Gotta admit this guy cuts it close at some points, but this is legit. I remember using some of the same tactics, but I had to call in the rocket launcher on some stages and I lost some lives.
i am god. i beat this on hardest too but the difference is that i selected yes when i was given a choice from Mr.X. i still never got hit and beat the game with the highest SOR score in history. 1.234.964 the speedrun was good and bravo for @XeroShinobi
@azrial4421 You must not play Streets of Rage a lot. Tosses can be landed safely by pressing up and jump as one lands. I do it around a dozen times in the run.
By single segment you mean it was plaid from start to end with no breaks, right?
Ultimate challenge for you: same thing, but starting with 2 players and kill one of them ;P It would definitely be more interesting (even harder if you move all the way on each scene before fighting incoming punks)
@gsaurus4 Yes, single segment means it was played from start to finish with no intermission.
As far as a 1p Hardest run on 2p mode goes, I can't see it happening. Not under the same parameters as this run, anyway. If I were to do it, I'd probably take advantage of specials. On 2p mode, the bosses from stage 2 and onwards become incredibly difficult to take down without getting hit or using specials.
@XeroShinobi I don't think bosses are that of a problem. You already took 2 clawmen on lvl7 1p. For 2 Abadedes you can use repetitive moves, for 2 bongos grab and beat one at a time, you can avoid the one that comes firing by vaulting over the one you're grabbing (invincible frames). And that's all.
I confess I couldn't do it myself (unless willing to practice dozens or hundreds of times) But I believe you can do it after a few more practice. Maybe allowing to be hit, but plz no specials ;-)
@gsaurus4 The dual bosses on 2p also typically have goons to aid them. Things get really hectic and avoiding damage becomes extremely difficult. Again, I could do it, but I'd either have to use specials or take damage. One or the other. Trying to complete such a run under the same parameters as this one would be very trying.
Honestly, if I do end up doing another run, it will likely be similar to this one but faster.
@XeroShinobi Yeah the problem isn't bosses, but those goons, you're right :P
I really would like to see a speedrun in 2p mode, 1p. It's fair to allow damaging. About specials, well, I see them as just escapes for hard situations..
I am actually thinking of trying to do a 2P mode with 1 player playthrough of this game and I'm actually going to try to beat it without using special or getting hit. I have beaten it before without special but I got hit (and died) a lot so it may be a while before I do such a thing.
And wow, only 30 play-throughs? I must have done a 'hardest' run 100+ times and I'm nowhere as skilled as you! I do, however, generally do it for fun. I'm strange, yes.
This is very impressive! I have this strange obsession with SoR where I keep playing through it on 'hardest' mode though unfortunately the best I can do is go without dying/specials--I still take damage. I play SoR on the Virtual Console however so I can't, say, practice fighting the final boss or anything which an emulator would allow me to do... but not to take away from your amazing achievement (indeed I don't know if you even used your emulator for this advantage: maybe you didn't!)
@GREGGORVICH12 I just recorded a lot of playthroughs for about 5 days until I did one without damage. It's not the first time I've done it. Including attempts that were screwed up really early, it probably took at least 30 tries.
Excellent run Xeno. I always play on hardest when playing SoR, but i play in 2 player mode and let the other be killed off, it ups the difficulty a bit more, but i could never do it without damage. but try it yourself, having two bosses and the enemy number set to two players and go through the game, its nuts
I would have gone back to Stage 6, and would have had to fight my way back up to him. The bad ending cannot be obtained with 1 player. It requires 2 players to choose opposite answers, with the one choosing "Yes" winning the resulting duel and beating Mr. X for his position.
@XeroShinobi I said yes once when it was my first time ever getting to boss because me and my sister played this game so much we never got past the last level to boss. and i was so annoyed. But yeah omg you didn't get it ONCE!
I do plan on doing speed runs of those games at some point in time, but not no damage, not for 2 anyways. SoR2 is not plausible to do without damage on Mania, outside of tool-assistance. My goal for such a run would be no death using Max. I may make an Axel run as well.
SoR3 on the other hand is plausible to do without damage, I just don't play it enough. It's still harder than 1, and I'd need a lot of practice. I'd be using specials, so in that way it still wouldn't be the same as this run.
As far as no damage is concerned, there isn't much difference between the US SoR3 and the Japanese BK3. The increased damage dealt by enemies is irrelevant, as I wouldn't be getting hit anyways. Some of the enemies have considerably more health in SoR3, which would make that version slighter harder, but still very doable.
SoR3 is similar in to SoR1 in that regard. The enemies do a lot of damage, but they don't attack nearly as often or as aggressively as in SoR2.
If I were to record an attempt at a no damage, Hard SoR3 run right now, I would get my ass thoroughly handed to me. I might finish the first two levels without getting hit, but after that I'd likely be taking hits on every level. No death would be tricky for me at this point.
Streets of Rage 3 is harder than 1, no question. All I'm saying is that no damage is humanly possible, while in SoR2 I have my doubts. There are way too many situations that arise in 2 that require single-frame precision.
Gotta admit this guy cuts it close at some points, but this is legit. I remember using some of the same tactics, but I had to call in the rocket launcher on some stages and I lost some lives.

@VenusHeadTrap2 Not as close as you think. The Mr. X fight was a lot more nerve-wracking. And yes, this run is entirely legit.

Nice run man.
Just to add more speed to your run, you can counter the flying kick from the 2 bitches with the reverse attack too.
Thitavares 1 year ago
@Thitavares Throws do a lot more damage than the back attack. The jump kick attack the twins do grants a good opportunity to grab them.

Yeah I getcha on the SOR2 thing, that game is insane on Mania.
And I didn't really like SOR3 that much.
For some reason it felt like the hit detection was off for alot of the enemies.
It felt like that for me with the original SOR.
I can't wait to see the rest of your runs.
You've got a fan in me.lol

Damn, you really think it's possible (no damage) on SoR3 ?!?!?!
Maybe the Japanese version, but the American one is nuts!!!!! (still love the game though...)
Oh yeah, GREAT speed run dude. 5*****

Alright, I'll take your word for it, but on paper, it's an INSANE challenge my friend...
Don't know how you can go through the beginning of Stage 5 (SoR3) and not get hit...But then again, your skills are on another level than me, LOL.

Oh, and of course SoR3 lets the player do specials without taking damage every few seconds, granting huge invincibility periods.
