out on a street corner with its lights on.....proactive. Stop them from speeding rather than trying to catch them speeding. Homicides are generally crimes of passion so I doubt an increased police presence would have any effect on homicide rates (though that should decrease property crime rates). If unemployment dropped in Flint that could explain an increase in homicide rates. It seems counterintuitive, but if you work more then you come into more contact with people which increases the probability of a crime of passion.

Its easy to rob someone with open carry. Walk up to them and pull a gun out. What are they going to do? Shoot you with an UNLOADED weapon? What if your in a gas station and its getting robbed and you walk in with your unloaded gun. The gunman will see you with your gun and shoot and kill you. Or if he doesn't see you as your loading your weapon with ammo he shoots at you before you can pull your gun up.
Either carry loaded concealed or dont carry at all.

According to Morgan Quitno, Hartford County, Connecticut is the 4th most dangerous city (with a population 100,000 TO 499,999). The U.S. Census states that 80.5% of the town is white. So clearly race is not the universal variable.

That is, the chance of just any person you see on the street murdering someone this year is about 5 of 100,000 (assuming you see a random sample of people). The same chance of a white person is 3.5 of 100,000. And the same chance for a black person is 19.7 of 100,000. That means a black person is 5.6 times more likely than a white person to be a murderer

Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed a law requiring heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition. Kennesaw Historical Society president Robert Jones said following the law's passage, the crime rate dropped 89 percent in the city, compared to the modest 10 percent drop statewide. You want crime to drop... make it a law that every head of household must own a gun. Provide free training (which would be cheaper than employing police) and watch crime rates plunge!

Would be interesting to know what sort of people are murdering/getting murdered. Perhaps as the economy contracts the underworld is feeling the pinch too, heightening competition among "interested parties" - including those newly driven to crime by having no alternative. Increasing the number of police would not affect the numbers if this is the main driver of homicide.

Any idiot that decides to approach one with a visible sidearm in an attempt to rob them deserves to get shot. I think, as it has shown in other states, it would lead to a decrease in violent crime. Many criminals prey on the vulnerable and are opportunistic, looking for said weakness. Increasing taxes on an overburdened community will just lead to more poverty and crime. We are 14 trillion in the red already, were taxed to death without representation. This is a complete contradiction to liberty
