  • SpongebobLover this meteor shower happens every year.....

The comet that creates the dust in space only comes around once about every 130 years.

But we pass through this debris every year at this time.

Look up Meteor showers 1009 on google .. there are going to be about 3 more major meteor showers this year.

  • it wasss wayy to cloudyy!!!!

:( when is the nextt one,,

    mabyee ill have beter luck,

  • RELAX this meteor shower lasts about 2 weeks. You will still see meteors tonight and for about the next 5 nights. Each night will be less and less but there will be more than just an average night for sure.

no luck for me this time :(

  • I trust NASA to deliver accurate information about as much as I trust BAYER to keep me healthy.

I'll listen to reports from a space research program when that program ISN'T funded and controlled by the United States government.

  • The main night was August 12, but August 13 was just about as good. You'll see some meteors from this shower every night for a week or more on either side of these dates. Plus there are other minor meteor showers.Keep an eye out, Jane (saw only 1 in LA, but it was a very bright one)

  • I saw some last night! Why couldn't it be a meteor storm, that would have been a show.

Too bad we won't be able to see the Leonid Shower in November, predicted 500 shooting stars an hour, mostly visible to Asia.

Our solar system doesn't seem so deadly anymore.

Can anyone tell me when Earth will be in the danger zone again, w/ possible collision courses w/ asteroids and the passing of thick comet trail debris.

  • Keep your eyes towards North East away from city lights, its gonna be Awesome.

  • we saw a few shooting stars and a meteor!!! it was awesome!

  • No specific time zone, just best to watch after midnight on your own local time. :-)

  • I read between 9 amd 11pm tonight since the moon is too bright once it rises. Is this right? Also I live in Houston TX. Do I expect to see any tonight?

  • aw, that sucks :(

  • Last night I saw the meteor showers from my front yard and bedroom window; just amazing. :)

But it was also difficult due to some lights in the street and passing cars. Next time I'm gonna have to go somewhere verrry dark.

  • Go out a few miles into the country and park on some random road where you can't see a light at all. It'll be worth it.

  • Next year, there is no bright moon either. I'd get far from the city lights and really enjoy it!

  • ive been watching the perseids meteor shower for years now and their just amazing even though it causes a strain on my neck its worth it :D

  • LOL ME TOO HAHA

my neck was bad the next morning....

  • When wud this be visable in GMT central time?

  • Just after midnight where you live

  • they say midnight so do they mean 12;00 am weds (as in already passed) or do they technically mean 12:00am thursday which wud be late wenesday night?im so confused. HELP

  • they say morning hours of august 13 too. so around midnight tonight and thru 5 am

  • Yup! And you'll see some the week or two before and the week or two after the main shower. Not many, tho! I only saw one from near NASA JPL Pasadena, CA (It is very light polluted around here)

  • This year both nights are good - so Wed morning (already past) or Thursday morning. Good luck!

  • can i see it from london

  • Try to get away from the lights where wver you are. :-)

  • Yes, but better with no city lights.

  • can yu see it from nc ?

  • Yes if the weather permits. Late night around midnight until 5 am.

  • Yup

  • I didn't knew that xD

  • No, unfortunately I did not see any meteors. : ( It's roughly a 40 minute drive just to get out of city limits, too.

  • I wonder if Las Vegas is too bright to see these meteors...but I'm stolked and definitely will not miss out on this! Maybe I can see some faint ones. :D

  • Great vid; five stars!

  • Thanks! Jane

  • This is so awesome! I will be out that morning fo-sho! Hope they are visible in Houston. Usually have terrible skies, Haha. But I guess you don't need a real clear sky to see a meteor shower!

  • Clear skies definitely help, but dark skies help the most. Good luck in Houston!

  • Jane, I'm a little confused; is the best viewing Tues night/Wed morning, or Wed night-Thurs morning?

  • Both are equally good. since there will be a large third quarter moon out look away fromthe moon, or even try before moonrise (before midnight). You'll see some! Even this weekend you should see some Perseids!

  • I'll be watching. :)

  • I'm so glad I subscribed to this channel. Thanks Jane!

  • You're welcome! There are so many great videos JPL puts on YouTube. And all the JPL spacecraft are on Twitter too!

  • You're welcome! The July What's Up podcast is really nice and about the Milky Way, which is still a great thng to look at this month too! I especially like that one with many of the first sketches of the Milky Way!

  • Look away from bright moon and the darker your skies, the more meteors you will see. Good luck! You'll even see some (just a few) this weekend if you are looking towards Perseus. Jane

  • Thanks again JPL. I've never seen a meteor shower sadly. I hope I am able to see this one (been raining here for like 2 weeks) and if I really don't need a telescope that sounds awesome!

  • Hope the rain clears up in time for the Perseids. The week before and after Aug 12 will show some Perseids - now as many, but some, if you are lucky and have some clear skies! Jane
